The Everything NHL Thread

I guess everyone else is having problems with the forum speed, no way this thread should have died.

gg Nucks on clinching the Presidents Trophy. Of course, since about November it never was really in much doubt. Also, gg Daniel on cracking 100. He'll probably be the only player in the league to do it this season, which is fucking depressing.

Also, the playoff races seem to be shaping up. Of course, unless the Rangers figure out how to score, the Canes might overtake them. All I'm hoping for is the Habs to continue their freefall to let the Sabres slip into 6th so we can take on the Bruins first round. We need some payback for last year.

You seem to think the Sabres have no chance of getting overtaken by the Canes. They play on Sunday and if the Canes win they are only behind by 1 point.

Because Dallas can still get 97, which last I checked is > 96.

Big win for Detroit today. They've been floundering pretty hard lately, and Datsyuk being out is part of it, but injuries happen and they've gotta find ways to win in spite of them and did that today. Just need to win one of the two the play against Chicago to clinch the division now, though it could happen before that depending on how things go.

Also I expect both the Sabres and the Canes to get in at the expense of the Rangers. Lundqvist got a little banged up a couple games ago and they just aren't scoring any goals lately -- they've scored a grand total of five total goals in their last five games. They have a reasonably tough final four games with the Flyers, Bruins, Thrashers, and Devils, which obviously includes two teams trying to fight for a better seed among the division winners and a rival that would love to spoil things for them. Both the Canes and the Sabres have five left while the Rangers only have four as well, unless the Rangers suddenly find some offense they'll be the ones on the outside.

ahhh, i've been so focused on Calgary i forgot about Dallas. I really wanted LA to slide out of the playoffs. It's not that they don't deserve to be there, but without Kopitar and Williams, they're just first round fodder and that wouldn't make for a good series at all.

Anyways... according to numbers and math and such, if the Wings win two more games, ChiTown can't win the conference. You almost have to count Minnesota as one of those games and with Datsyuk back the chances are great that Detroit will come out with 102 points.

I'll most likely end up 6/8 in both conferences... sadly my dislike of bad hockey markets didn't really get reflected in the actual standings.

lol how did that happen

i guess i predicted them being traded to the OHL which looked about right most of this year

EDIT POSTHUMOUSLY PREDICTED THE FLAMES FOR LIKE A JILLIONTH PLACE

How did that happen? did you repeat a team??

Fuck I WISH the flames were dead last. We could draft someone "great" and turn them into a Chucko, Niemisz, Saprykin, Kobasew, Fata, Krahn...LOL.

It kinda scares me to think what would happen if Iginla wasn't such a slow starter. He'd hit the 50 goal mark easy!

I kinda wonder how the flames managed to get like 3 games played more than the conference throughout the whole schedule. That was what killed us...well that and our start and lacklustre finish. People still think that if we run the table, chicago will lose 3 games and dallas will keep bed shitting and BOOM stanley cup.

I can say, as the closest canadian team in proximity to vancouver, that if those sons of bitches win the cup the league will NEVER hear the end of it. They are obnoxious enough as it is, worse than Edmonton fans but marginally better than toronto fans. Still, despite injuries, they are just mauling this league.

Can't help but laugh at the fact that everyone predicted Ottawa to finish no worse than 10th (except potentially Carl but he never posted anything past 8th) and similar for Colorado in the West. Also laughing that the Canadiens still managed to exceed expectations. Suck it ye of little faith.

Man I stared at that shit for AGES...one of those things where your brain fills in the numerical sequence! Oh well. :D

Personally, if I were a Hawk fan I'd love current developments - they'd still really need something strange to happen to miss the playoffs and if they end up in 8th they get Vancouver, a team they've done well against in the past. I think they'll split their last two with Detroit and end up in 8th unless Anaheim chokes.

My dreams of this occurring were tarnished somewhat by Anaheim losing to Dallas... two would-be tying goals for the Ducks waived off in the last 2 minutes of the game. It was the right call both times (Koivu accidentally tripped Lehtonen once, Perry accidentally hand passed to Ryan because he couldn't touch the puck after he dropped it due to a defender once), but that's brutal... I'd be livid if I were a Duck fan regardless.

People in Calgary are adamant that the hawks will not make the minimum 5 points to knock the flames off for good. It'd be nice, but i'm sick of being let down so I have written the flames off. That said, I'd LAVISH the chance to beat the nucks in the last game of the season to allow us to make it into post season only to face them first round in the playoffs. They would likely slaughter the flames but not before their fragile team takes an absolute bruising.

<----- officially worried about the hawks

toews got rattled post game... that says something

Leafs officially eliminated from the playoff race today. It's kind of sad that it's been the most exciting season post-lockout for the Leafs, but it was a nice month-long ride.

As one Canadian team gets eliminated, another clinches. Now at least I don't have to worry about the Canadiens falling out of the playoffs entirely, though it'd be nice to also keep the Sabres and Rangers behind us.

I can't help but find it funny that the Flyers called up Leighton now of all times, it's almost as if they're trying to replicate last year's Cinderella run despite having a top-4 seed. Whatever, they can do whatever they want as long as they stay the hell away from us. Between last year and three (?) years ago, I think it's been proven that the Flyers are the Canadiens' kryptonite in the playoffs >.>

I never believed in the Canadian teams, but I had a glimmer of hope for the Devils. Not a glimmer of sense, but damn... that seemed like it'd be such an awesome story when they were just a few points back. Now they're nearly as far back as they were at the beginning... what a weird season for them.

Posting to throw out two notes from Puck Daddy for the non-readers

Puck Daddy said:
As of Tuesday night, the Canucks still had a shot at making NHL history: Becoming the first team in the expansion era (from 1968) to lead the NHL in goals for, goals against, power play conversion and penalty killing. They lead in GAA and the power play; they trail Detroit by a goal and the Penguins by 0.8 percent on the kill.

Can I just take a moment to say how ridiculous that is? blah blah dgaf about the regular season etc. but seriously, you have to be impressed by that. Amazing performance so far this year by them.
