as mentioned, the likelihood of diploman and I reaching eachother was low regardless of our activity. We've tried pming eachother repeatedly and I lurked the smogon server for a while, but no luck.

yeah, if you won by a coin flip or by inactivity of your opponent, you won't gain or lose any points, but you will get placed in the winners bracket.
(To be fair to the other players, I can't give points just for trying since they did the same, and they played their match. Wanna convince me otherwise? Go ahead, send me a PM)

Shouldn't the winners of the coin flips at least get one point? I understand the unfairness of giving them random points but they are being put at a disadvantage since they can't get any extra points while their opponent most likely has gotten some. (Assuming they aren't playing another coin flip winner) One point is at least fair because they will at the worst case scenario gain as many points as the opponent. That's my two cents...
