Togekiss @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Ancient Power
- Air Slash
- Roost
The ultimate scumbag set. Moltres usually has nothing to fear from +0 Togekiss sans scarf flinches. Not only does this move OHKO Moltres with little or no chip, but it also deals hefty damage to Mega Aerodactyl as well. The icing on the cake is serene grace works in conjunction with Ancient power to double the chance of an all +1 boost, which could greatly aid in sweeping potential.
I am surprised no one posted this set. Natural Gift Rock on Scizor is the ultimate lure as Moltres is often used as a switch in to Scizor thanks to its typing, natural bulk and ability, Flame Body. Bullet Punch is the mandatory move and Superpower is a nice coverage to finish the set. Another Scizor check, Chandelure is also lured by this set. While it is not common, this set also helps with Mantine as it has a high chance to grab OHKO at +2. The most important thing to point out is, you need to be wary of Knock Off users as losing berry means no NG.
252+ Atk Charti Berry Scizor Natural Gift (80 BP Rock) vs. 248 HP / 44 Def Moltres: 400-472 (104.4 - 123.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Charti Berry Scizor Natural Gift (80 BP Rock) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Chandelure: 210-248 (80.4 - 95%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Technician Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Chandelure: 59-69 (22.6 - 26.4%) -- 22.4% chance to 4HKO
+2 252+ Atk Charti Berry Scizor Natural Gift (80 BP Rock) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Mantine: 346-408 (92.5 - 109%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO after Leftovers recovery
Edit: Thanks to user Red_Shaggy , I have editted according to Charti Berry.
Aggron-Mega @ Aggronite
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Heavy Slam
- Fire Punch
- Stone Edge
Typical Mega Aggron sets cannot touch Moltres and usually invite it in for little cost, particularly Defog Moltres which can usually clear away hazards for free vs Mega Aggron. Stone Edge effectively lures Moltres, even KOing defensive variants without any Attack investment, and also helps to keep your own Stealth Rock up vs teams that are somewhat reliant on Defog Moltres.
252 SpA Moltres Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Filter Aggron-Mega: 217-258 (63 - 75%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Fire Blast from offensive Moltres also does a maximum of 75% to this Mega Aggron spread, so it's also possible to beat it in a 1v1 scenario should the situation ever call for it. I hope to see more intriguingly awesome lure sets!

Thanks for all your submissions! Firsly I'd like to annouce that vivalospride will be co-running this project with me (maybe I'll stop missing deadlines). Vote below for your favourite Moltres lure!
Cobalion @ Fightinium Z / Steeluim Z / Shuca Berry / Leftovers [this thing can run a lot of items, whatever you'd want really depending on the team]
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Close Combat
- Iron Head
- Stone Edge
The winner is DraconicLepus! Congratulations! Your set will be added to the archive.
Alomomola has been a staple on fat builds in UU all generation with it being the perfect example of a generic "fat water" in UU. With fat waters being so common on teams, specifically bulkier ones. The tier has developed many different lures to take advantage of them due to them being generally weak to special attacks, rather predictable and linear, etc.
Cobalion @ Electrium-Z / Fightinium-Z
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Flash Cannon
- Focus Blast
- Volt Switch / Hidden Power Grass
Uses alomomomomomola as the most guaranteed setup bait ever w/ immunity to Toxic and taking pitiful damage from Knock Off or Scald. Proceeds to kill and then run through most stall teams. Volt Switch is better vs Balance / Offense to use Coba as a pivot and vs Pyukumuku with Electrium-Z, HP Grass is an option to be self sufficient in beating Quagsire.
0 SpA Alomomola Scald vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Cobalion: 37-45 (11.4 - 13.9%) -- possible 8HKO
+1 252 SpA Cobalion All-Out Pummeling (190 BP) vs. 40 HP / 216 SpD Alomomola: 474-558 (98.5 - 116%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252 SpA Cobalion Gigavolt Havoc (140 BP) vs. 40 HP / 216 SpD Alomomola: 466-550 (96.8 - 114.3%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Leftovers recovery
Infernape @ Grassium Z
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 168 Atk / 88 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Overheat / Fire Blast
- Close Combat
- Grass Knot
- U-turn / Gunk Shot / Earthquake [A lot of options for this slot]
So I first really used this set during washtom meta to be able to nuke rotom with grassium-z and kill it to allow ample opportunities for other pokemon such as mega pidgeot to be able to shine due to their flying resistance, granted if they had a rock type or not. The same applies for this, if you are able to bluff the choice scarf, and have alo stay in on you, you'll be able to nuke it with grassium-z, which a close combat into z-grass knot will always kill alo.
This is more of a general lure Metagross than a dedicated Alomomola lure, as it catches Alomomola and many more. Metagross tempts Alomomola to come in and stave it's meteor mashing assault, especially since it isn't usually fond of knock offs or scalds, and normally struggles to break Alomomola. I figured a trick choice set would be a little too close to standard and easy for a good Alomomola player to scout out, so I went with a hone claws set with stealth rocks to lull Alomomola into a false sense of security. If rocks doesn't matter as much to you however, you can go with earthquake to retain hitting threats like Aggron-Mega or Bullet Punch for strong priority. So This set focuses on boosting with hone claws to blow Alomomola away. Hone Claws puts Metagross at +1 attack, all It needs to send Alomomola to the moon. You can either use Electrium Z thunder punch, which has a very good shot of dealing with Alomomola after rocks, or Life Orb Explosion, which does more damage, lures a larger pool of mons in general, and frees up your Z-slot, but at the cost of your Metagross.
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Metagross Explosion vs. 40 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola: 497-585 (103.3 - 121.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+1 252+ Atk Metagross Gigavolt Havoc (140 BP) vs. 40 HP / 252+ Def Alomomola: 430-506 (89.3 - 105.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
So it's really up to you what path you wanna go. This set also notably catches a large number of other mons that normally wall Metagross like Scizor, Hippowdon, Slowbro, and honestly too many other checks to name.
+1 252+ Atk Metagross Gigavolt Havoc (140 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Scizor: 258-304 (91.8 - 108.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Metagross Explosion vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Scizor: 299-352 (106.4 - 125.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+1 252+ Atk Metagross Gigavolt Havoc (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 348-410 (88.3 - 104%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Metagross Explosion vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Slowbro: 404-476 (102.5 - 120.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+1 252+ Atk Metagross Gigavolt Havoc (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 282-332 (71.5 - 84.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Metagross Explosion vs. 252 HP / 0+ Def Slowbro-Mega: 325-383 (82.4 - 97.2%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
(While neither of these guaranteed OHKO Megabro, its lack of regen makes this damage important. And Explosion still has the chance to nab this KO with hazard chip.)
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Metagross Explosion vs. 252 HP / 80+ Def Hippowdon: 441-519 (105 - 123.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Metagross Explosion vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Gligar: 278-328 (83.2 - 98.2%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Metagross Explosion vs. 252 HP / 160+ Def Suicune: 420-495 (103.9 - 122.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+1 252+ Atk Metagross Gigavolt Havoc (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 160+ Def Suicune: 362-428 (89.6 - 105.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Metagross Explosion vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Swampert: 461-543 (114.1 - 134.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Alright I think you get the memo. This set catches a LOT of mons that normally wall Metagross in addition to Alomomola. Either outright beating them, beating them with minimal chip, or slamming their HP down into unusability. And it doesn't even sacrifice rocks and/or it's ability to check certain mons like Latias, Crobat, Aero, etc. to do this since most of the time it just needs Meteor Mash (And sometimes bullet punch) to beat things it commonly checks. Just try not to gun for a hone claws explosion on a check if you need Metagross itself to check something of course. I hope you like the set! I took a long while thinking it up!
