Notable level up moves:

Silver wind
Stun spore
Sleep powder
Bug buzz
Psychic
Quiver dance

Notable tm moves:

Sludge bomb
Energy ball

Notable egg moves:

Agility
Baton pass
Signal beam
Giga drain

While venomoth seem like another mediocre bug, it gained a terrific move like the other moths and butterflies: quiver dance. As one of the three with access
to baton pass and quiver dance (smeargle, masquerain), he has a niche as a superb baton passer. His ability tinted lens also makes it a super power sweeper, just like yanmega.

Sets

Quiver passer

Venomoth@focus sash
Trait: tinted lens
Timid 252hp 4defense 252speed
-sleep powder
-quiver dance
-baton pass
-bug buzz

Sleep powder first, quiver second for a long time, pass, and sweep.
Good recipients include yanmega, mix sharpedo, honchkrow, porygon-z, alakazam.

Quiver sweeper

Venomoth@life orb
Trait: Tinted lens
Timid 4hp 252special attack 252speed
-sleep powder/giga drain
-quiver dance
-bug buzz
-psychic/sludge bomb

Many people expect venomoth to be a baton passer, but it can also be a fearsome sweeper. It has unresisted coverage with bug buzz and psychic (thanks to tinted lens) and can hit very hard. Giga drain allows it to heal back health while sludge bomb is secondary stab.

The quiver dance sweeper is pretty scary. More scary than yanmega. that's saying something

I'm of the opinion that any set that uses Quiver Dance should have Baton Pass on it as well. Having unresisted coverage with Bug Buzz and Psychic is all well and good, but how often will Psychic or Sludge Bomb will get you past a situation where Tinted Lens Bug Buzz or Sleep Powder wouldn't ?

sleep powder + dance + bug buzz and then a move, just wrecks everythingexcept for walls like munchlax (sleeptalking one)

I remember reach using a sleep talking venomoth set with QD/Bug Buzz. Bc of tinted lens it doesn't have coverage issues and it messes up stuff that tries to ko it before it's boosted. Idk the evs but I remember it beasting a lot of teams. Having a good sleep absorber in this meta is really helpful too.

Mention the poison typing, as toxic spikes are pretty common and picking them up is great team support.

I am curious why Psychic would be used over Sludge Bomb on the sweeper set. I am fairly certain that with Tinted Lens, both moves provide perfect neutral coverage in RU, and while Psychic might get a few super effective hits more, Sludge Bomb gets STAB and in general is more powerful.

More tintel lens boosts just makes it hit like a neutral attack, so yh, sludge bomb would be better, but im guessing it has sth to do with 4X resists (like aggron)

Because sludge bomb is only SE on grass which bug covers. The only thing it hits is moltres (golbat, charizard, emboar, drifblim for completeness), or if you need status. I'd put giga drain over both though, to hit quaggy. It has essentially unresisted stab though, so going for SE hits is useful.

edit: Aggron gets hit neutrally by bug buzz

please dont go to UU :(

@nails

maybe the sleep talk set was volcarona-esque?

venomoth@leftovers
ability: tinted lens
trait: bold
252 hp 252 def 4 sp. def
-rest
-sleep talk
-quiver dance
-bug buzz/signal beam

why signal beam you ask?
mr. mime is everywhere. idk why

Signal beam might actually be useful...If only to not be walled by Electrode trying to set up rain (Fuck Static, Soundproof lets it check Yanmega)

Venomoth is so annoying >.>

I'm running Insomnia Honchkrow just for this thing (and Roost). Otherwise, Sleep Powder + Quiver Dance + Baton Pass = sweep

I feel like I need to mention the set that won me about 2/3 of my matches (that's saying a lot coming from the #1 on the ladder). Here it is.

Venomoth (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Tinted Lens
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Sleep Powder
- Quiver Dance
- Roost
- Bug Buzz
This set may seems weird at first but it's actually quite good. You would be surprised at how bulky it is. The goal behind this set is to get as many quiver dance as possible and then destroy everything with tinted lens bug buzz. I put roost on it because it already has great coverage with only one attack thanks to tinted lens.

Yes! Physically bulky moth is amazing. It can set up on more pokes and also can come in on weak physical attacks (especially fighting) and maintain momentum by putting something to sleep.
