VGC'13 Team

I know that the title says VGC'13 Team. I personally think that the rules will be the same. If they are'nt they might do something like allowing only Pokemon in the Black and White 2 pokedex's, that just eliminates Gengar. Anyway I know my team focuses a lot on attacking, but I also have a few things to trip up people like Accelgor with Yawn.

Accelgor-252 SpAtk/4 SpDef/252 Spd
Item: Grass Gem
Ability: Hydration
Nature: Mild

Energy Ball
Bug Buzz
Yawn
Protect

Grass Gem gives it almost STAB Energy Ball which helps to counter rain teams which are very common. Accelgor is the perfect counter to Latios which is just destroys at the VGC. Plus it's my favorite Pokemon.

Arcanine-4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Item: Fire Gem
Ability: Intimidate
Nature: Jolly

ExtremeSpeed
Flare Blitz
Close Combat
Protect

Arcanine is my team's fire type. Allows my Metagross to carry Earthquake, and not Hammer Arm.

Gengar-252 SpAtk/4 SpDef/252 Spd
Item: Life Orb
Ability:Levitate
Nature: Hasty

Thunderbolt
Shadow Ball
Sludge Bomb
Protect

Gengar is a great sweeper. It has a good movepool for type coverage. STAB Shadow Ball + Sludge Bomb = Awesome. Life Orb enhances it's power. Just an average Life Orb Gengar.

Lickilicky-252 HP/20 Def/220 SpAtk/16 SpDef
Item: Zoom Lens
Ability: Cloud Nine
Nature: Relaxed

Thunder
Muddy Water
Blizzard
Sunny Day

Lickilicky is my major counter to weather. Sun teams are not to common at the VGC so I gave it Sunny Day to disrupt Sandstorm and Rain. (in case they withdraw Politoed, Tyranitar, or use Sandstorm/Rain Dance) Relaxed nature + low speed means it will be slower than tons of Pokemon. Which allows Zoom Lens to activate which makes Thunder, and Blizzard to boost to 84 accuracy. It also allows Muddy Water to boost to over 100% accuracy.

Metagross-252 HP/252 Atk/4 Def
Item: Occa Berry
Ability: Clear Body
Nature: Adamant

Bullet Punch
Meteor Mash
Earthquake
Protect

Metagross is a great defensive Pokemon. It has great attack, which allows it to deal major damage before fainting. Protect can save it from fainting while I take the threat out with another Pokemon. One reason all my Pokemon (except Lickilicky) have Protect is to dodge Earthquake.

Umbreon-200 HP/8 Atk/80 Def/220 SpDef
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
Nature: Careful

Curse
Payback
Helping Hand
Protect

Umbreon is essentially my wall. It has a somewhat crazy EV spread, but it all pays off because Curse and Payback is one of the best combos. Helping Hand will help other Pokemon like Gengar or Metagross to dish off major damage. Protect is there to regain some HP from Leftovers, without sacrificing a move for Moonlight.

Read through the RMT rules, your team needs descriptions (at least a few sentences for each Pokémon describing why you chose it and its set, how it works with the rest of your team, etc.). I'd also suggest not investing too much into a team for next year already, since we don't know what the rules will be yet - they've been different every year so far.

If VGC13 is rotation battles, you'll be all like "What?"...

And it needs more description. I see a grand total of 1 spread move, so if VGCs is doubles or triples you're in deep trouble.

If your opponent uses rain dance, they're going to be prepared for your hydropump. :/ Seems like a weak thing to say that you can "build off of it"

Finally, you have protect on every fricking pokemon, which leads me to believe you're either running your team as a rather poor stall team, what with no notable status, or you don't know what protect is for. :/

I strongly doubt VGC'13 will be anything other than Double Battles. I also have Protect on every Pokemon because at my experience at the VGC Protect got me a lot of wins. You are right that I don't have enough spread moves. Thank you for your critisim.

Not to be mean, but you are making a team for a metagame that does not even currently exist. It is silly to ask for advice on your team because we have no idea what is allowed next year: for all you know, it could be like VGC 2010 with Ubers in which a Choice Scarf Kyogre would single handily destroy your team. Please wait until VGC 2013 rules are announced, then make a team for it.

I don't VGC 2013 is going to be all doubles again, they wouldn't do the same metagame in 2 years. Like others said, just be patient and wait for next years rules to be announced.

You're talking about an unknown format for no apparent reason. If you're assuming it's doubles, fine. But you need more spread moves in doubles. In triples, Wide Guard might be worth metagaming against, but it's not worth metagaming against in doubles.

And Protect doesn't get you wins. It gets you "not loses". What are you using Protect for? Stalling TR? Leftovers recovery? Stalling for toxic damage? Hurting Hi Jump Kick users?

I would advocate more fake out too. Fake out is sometimes a wide guard, sometimes a protect, but almost always damage.

The metagame has been different every year (non-Ubers, then everything except event mons, then Unova only, then non-Ubers with Unova added), so you have a point there, and I agree that it's too early to make a team for that reason. But it has been doubles each of those years, and I don't see that changing since we've now had two years of continued doubles since triples/rotation were introduced.

I'm not sure what you're talking about, Protect is an incredibly useful move in doubles and pretty much anything that isn't running a Choice set and can spare the move slot should run it.
