The Top 10 Titans of the 5th Gen OU Metagame

I feel like Genesect was at least more metagame defining than Tornadus-T. Yeah, I mean, Tornadus-T was certainly a top threat, but not as big as Genesect. First of all, apart from very few exceptions, Tornadus-T was only used on rain teams, whereas Genesect was used on just about any good team at the time. Tornadus-T gave Jirachi some usage, yes. But Genesect gave some Pokemon completely new sets (or rather, ones we never ever see became viable) like Scarf Ninetales and Shed Shell Heatran (to beat GeneDug). Either way, if Tornadus-T makes it on the list but Genesect doesn't, I would be shocked.
I never really had a Genesect set up a sweep on me and scarf was easy to deal with. I also barely used Genesect, so I am completely oblivious to its effect on the metagame other than the fact that it was used on like 30% of teams. I also never even changed my teams to accomodate for Genesect.. so yea.
Tornadus-T on the other hand forced everyone to carry a way to deal with it even if it wasn't as popular. Jirachi and Rotom-W might have already fit well on most teams, but being forced to use them AND keep them healthy all the way until late-game thanks to Regenerator is a little bit of a hassle.
However, like I said... I could just be oblivious to Genesect's effect as I never saw it as that threatening.

I don't get if these are supposed to be pokes that dominate OU, or pokes that completely broke OU when allowed in it. In terms of overall dominating power/influence on OU in their times, things like Genesect and Excadrill are actually pretty low on the list.

List of bad-ass in terms of ripping the OU game a new one:

1. Shaymin-S (first and last unanimous ban)
2. Kingdra (before banned from Politoed teams) (could include Politoed here)

...it's actually hard to say whether Shaymin-S or Kingdra were more broken.

3. Darkrai
4. Blaziken
5. Deoxys-S
6. Excadrill
7. Genosect
8. Tornadus-T
9. Thundurus
10. Manaphy (+Politoed)

1. Genesect: I don't even need a reason to tell you why a mixed scarfer with only one weakness could possibly punch through teams with just using U-turn and coverage moves.
2. Tornadus-T: Evading rocks with recovering HP from Regenorator, Tornadus-T happens to be a second best to me. Since the fall of Genesect, Torn-T was able to get a sprint on OU, but he hasn't left as huge of a dent that Genesect did...
3. Excadrill: Huge speed and terrifying attack. Enough said.
4. Deoxys-D: This is the sole reason why Hyper Offensive was viable to this day. I am sad to see such a good pokemon move to ubers, but it did too much to stay in OU.
5. Keldeo / Terrakion: One of the best sweepers to this day! Especially since they are S-rank, you know they are good.
6. Politoed / Scizor: Politoed centuralized the hole metagame. Scizor is here as well because since Genesect has came and gone, Scizor has been used more than ever.
7. Lati@s: After being unbanned, these guys serve as huge team supporters to this day. In either Sand or Rain, these guys can punch huge holes into teams. All you got to decide is offensive or defensive.
8. Dragonite: With gaining Multiscale, Dragonite can sweep in a ton of situations, but he still has problems so I have to put him lower on this list.
9. Chansey: With Wish being an all time must in stall, and Evolite making this blob a great wish sender, Chansey deserves some consideration for a spot.
10. Volcarona: Volcarona causes a ton of switches and can put dents on teams with just using Quiver Dance once or twice. It is one of the only rain abusing fire types I have seen.

Well thats enough said.

Y'all are forgetting one important thing: Moody. Come on there's even a clause for it, it was pretty good while it was there.

Y'all are forgetting one important thing: Moody. Come on there's even a clause for it, it was pretty good while it was there.
The thing about Moody is that it isn't a Pokemon. We are talking about Pokemon that wrecked the OU Metagame or helped shape it to what it is today. Moody is severely unpredictable as well. So, the only real use I see for it would be on something like SmashPass Smeargle, but you know that all you need is TTar to scare it off.

Moody was used mostly on Bibarel and Bidoof, if you want some logs, I got one here.

So yeah, not only Smeargle. Not my battle btw. But can we nominate anything else than a Pokemon?

How could you forget me?
When you think of Sand Offense, the first Pokemon to pop into anyone's head is this guy right here: Landorus
He had Sand Force which pretty much scared every living thing out there if it had its feet on the Ground. Even so, Flying Types and Levitators would crumble helplessly, if this guy had Gravity or Smack Down.
Landorus was also very popular as he could run a multitude of sets. It may appear to be Scarfed Landorus, until your Gliscor dies to an EB HP Ice.
Bring around BW2, and this guy is still ripping teams, revenging sweepers, poking holes in the opponents team, sweeping and making hot coffee in 90 seconds.

Game Freak also thought it'd be funny to give our Genie Sheer Force. Oh, it definitely lived up to that expectation all right. Things that used to laugh at Physical Landorus variants were now being blown up by STAB LO Sheer Force Boosted Earth Powers. Emphasize Power.

This guy really was influential on the BW Metagame, as he really epitomized Sand Offense. Without a shadow of doubt in my mind, this guy deserves to be a Titan.

Remember me well Smogon

In Essence an Intimidating Sledge Hammer!

How could we forget the new form of Landorus Therian!? Landorus Therian has 145 Atk, 89 Hp, and 90 with Intimidate as its ability. Even before it was being used incorrectly with scarfs it was predicted to be used more for momentum, which it changed into over time. Choice Banded Earthquakes, U-turns, Stone Edges, and Super Powers with base 145 attack have devistating power. With BW 2 access to Stealth Rocks Landorus Therian became a great bulky Intimidator choice as well. If having extremely good coverage and U-turn wasn't enough you could always help yourself to his wall breaking and sweeping Sword Dance, Gravity, Substitute, Bulk Up, and the still popular Rock Polish LO combinations.

Personally the top ten in my opinion are quite obviously:
Blaziken/Excadrill/Genesect/Thundurus-I/Tornadus-T/ Latios/ Terrakion/ Keldeo/ Landorus-I(and Therian)/ Garchomp or Kyurem Black or Dragonite
The order is capricious. Ninetales and Politoed as the new auto weather Pokemon is huge; combinations like Volt Switching, Dragon Power, Sun+ Dugtrio and Chlorophyl Pokemon, and Deo-D have at one time made huge impacts in the meta, but are not all big ten powerhouses necessarily. Garchomp's definitely still powerful, but less of a threat because of the new faster Pokemon and because of Landorus Therian's presence as well. Dragonite is definitely a powerhouse with the multiscale boost, but after adjustment and upping Forretress's usage I just forgot about how good he was lol. Oh and am I the only one who thinks Stoutland should be somewhere in the top 25???

___________________________________________________________________________________________________
The bottom line is that this generation has more power than any other Generation and I can't wait to see some of that power return from Ubers in Gen 6.

Just remember if Swift Swim + Drizzle ban was never put in place, Kingdra would still be at the top of the pack. GF intended this to be one of the most dominant Pokemon outside of ubers. If the Swift Swim ban didn't exist, Kingdra would be the #1 Dragon-- an SSS class Pokemon. Well, it'd be banned to put it simply.

Swift Swim Kingdra was widely agreed on to be more broken than SV Garchomp, Darkrai, Excadrill, Blaziken, Manaphy, and probably more broken than Shaymin-S too.

Kingdra was EASILY more broken than Genosect, Keldeo, Torn-T and Thundurus-- we're talking about completely different classes of Broken.

If you didn't play in the first few rounds of BW bans, you have NO idea what REAL broken is in OU.

WHY DO YOU THINK FERROTHORN WAS #1 USAGE FOR ALL OF EARLY BW??

Alright guys, sorry it took me a while to get this update out, I was busy being gone all weekend, but, I'm back, and the first round of voting has now officially begun! So, what will happen is I'll list the candidates for this round (and all subsequent rounds, while adding in any new contestants), and you guys will all vote on who you think should be in the running for top 10. So, the candidates are:

Kingdra
Landorus
Landorus-Therian
Genesect
Tornadus-Therian
Deoxys-Speed
Venusaur
Rotom-Wash
Politoed
Terrakion

Lavos

Banned deucer.
top 10, in order:

politoed
terrakion
deoxys-speed
excadrill
thundurus
scizor
landorus
tyranitar
ferrothorn
garchomp

honorable mentions: genesect, darkrai, shaymin-s, manaphy. none of them had a long enough stint in ou to really impact the entire bw ou metagame, but they were undeniably four of the strongest pokemon ever to grace the ou tier.

Neliel

Sacred Sword
Politoed
excadrill
deo-s
terrakion
blaziken
ninetales
thundurus
rotom-w
ferrothorn
Tyranitar

This is the list for me.

Blaziken
Terrakion
Politoed
Tyranitar
Ferrothorn
Scizor
Genesect
Excadrill
Shaymin-S
Tornadus-T

My reasoning behind this list is highlighted in my previous post. The order is just preference.

Ninetales
Politoed
Tyranitar
Scizor
Ferrothorn
Genesect
Keldeo
Terrakion
Jirachi
Blaziken

Same list I made before with just a couple of changes.

First time posting in this thread but I have been keeping up with it since it was started so here is my Top Ten:

Politoed
Ninetails
Tyranitar
Terrakion
Gliscor
Shaymin-S
(even though I was not around for his era, the unanimous ban factor is reason enough)
Ferrothorn
Dragonite
Genesect
Excadrill

EDIT
:
Ninetales
Ferrothorn
Genesect
Ferrothorn

Same list I made before with just a couple of changes.
Dude you put ferrothorn twice lol.

1. Politoed
2. Ninetales
3. Tyranitar
4. Excadrill
5. Genesect
6. Shaymin-S
7. Blaziken
8. Deoxys-S
9. Terrakion
10. Ferrothorn

Some of these are obvious, the top three are purely because this is, without a doubt, the generation of weather. We also have Genesect, Excadrill, and Blaziken who shaped the OU tier for the time they were allowed. Deoxys-S is on the list because it was responsible for making Deoxys+5 sweepers one of the best play-styles available. Shaymin-S deserves credit for being the only Pokémon to ever be banned unanimously, and for the brief time it was allowed in OU, it was an absolute monster. We then have Terrakion, which has consistently been a major threat that every team has had to prepare for since the beginning. Finally, we have Ferrothron, which has been the most influential wall this generation, being able to stop even the mighty Kingdra before Aldaron's Proposal, as well as being a staple on rain teams as a hazards setter.

top ten in order:
Politoed
Garchomp
Terrakion
Landorus
Ferrothorn
Thundurus
Tyranitar
Deoxys-S
Ninetales

The last one is a toss-up. There are plenty of mons that deserve this spot, however, I think that Volcarona wins as #10.

Roughly in order:
Politoed
Tyranitar
Deoxys-speed
Terrakion
Kingdra
Ferrothorn
Ninetales
Rotom-w
Excadrill
Gliscor

Imo, the most influential mons are the ones that have defined entire playstyles by themselves. Weather starters obviously, but also stuff like deo-s, rotom-w (p much countereacted rain's dominance by making SS viable), and gliscor (yeah, this guy p much MADE stall in BW1). Meanwhile, terrakion has been influential simply by its continual presence and threat--you literally cannot have a successful OU team that is weak to terra. Kingdra--come on guys, first complex ban basically for this, and it just let rain offense dominate as well as pushing its best counter, ferro, up to #1 for a while. Speaking of which, ferrothorn has p much kept defensive playstyles alive throughout BW, without this guy, offense would be the only playstyle imo. Excadrill was super powerful and basically meant you lost if you didnt have skarm, gliscor, or bronzong on your team...for about a month or smth, so #9.

I feel like dragonite, latios, jirachi, and gene all barely miss out here, most likely over gliscor. Also, I'm not including skymin etc. because honestly, they werent metagame defining; they were just broken. IDR, but I kinda doubt its usage led to a sudden spike in weavile usage or w/e--just everyone was using it, and every battle revolved around it. Yeah, most overpowered or overcentralizing even, but not most influential imo.

Guys, volc is not most influential. It's very strong or w/e but it does not create teamstyles and determine what is viable in OU.

Also, I kinda wonder if forry should be nommed (if it's still ok). It has basically always been the face of stall, and it along with ferro kinda has defined it. Just a thought. Tenta could also go up there somewhere (can't believe I'm saying this) since it kinda created rain stall.

I still think weighing something higher just because it was *less powerful* so didn't get the ban hammer/got the ban hammer later is ridiculous reasoning, so of all the Pokemon that had stints in BW OU, here are the top 10 powerful/influential:

Politoed
Shaymin-S
Kingdra (no SS restriction obviously, kind of goes hand-in-hand with Politoed)
Darkrai
Blaziken
Deoxys-S
Excadrill
Genosect
Tornadus-T
Thundurus

If you were to fuse Kingdra + Manaphy into Politoed's brokenness, than #10 would become Sand Veil Garchomp. (#11 would be a shared by Keldeo and Terrakion, the first "Great but not Broken" pokes of the list)

Alright, well, this is a bit of a problem.

So, I was originally having it planned for you guys to vote on 1 mon to have as a candidate for the top 10 voting in September, so that the topic would be one that wasn't just a short-time thread. However, what I'm deciding to do with this, since this is how it's working this time, is I'm going to take the top 5 out of all the lists that are being voted on, and have those 5 as the candidates for in September. Now, the next voting period will only be on 1 mon, and how that will go down is you will basically just give an argument on one of the mons that was mentioned.

Sorry for the confusion, but this way does work out as well I guess.

Just a suggestion, but maybe the best way to do the voting is to have everyone submit their top 10 list, #1 gets 10 points, #2 gets 9, etc., and then add up points and top ten go into list?

Well, the problem with that is that the same lists will be made every time. With this way, it allows everyone to have a selection of pokemon to choose from in september for the actual top 10 list.

Anyways, voting is now over, so it's time to crown the top 5 contestants for the top 10 titans. Your new candidates are:

Politoed
Tyranitar
Ferrothorn
Terrakion
Deoxys-Speed

These members will be edited in the op under the Candidates section.

Well, now it's time for another week of discussion on who should be selected as a candidate for the top 10. Also, if you guys would want to, a way to help out this discussion would be posting what movesets actually made these pokes broken? What exactly was it's defining set that made it a titan?
