The Everything NHL Thread

They're 7-5 in shootouts, nothing to write home about. Although I suppose they're the team that's been there the most.. by quite a long shot (2 teams tie for 2nd, with 9 games going to a shootout). I suppose what the announcers had in mind were teams that have gotten the most points through shootouts.

In comparison, the Sabres are 4-0 and the Kings 6-1. I'd say they currently stand out as the best.

We have gone back and forth on shootouts for like 3 pages of posts at the least. I wonder if we shouldn't just make a poll here to stop the flood of I (dis)like shootout posts(obviously kidding).

In other news, I know this is something Synre and I have chatted about, but Savard is officially done for this season. He has intentions of coming back, but I feel like those will be dismissed and rightly so unless he wants to end up like vegetable Eric Lindros.

well debating their merits is always a good thing.

I think you're right Vineon, or at least they were saying they have the most wins in the shootout.

Debating is good, no doubt there, but the topic is getting stale.

But yeah, Calgary is up there in SO wins, but losses too. Top S/O teams in my opinion are:

Los Angeles
New York Rangers
Tampa Bay
Buffalo
Nashville
Colorado

Though every team in the league has a solid 3 players that are deadly in shoot outs to make a run at a win if the game goes to one.

makes me wonder when someone will pick up an otherwise not great player, like theo fleury was, who can tear apart goalies in the shoot out. That could come in handy if they can play 4th line minutes.

Vanek is something stupid like 3/3 or 4/4 in shootouts this season. All does is skate in over the blue line and blast a slap shot, they're virtually unstoppable.

Calgary slithered into 8th with that win last night. Pretty crazy West this year. Sabres are 5 points out of 8th and have 5 GIH on both the Rangers and Thrashers, both of whom are in full backslide.

There are players like that. Erik Christensen comes to mind.

Wiki : Christensen has been highly valuable in shootouts his entire career. As of the end of the 09-10 season, he has scored 18 goals in 35 attempts for an impressive 51.4% success rate.

Dude never had a 20 goal season.

thanks, vineon, never heard of that guy before.

I dunno, cooke is easily the dirtiest player there is today. He basically is headhunting.

After so many suspensions and dirty plays the NHL really needs to just boot players for a season or two, and make sure the cap hit stays on the team.

or they could get off light like bertuzzi. What a joke. His career wasn't nearly as good after he did that, though.

Beauchemin to the Ducks for Joffery Lupul, Jake Gardiner, and a conditional 2013 4th round pick.

VANCOUVER vs ANAHEIM
I'd watch that series now, that'd be some kind of epic hockey played against each other.... Or we could end up with San Jose vs Anaheim...

Anaheim is gettin' ready for some kind of playoff run.

Also, how does Hockey day in America Work in terms of scheduling? does it work like NFL on Fox?

Back to the shootout i think Toronto may be perfect the rest of the way, Reimer seems to be invulnerable on the breakaway.

Another trade:

To Florida:
Jack Skille
Hugh Jessiman
David Pacan

To Chicago:
Michael Frolik
Alexander Salak

I don't know much about the players Florida acquired, but from what I know of the players they gave up it looks like they got fleeced.

Cooke suspended 4 games, excellent.

Al Montoya to Islanders for 6th round pick man they are a goalie graveyard on long island. How many goalies are they gonna go through?

FUCK tanguay is out with a concussion. How the HELL did that even happen? The flames have so little playmaking depth, looks like I may have been right to hold out on the playoff celebrations.

good luck getting a team with the current NHL commissioner.

95 penalty minutes for montreal
97 for boston

two line brawls. 6 goals in 12 minutes. 6-8 final in favor of Boston.

Who was it that said hockey would be better off without fighting?

That was an absolutely stellar game to watch!

Yah, it was pretty fun. I caught the last 15 minutes of the third, featuring 3 separate fights, a line brawl and like 5 goals haha

Also something Vin will like (although he probably already knows) Qbc is discussing building a new arena tomorrow.

Yep, 100% publicly funded. ._.

I was kind of hoping for some level of private investment (which may come later) but I'm still glad the arena's announced.

private funders will come out the ass once if team is there. Fuck bettman...I'd say bring back the nords but the Avalanche actually retain the rights to that logo and name. So yeah.

Fisher to preds for a first round in 2011 and conditional pick (2nd or 3rd round this year). I hate these conditional picks, depending on how the team does. I think Nashville overpaid and the Sens are really screwed, he was their top scorer. So much for Edmonton getting first overall!
