Kartana @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Smart Strike
- Sacred Sword
- Defog / Knock Off

Kartana is able to threaten both with a powerful Sacred Sword, although some chip damage is needed to guarantee an OHKO on both. You could also Defog away the Stealth Rock from Mega Tyranitar if needed.

252 Atk Kartana Sacred Sword vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Kartana: 200-236 (76.9 - 90.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Kartana Sacred Sword vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Kartana: 200-236 (76.9 - 90.7%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock and 1 layer of Spikes
252 Atk Kartana Sacred Sword vs. 168 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar-Mega: 356-420 (92.9 - 109.6%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO

CM Mega Alakazam

Alakazam-Mega @ Alakazite
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Calm Mind

Despite being unable to switch in directly, Mega Zam is a huge threat to this core. It OHKOs Kart with Shadow Ball/ Focus Blast (Psychic also has a low chance to OHKO), and has a high chance to OHKO T-tar with Blast. However, if rocks (or Spikes) are up, T-tar is OHKOed.

Calcs V.S.
:

252 SpA Alakazam-Mega Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Kartana: 786-926 (303.4 - 357.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Alakazam-Mega Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Kartana: 262-309 (101.1 - 119.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Alakazam-Mega Psychic vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Kartana: 221-261 (85.3 - 100.7%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

Calcs V.S.
:

252 SpA Alakazam-Mega Focus Blast vs. 168 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar-Mega in Sand: 376-444 (98.1 - 115.9%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Alakazam-Mega Focus Blast vs. 168 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar-Mega in Sand: 376-444 (98.1 - 115.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Reserving Skarmory

Skarmory @ Shed Shell / Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Roost
- Defog
- Whirlwind / Spikes / Toxik
- Counter

252+ Atk Tyranitar Fire Punch vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 106-126 (31.8 - 37.8%) -- 90.8% chance to 3HKO
252 Atk Kartana Sacred Sword vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 72-85 (21.6 - 25.5%) -- 0.5% chance to 4HKO
First of all, Skarmory can defog against Tyranitar. Tyranitar can't 2HKO him. He restrains Kartana too with counter.
Corollary, Skarmory is an counter to this core.

Lopunny-Mega (F) @ Lopunnite
Ability: Limber
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Return
- High Jump Kick
- filler

Since Katy decided to STEAL my beloved protean greninja from me this week, I'll have to improvise. This core absolutely despises facing Mega Lopiunny, as it outspeeds and OHKOs both members of the core with High Jump Kick.

Hope I can post something a little unconventional (moves/EVs). Stole this set from Egor. I had asked for some input on a team of mine that was Kartana weak. The below EVs allow it to take 3 unboosted Leaf Blades from a -1 Kartana and OHKO with HP Fire. And it can 2HKO Mega T-Tar with EQ while Stone Edge is only a 3HKO at -1.

Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 80 HP / 136 Atk / 84 Def / 208 Spe
Naive Nature
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Explosion
- Hidden Power [Fire]

136 Atk Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 168 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar-Mega: 234-276 (61 - 72%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 SpA Landorus-Therian Hidden Power Fire vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Kartana: 432-512 (166.1 - 196.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

-1 252+ Atk Tyranitar-Mega Stone Edge vs. 80 HP / 84 Def Landorus-Therian: 142-168 (41.8 - 49.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
-1 252 Atk Kartana Leaf Blade vs. 80 HP / 84 Def Landorus-Therian: 126-148 (37.1 - 43.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Highlights

Threat of the Round:

: Mega Gallade is a really potent, underrated threat right now and I'm glad it was picked up in this round.

Additional Notes:

: It's far too easily worn down by this core.

Round 58 Core: Mega Gallade + Tapu Lele

Gallade-Mega @ Galladite
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Zen Headbutt
- Knock Off

Tapu Lele @ Choice Specs
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast
- Psyshock
  • This core is very straight forward. Mega Gallade is benefits greatly from Psychic Terrain, and it's also capable of taking advantage of common Steel-types. Tapu Lele manages to set up Psychic Terrain and can severely dent Psychic-resistant Pokemon, making it particularly threatening in tandem with Mega Gallade.
  • Try to post only OU viable Pokémon and don't post sets specifically for this core, additionally your threat should not be complete deadweight against teams that do not feature the core of Mega Gallade + Tapu Lele. Everyone have a good day!

Greninja @ Poisonium Z
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Spikes
- Ice Beam
- Gunk Shot
- Low Kick

Cool Greninja set that I made to snipe Rotom-W alongside Torn-T a while back, but works well vs this core as well. Z Gunk Shot OHKO's Gallade after rocks 100% of a time and its a roll in your favor to OHKO 100% Gallade while max attack Gunk Shot OHKO's Tapu Lele straight up

Reserving DD Reuniclus

Reuniclus @ Psychium Z
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Acid Armor
- Psyshock
- Recover

252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 44 SpD Reuniclus: 253-298 (59.6 - 70.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Gallade-Mega Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 212+ Def Reuniclus: 154-182 (36.3 - 42.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Reuniclus is a great check to Gallade thanks to his typing. He can place on Gallade and threatening the rest of the team. Especially, after one CM, Reuniclus win the duel against Tapu Lele.

Tornadus-Therian @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- Defog

So Torn is like, the best check to Gallade since it KOes with Hurricane even through its high SpDef. In addition, after small amounts of inevitable chip, it KOes Lele with Supersonic Skystrike.
On a sudenote, with MZam finding ways onto other teams, I think this core has a viable shot at being the “new” Psyspam variant. Just some food for thought.

Blacephalon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Flamethrower
- Fire Blast
- Trick

Blacephalon can't switch against basically any attack (excepting a predicted Close Combat from Mega Gallade or Focus Blast from Tapu Lele) and OHKO both of them with Shadow Ball with some minimal chip damage or Stealth Rock damage

252 SpA Blacephalon Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Lele: 258-306 (91.8 - 108.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Blacephalon Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Gallade-Mega: 260-308 (93.8 - 111.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Pinsir-Mega @ Pinsirite
Ability: Aerilate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Return
- Quick Attack
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake

Pinsir just OHKO both of them with return, while outspeeding and OHKOing lele, gallade is faster, yet his most effective move is zen headbutt that pinsir can take quite well. Getting flinch might be an issue but depending on the state of the game you could just waste terrain turns and kill with two quick attack or a +2 quick attack.
252 Atk Gallade-Mega Zen Headbutt vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Pinsir-Mega: 135-159 (49.8 - 58.6%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO
252 Atk Gallade-Mega Zen Headbutt vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pinsir-Mega in Psychic Terrain: 202-238 (74.5 - 87.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Aerilate Pinsir-Mega Return vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tapu Lele: 288-340 (102.1 - 120.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
PS: even Ice Punch gallade wouldn't kill Pinsir
252 Atk Gallade-Mega Ice Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pinsir-Mega: 168-198 (61.9 - 73%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

It seems like everyone for the most part is running into the same problem where they can wall one but not both Pokes and are for the most part banking on their Z move hitting one specific Poke. Also, Pokes that can outrun both and OHKO them have a hard time switching in safely.

While this isn't wrong, this isn't really true either. For instance, the main role of Z-move on reuniclus here isn't to nuke anything but to take less damage on knock off to allow reuni to just acid armor in front of gallade in a safer way.
Now about your second point, blacephalon is really frail, it basically doesn't switch on anything implying your more than likely to run adequate volt turn support to get it in, not only against this core, so while it's true that blacephalon can't switch on them, when you speak of blacephalon that said volt turn support is implied. And basically the same thing applied to Pinsir, you'll hardly ever switch him on something that isn't a fighting move/u-turn/a weak grass move from a bulky grass unless you're sure that he won't need to tank anything else to clean this yes Pinsir-mega is more of a late game cleaner, so if you want to get it in, it's most likely because it's guaranteed to do dammage, so you'll often be ok with sacrifiying something to let him in.

Moreover, or should I say anyway, pivot/volt turn/double switches are a thing, and lele being lock, makes things slightly easier to pivot around it granted it doesn't ohko everything on your team (in which case the problem is somewhere else imo)

Highlights

Threat of the Round:

: Blacephalon just clicks buttons against teams featuring this core.

Additional Notes:

: Doesn't 1v1 Tapu Lele but assuming Tapu Lele switches in, it does.

Round 59 Core: Mega Garchomp + Ash-Greninja

Garchomp-Mega @ Garchompite
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Mild Nature
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Draco Meteor
- Stealth Rock

Greninja-Ash @ Choice Specs
Ability: Battle Bond
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump / Surf
- Dark Pulse
- Water Shuriken
- Spikes

  • Within recent times, Mega Garchomp has been popping up more for its outstanding wallbreaking capabilities. This core revolves around softening up checks like Tangrowth, Rotom-W, and Mega Venusaur for each other.
  • Try to post only OU viable Pokémon and don't post sets specifically for this core, additionally your threat should not be complete deadweight against teams that do not feature the core of Mega Garchomp + Ash-Greninja. Everyone have a good day!

Outspeeds and threatens both M-Garchomp and Ash-Greninja w/ Ice Punch and HJK, respectively. However, don't let M-Lopunny lose too much HP so it won't be in a range of Water Shuriken.

Reserving Scarf lele

Tapu Lele @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Moonblast
- Hidden Power Fire
- Focus Blast

Tapu Lele is a good threat to that core because its STAB in Moonblast hits both of these mons for super effective damage and being able to outspeed both these mons due to its Choice Scarf.
Tapu Lele's ability Psychic Terrain blocks priority moves being fired against it and hence Ash-Greninja's priority move in Water shuriken is nullified by Psychic Terrain, thus preventing Greninja from being able to revenge kill Tapu Lele.
Tapu Lele is able to OHKO Ash-Greninja with Moonblast and can also guarantee an OHKO on Mega Garchomp after some prior damage.
Tapu Lele has to be wary about switching into either of these mons as they both have enough power to damage it severely, but all in all Scarf Tapu Lele is a good check to both Ash-Greninja and Mega-Garchomp.

Calcs:
252 SpA Tapu Lele Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp-Mega: 324-384 (90.7 - 107.5%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Tapu Lele Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp-Mega: 324-384 (90.7 - 107.5%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Tapu Lele Psychic vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp-Mega in Psychic Terrain: 232-274 (64.9 - 76.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Garchomp-Mega Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Lele: 110-130 (39.1 - 46.2%) -- 25.8% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Tapu Lele Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Greninja-Ash: 410-486 (143.8 - 170.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Tapu Lele Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Greninja-Ash: 348-410 (122.1 - 143.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Greninja-Ash Dark Pulse vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Lele: 195-231 (69.3 - 82.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Greninja-Ash Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Lele: 270-318 (96 - 113.1%) -- 75% chance to OHKO
