The Everything NHL Thread

Are you fucking serious? I don't know what annoys me before, the fact that we can't seem to hold the puck in the neutral zone or the fact that when we're only down one we go with an empty net, which pretty much means we have to be flawless to have a chance to win (which we have not been, far far from it). God this game fucking shits me off sometimes.

classic sharks choking out of the playoffs, so much for new season. Oh well, theres always next game, and then next year.

Hey if those chokers in Vancouver ended up overcoming their demons in round one why can't we?

IDK what you're even talking about, if you'd read this thread in the first round you'd be well aware that the canucks have no flaws and that every game ends with luongo being perfect.

Look at him being unstoppable.

Morm, you forgot to mention that the Green Men also contribute positively to society and enrich everyones hockey experience!

I am not surprised that the Sharks are choking. They've looked mostly anemic out there on offense and the way Niemi flails around it seems like most of his saves are on accident.

I was kind of hoping for a Sharks/Nucks WCF just so the city of Vancouver could implode on itself in a swirling vortex of choke, but it looks like we're gonna have another boring Red Wings SCF appearance.

First time Niemi has ever played in an elimination game coming up.

I say he has a good game but boyle puts it into his own net for sharks OT loss

How dare you, the canucks haven't even come close ONCE these playoffs, or ever, to choking. This is mostly thanks to consistent goaltending and scoring from their top players

Hahaha, bless their hearts. Hell, I don't even know who goes to their games. South Floridians don't give a fuck. Must suck to play for them.

Just read that Glendale is putting up another 25 million for the arena for next season, so the Yotes are staying put.

Now I await the Thrasher news in the next upcoming days.

While I agreed the Coyotes were Winnipeg's to win, I do not for the Thrashers (or any other team).

Here's hoping the Québec team is already prepared to propel themselves as an available alternative. If it isn't Phoenix, TSN and its Jets compass can suck my dick.

The arena isn't ready yet but it is going to be a lot more NHL-ready than ever could the MTS Center.

Is it even under construction yet? I thought the funds from Alberta were denied.

I was actually wondering the same thing and just looked it up.

"The $400-million project, which many Quebec City residents hope will attract an NHL franchise, will begin over the next two years, and is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2015.
Premier Jean Charest said Thursday that the province would contribute $200 million, and Quebec City Mayor Régis Labeaume said the city would provide $187 million. The rest will come from the promotion group J'ai Ma Place."

I can't see how Quebec City would get a hockey team before Manitoba.

The funds from Ottawa, you mean. Your conceited as fuck province (whose economy you don't contribute to by being unemployed) isn't the only one to send taxes to the federal. Maybe it should also be noted that Edmonton would have likely gotten the same deal and that without it, they still seem out of a new arena to replace their present relic.

That said, this new arena, short of federal money, shares funding between the provincial government, the city and a private effort by Quebecor, the group that will also purchase the team. They already bought the rights to name the arena, at a price actually higher than what is paid for the Air Canada Center.

The money is there but it's not under construction yet ; they're currently working out what exactly they will build.

I frankly don't see why it couldn't. There's an existing arena that can be used until the new one is complete, quite similarly to the MTS Center waiting to land an NHL team to start thinking about upgrades. I also think Québec works better as a market in the long run than Winnipeg does.

All I'm saying is there's no reason to miss an opportunity. Winnipeg could get their team and there might be none available after that. Let's at least make it a competition and I'm pretty sure the current Atlanta owners would enjoy how much that might improve the selling value of their team.

You mean the "Colisee Pepsi", which according to Wikipedia was opened in 1949, and has about the same capacity as the MTS Centre? That makes it older than the Mellon Arena, which was terrible as well.

I haven't heard anything about a potential buyer for Quebec, and Phoenix will not stay in Glendale forever. I don't trust Gary Bettman to make a smart decision.

And looking at the Citadelle attendance from when they were in the AHL, it was terrible. Probably because of that arena you claim is "good enough" for 3 years. I don't see how a team there would be better than a team in Winnipeg when we have an arena, and a buyer, all ready and waiting.

Yeah, the Colisée Pepsi, which unlike the MTS Center, would only be used in the meanwhile, until the new built-for-the-NHL arena is complete. Yes it is old and certainly not suitable in the long term. When the Whalers moved, they initially moved to Greensboro, where they played their first 2 to 3 seasons, until their arena in Raleigh was finally ready.

You haven't heard of a 'potential buyer' simply because you haven't been listening. The team would be owned by Quebecor, a quite large multimedia company that already is top of the food chain in Québec when it comes to regular and cable television. You probably couldn't ask for a better buyer as they have all the tools to promote the product. They certainly have everything it takes to compete with even the 'richest family in Canada'. Québec isn't any less ready there.

It isn't the Citadelle attendance you should look at, but the Rempart's, the Junior league team, which sells quite a lot more than any other Junior teams in the same league. Nobody cares about the AHL, I wouldn't buy tickets for it myself. There are also several thousands of tickets already sold for a team that doesn't even yet exists.
