UU -- Are we really using the best?

Trick Room Clamperl UU team.

I almost beat Cynthia with it, the battle came down to our last pokemon. She won due to stalling the last turn of Trick Room out with Protect.

Ive been using a simple CB Primeape which surprisingly does very well, U turn hits grumpig and hypno very hard and, im about to try an overheat primeape for steelix, I got to mess around with the spreads a little but i think over heat may be better than expected on it

I've found Skuntank to be effective. It's like Absol, but with secondary STAB(Poison doesn't suck as much in UU) and Explosion. And it can still use Fire attacks to kill Steelix etc.

EQ can deal with Steelix just fine, especially with CB, and will end up being better suited to deal with things like Muk and Nidoqueen as well.

Earthquake, Ice Punch/Stone Edge, Close Combat, U-Turn should give you great coverage.

I died on the inside when I found out Steelix and Leafeon were made UU. I can see Leafeon SD sweeping quite well in the environment. Drapion in UU is also quite a good pkmn to use. Toxic Spikes is always handy for those damn Grumpigs and Hypnos.

Speaking of Grumpig and Hypno, I see them as the Blissey of UU. They are both the premier special walls of UU and I find them to be abused.

Don't peope use Chansey in UU though? Because it hasn't been made BL yet like it was in GSC and Advance (and I have no idea why).

No decision was reached regarding the tier placement of NFE's.

However people who use Chansey in UU matches are often met with negative reactions, and most of the "seasoned" UU players know not to use her in any event.

ive never faced a Chansey, most often is the odd Haunter or Kadabra

I've recently(today lol) tried my luck at UU and found it to be a little underpopulated but I had more fun than I did in OU because OU pokes are really cliche-d with the Celetrandoszapchompbliss teams running around way too much.

So anyways, I've been using several Underused UU(lol) pokemon like Ampharos. It seems no one ever gives him a look when compared to say, Manetric, Luxray and Pika/Raichu. I've been experimenting with his little options.

Ampharos@leftovers
Bold Nature (+Def/-Atk)
252 HP/120 Def/136 SpA
-Hidden Power [Ice]/[Grass]
-Discharge/Thunderbolt
-Reflect
-Heal Bell/Thunderwave/Toxic/Counter

The 'Ampha-boah' set in the Analysis didn't show much of Ampharos' better than average defences and with Reflect it can stay in on Earthquakes by the ever increasing Nidoqueen while being able to 2HKO it with Hidden Power.

Heal Bell is for team support and with Wish support, he stays quite long. However, I have yet to test Thunderwave and Toxic, but I'm sure they have their uses.

Counter has also tested out well, I've been able to kill CB-kings after I've put Reflect up and bounced it back at them since HP:[Ice] can't OHKO. But counter is still situational. HP:[Grass] was tested but there hasn't been much use of Water/Ground as far as I've played.

I've also tested out Wishpassing Flareon which seemed pretty lacking in both offense and Defense. I'm so far enjoying Specs-lass and LO-king.

^Really? I think Amphy is actually quite popular. He's not Leafeon/scyther/manectric by any means but I think you could compare his popularity in UU to say something like what Milotic is in OU. You will definitely see him around I think. Not every battle, but he'll be around. That massive sATK score and relative bulkiness will set him to use.

It's annoying now that alot of people are going into UU, There's going to be less OU battles. I play OU, but not how people think. I really do believe that the best stratergy for playing is cross-teirs. UU pokemon do work in OU, and they take alot of people by suprise. You get the most out of everything, and I find it far more effective.

I quit UU because nobody played it, but now I suppose I should really get into it again. But It's still going to be annoying, I'm pretty sure the majority of people are going to opt for "OU" UU teams, So now instead of the usual spamming of Blissey and Garchomp, it's going to be things like Scyther and Hypno. >_>

I suppose there's really OU's of every teir, and you can't really get rid of that problem by splitting UU up into 2 teirs of OU UU and UU, because then there'll be more OU's in the second UU teir and so on. Until you have loads of teirs with only 6 pokemon or something stupid.

Well to be honest thats nothing new really.

Even in Advance UU you'd still all the time see Tentacruel, Manectric (no changes there), Lunatone, Nidoking, Quagsire, Solrock, Kangaskhan, Blastoise, Ampharos, Hypno, Grumpig and Azumarill.

That's just how the game goes really. Not every pokemon is equal. There's always gonna be ones that are better than others and get used more. I mean if we had an NU tier, pokemon like unown and ditto still aren't gonna be used because they're just that bad. If we had a craptastic tier below NU, those would be the only two pokemon in it and they'd get used.

I'm always tempted to toss an Unown on a team just to freak out some player.

I love my current UU team which is not using much in particular standards but has done fairly well so far. Currently it's Dodrio, Arbok, Torkoal, Lapras (people forget how well Lapras can take hits especially with a curse or two), Wormadam-G (who can be nasty if played right), and Sableye. They may not look great, but played together well, they have won quite a few matches for me.

Agreed on Seviper, and I think Luxray as a leadoff (see the first page of the warstory archive for beautiful play in this vein) is interesting, because it has a huge attack stat and a lot of things people can be afraid of. Honestly, I think it's somewhat of a UU BulkyGyara.

Specs Ninetales is way better then the Plot one. People switch to their Sleep absorber and meet an almost 400 Satk Fire Blast. And it has a lot more coverage.

I've been using a defensive Resttalk Rotom for great sucess on my main UU team. T-Bolt, WoW, Resttalk. It just fucks every single fighting type and the annoying Nidoking that's everywhere. Sandslash and Blastoise, the premier spinners in UU can't get past it (even Sandslash with Night Slash, it is a 3HKO and I have WoW).

edit: As an added bonus, this Rotom is an exelent Scyther and Swellow counter too

Rotom is a crap swellow and scyther counter. It's slower than both of them and is 2HKOed by both of them. It resists all their main moves but its defenses are just too crap compared to the offenses of these pokemon.

Rotom is never 2HKOed by Swellow's Brave Bird, and it's immune do Facade.
and what, Rotom is only 2HKOed after a SD, so I can WoW/T-bolt Scyther.

Remember, I use a defensive one ;]

[edit just to prove my point]
Brave Bird by an Adamant Swellow boosted by Guts using my EV spread
Damage: 35.20% - 41.45%
and Swellow loves to spam Facade so you can have a free switch in
oh and I used Metalkid, so the real damage is a bit lower

+2 Atk, Jolly Scyther holding a Life Orb Technician boosted Aerial Ace
Damage: 49.67% - 58.22%
again, I'm using Metalkid, so the damage is a bit lower and it CAN avoid the 2HKO with lefties (witch I use).

I've actually lost quite a few matches in UU just because I underestimated some of the pokemon listed above. Anyways, most "standard" guys I used, and saw, were weak to them TT. I was almost beat by one Lapras...mentioned by Terrick.
Afterwards, I tried using Flareon. I mean, his movepool sucks, but I found he was a pretty good Special wall, and a awesome Toxistaller. He won me quite a few matches.

UU's rock and Nidoking murders. And no one mentioned Armaldo and Drapion. I won a ton of UU ladder matches with those two. Armaldo sweeps like hell and so does Drapion.

Indeed, I've used Armaldo and Drapion on OU teams with a great deal of success. Drapion makes an awesome Toxic Spiking lead.
