Other The OU Theorymon Project (CLOSED)

The point was to show off the sheer power.

This is definitely one of the better theorymons. I am very impressed. Just another theorymon I wish was real...

Poison Fang is such a interesting move that is really bad in competitive, it's interesting to see that this theorymon can use it to some extent. I don't know how having tough claws will make your bite stronger, but whatever.

I would say the go to set would probably end up being the agility set or the AV set. Personally, I'm most interested in the pursuit trapper with AV that Alexwolf gave, mainly because I want to use Drapion/Keldeo/Landorus/Snorlax. No idea which dance set I'd use first.

I think Choice Band and Choice Scarf are also interesting options.

First of all, Choice Band actually gives you better overall stats than Assault Vest (adding in the item AND ability boosts).

Assault Vest: Adamant 200 HP / 252 ATK / 56 Speed
HP: 331
ATK: 397
SpD: 279

Choice Band: Careful 200 HP / 252 SpDEF / 56 Speed
HP: 331
ATK: 421 (+24)
SpD: 273 (-6)

(So if you sacrifice Special Bulk for more power, you'll get even HIGHER overall stats for your EV investments)

Obviously, you're missing out on the ability to switch between attacks, but if you just want something that can come in and Pursuit shit, CB has a much more powerful Pursuit and can achieve similar Special Bulk-- it's more efficient at the role of switch in, PURSUIT. It's also more efficient in Switch-in, SPAM KNOCK OFF.

Assault Vest is better if you want a Pokemon that's less specialized, and more versatile as a wall breaker. Assault Vest is also better if you want to invest EVs into even better Special Bulk (unachievable with CB), and use Venom Fang as your main source of damage.

Of course CB can also just go 252 ATK / 252 SPE and smash shit to bits-- Outspeeding bisharp, Mamoswine, Rotom-W, Lucario, and anything else in the 80-90 range that wants to be cute and run Speed EVs.

Looking at Choice Scarf, Drapion is interesting because its 95 Speed stat is REALLY good for a Scarf role in this meta, and will allow it to go Adamant and still outspeed pretty much everything it needs to. It doesn't even need to max out on Speed and can invest some in HP. Meanwhile, it's decent physical bulk, and resistances to Sucker Punch & Shadow Sneak, and lack of weakness to ANY priority makes it a really interesting option.

Draption
@Choice Scarf
Adamant 76 HP / 252 ATK / 180 SPE (Lets you outspeed Timid Mega Manectric)
Admant 112 HP / 252 ATK / 144 SPE (Lets you outrun +1 Dragonite and Mega Gyara)
Adamant 164 HP / 252 ATK / 92 SPE (Outspeeds Timid Alakazam)
-Knock Off
-Poison Jab / Ice Fang
-Pursuit / Ice Fang
-Earthquake

This set really wants Earthquake since it is probably one of the better options to revenge kill Mega Mawile and Aegislash, it still does decent damage to Bisharp too. Brick Break is ok if you REALLY want to go after Mega Tyranitar and Gyarados, but Drapion is kinda meh in revenge killing them.

Well this discussion dried up surprisingly quickly given the versatility of Tough Claws Drapion...
We haven't talked about powerful checks and counters to Drapion much yet. Or perhaps team mates that will synergies with Drapion?

Mega Aggron is probably the best counter since even a +2 LO-boosted EQ fails to 2HKO:
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Drapion Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Filter Mega Aggron: 140-166 (40.6 - 48.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

while Aggron can 2HKO back even if Drapion runs max HP EVs:
4 Atk Mega Aggron Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Drapion: 180-212 (52.3 - 61.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

However Aggron can't directly switch on it if it hasn't mega evolved yet because an unboosted EQ will leave it in KO range:
252+ Atk Life Orb Drapion Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Aggron: 234-276 (68 - 80.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

As for team mates, Drapion's type makes it perfect to check fairy, psychic and ghost types, so fighting types immediatly come to mind. Keldeo and Terrakion can sweep rather easily once the annoying Clefable, Sylveon, Aegislash and Lati@s have been removed.

The Charizards are pretty good against Drapion as well. He needs EQ specifically for X who can really screw you over if it's the bulky Roost with WoW version, and Y's Fire Blast is too much even for Assault Vest. You'd need Thunder Fang for this one, but both should be able to handle most "standard" Drapion sets. Gyarados is obviously a problem with Intimidate and then Mold Breaker EQ. I swear, that combo is such bad news for so many things. Then of course Gliscor threatens you without Ice Fang.

Poison Jab or Fang fucks all those on the switch just fine, so you are free to use Ice Fang for Gliscor, Garchomp, Landorus-T, and Landorus on the AV set, or Aqua Tail on the SD set.

Discussion about Tough Claws Drapion is now over, thanks for the participation. This slate will include the suggestions that made it to the second place on the past 4 voting stages. Here is our slate:
  • Simple Slowking (Chesnaught)
  • Water / Fairy Milotic (Sevifar)
  • Drizzle Bronzong (Minnakht)
  • Psychic / Normal Reuniclus (Magma)
You have 24 hours to vote. Only vote for one theorymon, and the theorymon with the most votes wins. Don't forget to bold your votes, otherwise they won't count. In the case of a tie, we will vote again for the two theorymon that tied, with another day time limit. Start voting!

And here is the competitive merit behind each theorymon:

Simple Slowking: Trick Room + Nasty Plot can act as both a terrifying sweeper and wallbreaker, and physically defensive with Calm Mind and Slack Off combine utility with sweeping potential.

Water / Fairy Milotic: Not much to say here other than a single list of what Milotic checks or counters with this new typing: Mega Charizard X, Keldeo, Latios, Latias, Greninja, Dragonite, Mega Gyarados, Terrakion, Conkeldurr.

Drizzle Bronzong: Bronzong would be the perfect Pokemon to make balanced rain teams really viable again, with its useful defensive typing and good support options, such as Stealth Rock, Trick Room, and dual screens.

Psychic / Normal Reuniclus: This addition would allow Reuniclus to counter any Aegislash except from Iron Head + SD sets. Being so slow actually helps Reuniclus in this case, allowing it to hit Aegislash in its Sword Forme and OHKO it with Shadow Ball. Countering Gengar is great too. Also, with this new typing, Reuniclus might find some use for its other great but often overlooked ability, Regenerator, to act as a bulky tank that can counter Aegislash, hit hard, and set up Trick Room for itself and its teammates to take advantage of.

Psychic/Normal Reuniclus is just what the doctor ordered for ghostbusting, but considering Marvel Scale and Competitive are both really fun abilities, gotta go with Water/Fairy Milotic. Competitive Milo especially is perfect in a world of Sticky Web and Defog, much like Defiant Bisharp.
