Saxes REPRESENT
I played alto sax for about six years, and I wasn't anything amazing, but I was still pretty good. I'm currently in my senior year of high school, and played in the marching/concert band. We had instrumentation problems last year, so I switched over to tenor sax to make up for it.
There was a time when people were starting up a jazz band, and I joined it, but it turned out that the teacher (who is ultra biased against saxophones so he might be the reason why I can't get much better currently) thought that small combos were stupid and put on a crap big band thing with French Horns instead of Saxophones, so that didn't really work out. Other people I know are trying to start a jazz combo, and I've expressed interest, but they haven't really taken me up so eh.
Our band has had problems for some time, and we got a new band director, who has combated these problems; unfortunately he also created new problems, many of which he doesn't even seem to realize are problems. So we still have issues and they don't seem to be getting any better. I'm just glad I'm going to graduate before he infects the whole band with his bullshit.
Regardless, I love playing the sax. I'm not that great at technical passages, but I've worked hard to learn scales and chords, and am working to become an improvisation master.

I play guitar and sing and a lot of people say I'm pretty great at it and I have considered doing it as a career, but my parents really don't like me doing they say its not normal for a Black kid to want to be a Rock / Metal / Hardcore / Blues Musician. =/
