Resource VGC: Ask a Simple Question, Get a Simple Answer

Thanks! I'd love to post it there, but I've been looking through the guidelines, and it looks like it's mostly for completed teams. I'm honestly struggling a bit with fleshing it out, and I've tried a ton of different combinations; some of them are strong, but not quite there. And the changes aren't likely to be minute EV changes, but to use different pokemon or sets entirely. I can post the version I'm using now, though, and hopefully I can still get some feedback :)
oh ye totally dont be intimidated by those 2100 ELO #1 PEAK RMTs! there is a lovely community of vgc raters

Okay so im struggling building a decent mega ampharos team. I have my trick room setter as farigaraf, with mega ampharos and slowking-g and mamoswine. Ive tried running lightning rod manetric and raichu wasn't great. I even tried plus minus ampharos and manetric. The current roster does not make this easy. Any suggestions? Oh and im running incin as well

Sadly Mega Ampharos is just outclassed. As a Trick Room mega, Camerupt, Crabominable, Drampa and even Abomasnow are all better.

Its so sad. Ive spent weeks trying to get a viable mega ampharos team and its just not working super great. As far as drampa goes speed swap alakazam with drampa is a pretty viable and fun pairing.

I dont normally run trick room its just the only way mega amp is rlly useful in any form. I also rlly like parabolic charge, and not many viable pokemon get that.

If you really want to do parabolic charge shenenigans, there is a (very niche and not really good but at least viable) combo people do on ladder with Bellibolt, as it's chonky enough to eat a hit and fire back a boosted parabolic charge.
I've ran into it a few times, usually it was near a Garchomp or otherwise common pokemon, and i'm not sure what the specifics are, moreso since I tend to run setups that just stomp on it, but it's the only case of that move specifically i've seen used.

What are some good ways to check Staraptor in Champions? My guess is that Aegislash is the most reliable one, but obviously not every team can fit an Aegislash.

M-Meta, Electric-types, a supported Floette, etc. Plenty of options.

Any suggestions on how Volcarona could be used?
If you want to use Volcarona in doubles, you have the option to use it as Rage Powder redirector that actually poses a threat rather than being mostly passive and that also sorta walls Floette.
You don't really get many options to click Quiver Dance, between the rock slide spam and rain being so common and threatening both water and hurricane hits into Volc, but the *threat* of it is still good to have in the rare cases you get a favourable matchup, and the Flame Body chance is a decent-ish deterrent for physical attackers (but I don't know if trading your volc for 30% to burn a mega-staraptor is worth it).
Works better in Bo1s since there's the surprise factor of not knowing what you actually have on the moth.

There was only a single Volcarona at NAIC due to how hostile the MA metagame was to it, and MB is looking even worse, but if you want a starting point, they used a full support set (EVs unknown, but possibly 32 speed with likely enough defense to survive a non-LO garchomp rock slide).

Volcarona @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Flame Body
Timid Nature
- Overheat
- Struggle Bug
- Rage Powder
- Tailwind

Do not expect to be able to pull QD shenenigans consistently in current metagame. Between the rock slides, rain everywhere, and staraptor being super common, you're not getting the setup chances.

Cybertron built a team around Mega Ampharos.
