Data Usage-Based Tier Update for June 2017 (Jul @ #71) (Aug @ #82)

All right. It's finally all done.

As we all know, the intent was to do monthly quick rises/drops for Gen 7, but the PS server had different plans, so here we are in June, and the last tier update used March stats.

So I went ahead and computed the tier changes (as well as the initial NU banlist) based on the last three months of stats for each tier, combining regular, suspect, beta and alpha stats, with a weighting of 20-3-1 for May-April-March, and calculating the cutoffs between tier using a set threshold of approximately 3.41% (if you want to get technical, it's 1-.5^.05).

It's UU, it has 5.78% usage there. It may have been allowed in RU accidentally for maybe a day to account for it's .12% usage there.

In all honesty, I think xurkitree is going to never manageable to an extent in UU. Although its power is unparalleled in terms of electric types(seriously, even ferrothorn is nearly KOed by a +3 FIFA gigavolt havoc iirc), there are a good number of threats that keep it in check, with or without the speed boost from z-hypnosis. Remember, xurkitree has a really hard time setting up either tail glow or z-hypnosis(or z-electric terrain), and setting up both most likely isn't going to happen against a competent player. Even with a speed boost from the z move, several scarfers such as terrakion, hydreigon, and infernape still outpace it and deal severe damage to xurkitree. This isn't mentioning that mega aerodactyl, which is commonly used on offensive and bulky offensive teams(aside from mega sharpedo), and is one of the most common Pokémon inn the tier, outpaces xurkitree and destroys it with earthquake. However, I will not deny that xurkitree is a terror for other team archetypes, especially given that the unaware users on stall teams, clefable and quagsire, do not like taking xurkitree's attacks. Xurkitree will definitely have a huge impact on the metagame, but I believe it is ok settling in UU.

Pelipper might be OU again next update rather than dropping down each time. Mega Swampert was only just released, which is also why its usage is as low as it is, but rain teams have seen quite a rise in usage since its release, and Pelipper is a must on those, so it's probably gonna rise again. It was ridiculously close to not missing the cut too. Somewhat unfair that Mega Sceptile and Mega Swampert got dropped considering they basically couldn't have enough usage by now under any circumstances, but considering they're likely gonna drop at some point anyways (Mega Swampert might've stayed for a single update perhaps), why not just do that already.

Happy to see a good amount of OU stables be back in the tier by usage. I suppose there's no need for UU to have Mewnium-Z banned anymore.

I don't ever play UU, though I do pay attention to trends there too. That tier sure got shaken up quite a bit. Lost a handful of their best mons and got a lot of new stuff, albeit a few of them in for a quick ban.
