Fit Arjen Robben gives C. Ronaldo a run for his money on best player in the world. How sad he is not at Chelsea anymore.
 
The Netherlands is the best team so far imo, they have displayed the best football.

I wonder what will happen with Spain, i believe it will be a tie with Sweden, go Ibrahimovic :).

Russia will beat Greece as well.

eh...no. He is inconsistent and hasn't played well consistently since the 2004/05 season. Kaka, Henry, Ronaldinho and Messi are better bets if they are fit.
 
I don't think so, undoubtedly they've been the team of the tournament so far but you can't forget that in both games, especially against France they were on the back-foot for long periods of time. They don't look solid enough at the back to me, they were lucky not to concede against Italy, and were lucky yesterday to only concede 1 goal. I think the Netherlands will get to the semi's.
 
Robben rly isn't that good.. we call him 'the man of glass', Ronaldo is way better.

But I do believe that Van Persie is better than Ronaldo!

Ronaldo lacks general awareness in games. For instance, when he recieves the ball, he runs at defenders without any success in slithering past them. He could simply pass the ball to another player on the field and wait for a clear opening at goal, but he a fair ammount of the time he chooses the incorrect decisions. Kaka outruns Ronaldo in the tactical awareness department.

Another downside to Ronaldo's game is his work ethic when on the defensive. He rarely ever tracks back on the wing, and continues to moan/groan on the other side of the pitch. The odd time or so where he does defend isn't very effective at all, and he usually allows the attacker to run around him cleanly.

Two, brief attributes that I dislike from the FIFA Player Of The Year winner.
 
Why would you care about tracking back, that's not Ronaldo is about, he's doing his job defensively if he's attacking and stopping the full back getting forward.

Also, Czechs well and truly fucked over by Turkey...Cech won't like seeing the equaliser.

What the fuck now, Turkish keeper sent off stupidly pushing Koller.
 
Best game of the tournament. Then the keeper went and got sent off just for the sake of making the game even better.

Great stuff.

i wanted czech to come back with a goal to make it 3-3 that would've made the match perfect.

FIFA's Player Of The Year isn't decided on a players' overall game, but merely on statistics and minor rewards, which is why he won it. I do not care so much about his work ethic, as he certainly makes up for it when on the offensive. However, instead or moaning when his pass goes tits up, or when a pass that is directed towards him goes elsewhere, working on to retaining that ball would be much more benificial to our game rather than watching him flap his arms up and down. His 'cry baby' attitude is frowned upon by fans of his from all around the globe.

Never said I cared about it, but I did voice out what he evidently does not do.

Wow Turkey, just wow. At the highest level of play, comebacks like that come only once every few years, but good god are they awesome to watch. Seriously, how could anyone watching that game have not wanted them too win(Not you Czech fans)?
I'm also kind of surprised Tuncay isn't getting much credit. He had a truly magnificent game, at 2-0 he was the heart of the team, nothing was gonna stop him from driving on. I don't think anyone in the stadium wanted that win more than him, and it showed.
 
Haha, I wasn't watching Turkey's match, but I have turkish immigrant neighbours (infact, my entire neighbourhood is turkish) so I did notice all Turkish goals!

Hilarious.

Now for the dutch. IIRC we're up against Greece or Russia. Spain is #1 so we won't play against them in quarterfinals. Greece is the former european champion IIRC though, and Russia shouldn't be underestimated.

Or am I mistaken here.
 
Or possibly that Greece is out of the tournament and it is all down to Sweeden V Russia, Dutch will be playing the winner of that match.

Looks like my beloved Croatia are up against turkey.

Also, if they draw, Sweden will pass, since they have a higher goal difference.

I hope Romania passes in group C. They have to win to make sure they pass, otherwise they need a draw in Italy vs France, but considering Holland will be filled with substitutes, they can. I wouldn't be surprised to see Holland winning with an all-substitutes team, however.

I wouldn't place my bets on Spain if either France or specially Italy classified, but I think that against Romania we have a good chance on paper to win.

I'd love to see Romania go pass the group stages, and I was surprised that Turkey pulled it off against the Czechs with 20 minutes.

Since this is Soccer thread, I was looking at FIFA world cup rankings (updated for June) and I saw so many places I have never heard of, like the second to worst team (worst Papua New Guinea dropping 11) was Montserrat, who are they, personally I have never heard of them, some others would be Macau, Timor-Leste, Chinese-Taipei (I know where China is but I had no clue this place Taipei? Had a team. Of course all these teams suck, sorry if any of you root for those teams.

Goal Difference isn't used. Head to head results are. If Sweden and Russia draw it will go to penelties just like Turkey vs Czech.R would have done.
 
China-Taipei is the same as Taiwan, it's just a more politically correct term as China doesn't consider Taiwan a separate country and the 'capital' of Taiwan is Taipei.
