Umbreon's impressive bulk and typing allows it to effectively spread status with Yawn and be a physical wall. Foul Play gives Umbreon an offensive presence, without needing to rely on its subpar offenses. Yawn lets Umbreon force foes out and allows it to stall out the foe's Dynamax turns if they choose to Dynamax on Umbreon. Wish is Umbreon's most reliable way of restoring its health and the health of its teammates. Protect is used for scouting potential moves, and for healing reliably with Wish if the recovery is needed immediately. Protect is also very useful for stalling Dynamax turns.

Leftovers grants Umbreon extra healing every turn. It also has great synergy with Protect. Inner Focus prevents Umbreon from flinching from moves such as Gyarados's Waterfall or Excadrill's Iron Head, which could otherwise ruin its momentum. A Bold Nature with maximum investment in HP and Defense makes Umbreon a lot better at tanking physical hits, which it will commonly be up against.

Umbreon is often too weak to pressure teams offensively to the extent that other Yawn users like Snorlax, Hippowdon, and Sylveon can, so it is more commonly used on defensive teams. However, it is still very flexible in terms of teammates. Stealth Rock users like Ferrothorn and Excadrill make great partners for Umbreon, as Yawn often forces switches. While Yawn is a great tool for forcing switches and giving setup opportunities to teammates, common Lum Berry users such as Togekiss can comfortably switch into Umbreon and set up on it. Additionally, Pokemon like Sylveon and Mimikyu can halt Yawn by Dynamaxing and setting up Misty Terrain to block status. As such, partners like Assault Vest Rotom-H help check Togekiss and prevent it from sweeping, while Steel-types such as Excadrill and Corviknight are checks to Misty Terrain setters like Sylveon and Mimikyu. Umbreon tends to pair well with Pokemon that benefit from the setup opportunities that Yawn gives, so Pokemon like Togekiss, Dragapult, and Gyarados all appreciate Umbreon's support. Dragapult in particular stands out as a teammate for Umbreon with its ability to hit through Substitute users like Hydreigon that Umbreon fails to pressure with Yawn.

Umbreon is fairly linear in what it does, so I kept the slashes on the set to as minimal as it could be and kept the set comments as short as I could. This should be ready for QC!

would a bold nature be better? to minimize confusion damage and enemy foul play.
You're right. Most Umbreons I run into are typically Impish since Umbreon doesn't normally run into situations where it gets Foul Played or confused but Bold is definitely the optimal choice on this set. Edited it in.

I got a bit of time before class to check this!

the main thing I think you should add is that Umbreon is extremely vulnerable to Lum Berry Togekiss, who can get to +4 SpA pretty effortlessly vs Umbreon, so I think you should mention using Togekiss checks such as Assault Vest Rotom-H as well.

Otherwise, QC Approved 1/2!

An Umbreon analysis that does not mention Mimikyu and Sylveon, and the Fairy types cannot be complete. Mention Lum in general as a Yawn countermeasure but Lum Togekiss is certainly a big one like Theorymon said. OTOH other fairy types like Mimikyu and Sylveon are grounded, and can Dynamax to break your Yawn cycle. Add this to an extra point for something like Excadrill or Corviknight being good teammates, which you have fortunately already mentioned.

Mention Substitute Pokemon that can set up on Foul Play. Sub NP Hydreigon in particular can be a royal pain as it is for basically all defensive teams, which makes Dragapult / Togekiss good setup options especially with aggressive plays. Umbreon is a passive Pokemon at its core and the analysis should at least briefly mention why it is a step below other Yawn users. Being "passive" can be a bit up-in-the-clouds but these type of gameplay interaction illustrates what that phrase means.

Do this and QC 2/2 should be good to go.

My apologies for taking a while to make the changes but they're done now. This is now ready for GP! If anyone has any comments on stuff I could add in or change, feel free to say something.

Umbreon’s impressive bulk and typing allows it to take on a role of spreading (verbose) effectively spread status with Yawn and being be a Physical Wall (don't capitalize roles like "wall" or the words "physical/special" unless directly using the exact phrase "Special Attack" to refer to the stat) physical wall. Foul Play is Umbreon’s primary choice of an offensive move to give it (verbose, redundant) gives Umbreon an offensive presence, (RC) which hits harder depending on the opposing Pokemon’s Attack stat (Dex info, unnecessary explanation of mechanics, doesn't show why it uses it over other moves) without needing to rely on its subpar offenses. Yawn forces Pokemon to switch or fall asleep if they stay in. Sleep is a status that comes in handy while stalling lets Umbreon force foes out and allows it to stall out the opponent’s (do not write analyses in Microsoft Word or Google Docs or on iPhone, this fucks with apostrophes) foe's Dynamax turns if they choose to Dynamax on Umbreon. Wish is Umbreon’s most reliable way of restoring its health, healing it for 50% of its HP to itself or a teammate if you happen to switch out on the turn it activates (do not literally just describe the mechanics of the move) and the health of its teammates. Protect is used for scouting potential moves, and for healing by reliably with Wish if the recovery is needed immediately. Protect is also very useful for stalling Dynamax turns, (RC) due to Umbreon only taking 25% of damage from maxed moves if it Protects (unnecessary description).

Leftovers is the primary item of choice on Umbreon. Due to the nature of its playstyle being very passive, it appreciates the (there are no other items so "primary item" is unnecessary, "of choice" is almost always fluff, and you don't really need to explain in heavy detail that leftovers is good because Umbreon is passive) grants Umbreon extra healing every turn. It also has great synergy with Protect. Inner Focus is the ability of preference for Umbreon, being immune to things that can flinch it prevents Umbreon from flinching from moves such as Gyarados’s Gyarados's Waterfall or Excadrill’s Excadrill's Iron Head, which cancould otherwise ruin its momentum. A Bold Nature with maxed maximum investment in HP and Defense makes Umbreon a lot better at tanking physical hits, which it will commonly be up against.

Umbreon is often too weak to pressure teams offensively to the extent that other Yawn users like Snorlax, Hippowdon, and Sylveon can, so it is more commonly used on defensive teams. However, it is still very flexible in terms of teammates. Stealth Rock users like Ferrothorn or and Excadrill make for great partners when using for Umbreon., as (remove period, add comma) Yawn often forces switches, and with Stealth Rock on the field, pressure can be applied when forcing said switches with Umbreon. While Yawn is a great tool for forcing switches and giving setup opportunities for to teammates, common Lum Berry users such as Togekiss can comfortably switch into Umbreon and set up on it. Additionally, Pokemon like Sylveon and Mimikyu can halt the Yawn cycle by Dynamaxing and setting up Misty Terrain to block status. As such, partners like Assault Vest Rotom-H help check Togekiss and prevent it from sweeping, while Steel-types such as Excadrill and Corviknight are checks to Misty Terrain setters like Sylveon and Mimikyu. Umbreon tends to pair well with Pokemon who that (don't refer to mons as who) benefit from the setup opportunities that Yawn gives, so Pokemon like Togekiss, Dragapult, and Gyarados all appreciate Umbreon’s Umbreon's support. Dragapult in particular stands out as a teammate for Umbreon with its ability to hit through Substitute users like Hydreigon, (RC) which that Umbreon fails to pressure since Yawn does not affect Substitute with Yawn.

In general, I would recommend working on presenting your information concisely. Fewer words to express a concept = better, generally. Phrases like "x is a thing that is good and does y" could be easily shortened to "x does y". Don't include the actual definitions of every move or item mentioned, just say *why* it runs them and what, functionally, it is useful for. Please take this, and anything else you learn from thoroughly reading this check, into account in any other writing you plan to do or are currently doing on Smogon. If you make an effort to improve on the points made in this check and let me know, I will take priority in checking your future work.
