Tentacruel is a interesting check to Gligar, while tenta have afraid of get quaked, it outspeed Gligar and can pontentially burn him if Gligar stay in, or do you paper as a spinner if Gligar switch out.

Calm Mind BoltBeam Latias is an amazing counter to Gligar, since thanks Levitate Lati is immune to Earthquake, and can hit Gligar with a 4x supereffective Ice Beam, almost always doing an OHKO without even a previous boost of Calm Mind.

So I derped and didn't read what a check means so I'm gonna use starmie instead. When given the free switch in it always beats Gligar through Hydro Pump or Ice Beam. It can also rapid spin the hazards fairly easily as it either forces it out or eats an EQ. Waterium-Z can be used to nuke it also but Gligar drops to LO Ice Beam.

Altaria-Mega @ Altarianite
Adamant Nature
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 184 HP / 140 Atk / 184 Spe

So bulky refresh Mega Altaria both hard walls and beats Gligar. Before mega evolving Altaria is immune to gligar only stab EQ. This means it can set up on it with ease. Thanks to natural cure it can also not waste a turn pressing refresh if you end up doubling out. Even though it takes 25% from SR if it hasn't evolved it sets up with ease still. So once evolved it loses the ground immunity but thanks to its bulk it eats EQ for days. It only needs +2 to 2ohko and thanks to it always outspeeding even when unboosted it always roosts before Gligar can potentially finish you off. It also doesn't care about knock off sets due to the mega stone so it's a good knock absorber. Overall really strong counter, you can run bulkier sets but this one works fine.

Reuniclus is a Gligar counter. Takes like between 17% and 20% from EQ and can CM up. Toxic does nothing from Magic Guard. Knock off is basically the only thing doing damage and it does like 22% to 26% with the item still there. Gligar is Reuni Fodder.

Bat is a hard counter to Gligar, coming in and being immune to nearly all of it's common moves barring u-turn which it 4x resists, and the rare knock which still does pitiful damage. Taunt also prevents it from healing up with roost, letting Bat always win this 1v1, even if it's the absolute worst case scenario, Bat will win this 1v1 and there is nothing Gligar can do.

Aerodactyl-Mega @ Aerodactylite
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang

Aerodactyl-Mega is an effective check because while potentially getting hit by a toxic is annoying, it can't do anything to threaten MAero otherwise, while MAero can threaten to crush Gligar in return with a clean 2HKO from Ice Fang. It will always come in safely and while it has to be careful of the poison it can consistently scare Gligar out or KO it.

Shark is a nice counter and doesn't really get worried by toxic as it's a late game cleaner and should protect as soon as it switches in for speed boost anyways. Ice fang does what you would expect to a gligar.

Crawdaunt is a nice check to gligar that either ohkos with crabhammer, or removes eviolite and does a large amount of damage with knock off, while providing incredibly high damage on any forced switches that aren't chesnaught or defensive m-altaria. While it does fear a potential knock off, it doesn't take too much damage from earthquake and only takes 33-40% damage from a u-turn, meaning the very presence of crawdaunt puts enormous pressure on the opponent to not allow it in.

Togekiss is a nice counter to gligar, being able to freely set up on it, immune to eq, 2x resistant to u-turn, and being able to heal bell off any potential toxics. While knock off may be slightly annoying, it still provides a turn of set up after, if running knock off instead of toxic a z-aura sphere set would also completely counter.

I wouldn’t call this a counter since as it turns out, even Adamant Shark doesn’t OHKO from full. Meanwhile, with rocks up...

For it to be a solid counter, Shark would need to come in hard, and if it eqs turn one then it’s essentially a coinflip in Gligar’s favor if rocks are up, if it doesn’t sacrifice the little bit of speed it runs into attack, which I occasionally do. Check is probably the better term here.
 
Oooh loving all the submissions I got this time around! However, I am raising and lowering a couple mons. Mega Blastoise and Mega Aerodactyl are being moved up to counters. Between Earthquake being a 4HKO and Refresh removing possible status, Mega Blastoise is capable of consistently switching into Gligar throughout the match. Mega Aerodactyl also manually switches into Gligar and really doesn’t give a shit about Toxic especially with Roost since Mega Aerodactyl is usually coming in to pick off weakened threats in most other situations. Finally, Mega Sharpedo is dropping to a check. Nightingales explained it perfectly but I’ll bring in my feedback. I understand that it is only used for the late-game to clean up but Mega Sharpedo doesn’t fit the definition of a counter since that implies you could consistently hard switch it into Gligar which is bad for Mega Sharpedo because a. Mega Sharpedo has a chance to be 2HKOed by Earthquake after Rocks as shown by the calcs and b. it doesn’t want unnecessary chip that gives it a higher chance to get picked off by priority. So you already know my stance on Doublade because I think it’s really easy to justify using Doublade on much more offensive oriented teams due to it blanket checking a multitude of problematic threats for the archetype while not the at the expense of offensive pressure since it can still act as a decent set-up sweeper later in the game. Now find a way to break the shield to expose the swords! Voting begins on the usual Wednesday at 8PM GMT-4 and all that jazz. Good luck!​

Rotom-H is a great check to Doublade as it can eat an unboosted Shadow Claw/ Sacred Sword/ +2 Shadow Sneak and OHKO Doublade with Overheat. Alternatively, it can throw a Will-O-Wisp at Doublade or whatever switch-ins to Rotom-H. However, +2 Shadow Claw/Sacred Sword threaten Rotom-H on the switch-in, especially when Rotom lost its Berry or chipped. Well, Rotom-H has no reason to switch into a +2 Shadow Claw/ Sacred Sword. Currently, I think it is still a check to Doublade because Rotom-H can only tank a specific numbers of Shadow Claw/ Sacred Sword/ +2 Shadow Sneak due to one-time recovery.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
If both of the mons are considered as counter, I would like to take Rotom-H.

Moltres as a check (or counter, I'll leave Moute to decide):

Technically it could be a counter, so I'll mention this quickly. If you somehow manage to land Will-O-Wisp on Doublade, you basically counter it unless it nails a crit shadowclaw on you after rocks. Doublade isn't really doing much anyways, unless it gets an SD up before attacking.

252+ Atk Doublade Shadow Claw vs. 248 HP / 36 Def Moltres: 118-139 (30.8 - 36.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

However, my reasoning for calling it a check is that if it manages to nab a Swords Dance when you switch into Moltres, avoids Will-O-Wisp, doesn't get Flame Bodied, then Claw into Sneak KOs Moltres.

+2 252+ Atk Doublade Shadow Claw vs. 248 HP / 36 Def Moltres: 234-276 (61 - 72%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Gligar is a Counter to Doublade because it can Knock Off it's eviolite and start Eqing and roosting to keep dealing with it, or Taunt it and EQ. Doublade has no solid recovery and even at +2, it's attacks are kinda pitiful..

+2 252+ Atk Doublade Gyro Ball (76 BP) vs. 252 HP / 156+ Def Eviolite Gligar: 123-145 (36.8 - 43.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
That's Doublade's strongest attack VS Gligar. It barely does around 42% on average. Meanwhile,

Vs Non-Knocked off Doublade: 0 Atk Gligar Earthquake vs. 240 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Doublade: 84-98 (26.3 - 30.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

Vs Knocked Off Doublade: 0 Atk Gligar Earthquake vs. 240 HP / 0 Def Doublade: 120-144 (37.6 - 45.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Basically, Gligar is beating this thing 1v1 essentially every time unless you run into some wack hp ice Doublade.

Bisharp is a strong check to Doublade. With Darkium, or just Knock Off in general really Bisharp heavily pressures Doublade. However, it can't always switch into Doublade if the full set isn't revealed and they may be carrying Sacred Sword.

Any Taunt Chesnaught can counter Doublade. Taunt stops Doublade from setting to break past Chesnaught's defenses. And all Chesnaught ever really has to fear is the rare Toxic.

Krookodile is a great check to doublade, not only is it splashable, it has intimidate, can knock off it's eviolite, and both its STABs are super effective, though it doesn't appreciate sacred sword coverage. Great mon, great check.

Modest Nature

Submitting Mega-Blastoise as a hard check to Doublade. Doublade has to walk on eggshells if it wants to spinblock the tortoise. Mega Launcher boosted Dark Pulse is a guaranteed OHKO through HP investment and Eviolite. Doublade can't do significant damage to M-Blastoise from the get-go, however M-Blastoise can't switch into a +2 Shadow Claw or Sacred Sword without losing half its health. As a mon without reliable recovery, this makes the big blue boy more a check than a counter.
