Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Liquidation

Why does Pelipper have so many good physical attacks? Anyway, its nice physical movepool is great, as it can have Gunk Shot for Primarina and Seed Bomb for Rotom-W.

252+ Atk Choice Band Pelipper Gunk Shot vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Primarina: 306-362 (101.6 - 120.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

This week's Next Best Thing is...

Week 32: Tapu Bulu

:ss/Tapu Bulu:

Tapu Bulu has made a name for itself as a wallbreaker that heals its foes due to its ability, Grassy Surge. With its defensive typing allowing it to be a check to Krookodile, Tapu Bulu can also break annoying walls such as Amoonguss, Tangrowth, and Buzzwole, depending on its coverage. However, UU has an abundance of Pokemon that are able to check Tapu Bulu such as Salamence, Aegislash, and Tangrowth. This week Tapu Bulu has requested a new set that will allow it to thrive in the current meta and leave its place C+ rank for greener pastures.

Tapu Bulu @ Choice Band
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Wood Hammer
- Close Combat
- Zen Headbutt / Megahorn
- Stone Edge

Y'all know what Bandulu does, it clicks the funny Grass move and deletes anything not named Tang, Amoong, Aegi, or anything that resists Grass. While Bandulu does face pretty heavy competition from the likes of Zarude and other heavy-hitters, it has the advantage of having excellent defensive utility and the ability to bluff SD.

Defensive Tapu Bulu
:ss/tapu_bulu:
Tapu Bulu @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 Spe
Impish Nature
- Horn Leech
- Dazzling Gleam
- Toxic
- Synthesis

I'm surprised this wasn't a banned set, considering it's getting an analysis soon. While it faces stiff competition from Tangrowth and Amoonguss, Grassy Surge, the ability to more directly threaten Kommo-o and Salamence, and Fairy-typing to take hits from Pokemon like Crawdaunt, Zarude, and Lycanroc-D better give it a small niche. Toxic is used to hit foes like Rotom-H and Moltres that the set cannot otherwise damage, and Synthesis is needed for reliable recovery. The EVs are taken from the upcoming analysis, and are used to outspeed Choice Specs Primarina while maximising physical bulk for Lycanroc-D and Buzzwole. Rocky Helmet can be used over Heavy-Duty Boots to punish contact attackers.

Tapu Bulu @ Choice Scarf
Adamant Nature
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Wood Hammer
- Horn Leech
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge

Choice Scarf Tapu Bulu is a great revenge killer with surprise factor against Pokemon such as Moltres, Thundurus, Zygarde-10%, and Lycanroc-D. Adamant is preferred for higher damage output, but Jolly can be run for Noivern.

Tapu Bulu @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 120 Def / 136 Spe
Jolly Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Disable
- Nature's Madnesses

sub seed bulu. It’s able to set up a substitute and wear down Pokémon with leech seed and nature’s madness. Disable also hinder other mons. Walled by Amoonguss but so it’s every tapu bulu set

Assault Vest Tapu Bulu

Tapu Bulu @ Assault Vest
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat/Wood Hammer
- Horn Leech
- Stone Edge
- Zen Headbutt

136 Spe EVs are enough to reach 220 points, one point higher than a fully-invested Modest Primarina.
120 HP EVs + AV are enough to give Tapu Bulu a SpD high enough to withstand some special attacks.
For example:
  • 252 SpA Noivern Flamethrower vs. 120 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Tapu Bulu: 112-134 (36 - 43%) -- 95.9% chance to 3HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
  • +2 252 SpA Thundurus Psychic vs. 120 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Tapu Bulu: 133-157 (42.7 - 50.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
  • 0 SpA Rotom-Heat Overheat vs. 120 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Tapu Bulu: 204-242 (65.5 - 77.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
Horn Leech is a must-have because it reaches a good base power with the STAB + Grassy Terrain and it is a good recovery move if it hits something not resistant to it.
Zen Headbutt is a good coverage move such as Stone Edge (when it hits) because they hit hard a plethora of targets.
The 4th slot is disputed between Close Combat (the drawback is horrible even with the AV equipped) and Wood Hammer, a strong STABbed move that have a recoil and Grass resistances are everywhere.
Some examples:
  • 252+ Atk Tapu Bulu Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Noivern: 288-340 (92.6 - 109.3%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO
  • 252+ Atk Tapu Bulu Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Rotom-Heat: 226-268 (74.5 - 88.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  • 252+ Atk Tapu Bulu Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 88+ Def Moltres when Roosting: 216-256 (56.3 - 66.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
  • 252+ Atk Tapu Bulu Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Thundurus: 322-380 (107.6 - 127%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Tapu Bulu @ Leftovers
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Bulk Up
- Horn Leech
- Close Combat
- Synthesis

Bulk up Tapu bulu can take advantage of many Pokemon such as Zarude,zygarde-10%, and Keldeo locked into its stabs thanks to bulk up raising its bulk and sp def investment. As a result it is harder to revenge kill due to its massive bulk .

Why Close Combat and not Superpower?

EDIT:Nevermind, I see the side effect.
