Fire Fist Ace's Mega-Lucario

If Mold Breaker didn't ignore Moody I would've submitted Excadrill, but Aura-Sphere Mega-Lucario I feel is the primary method of checking Moody Glalie.

cant say's gengar

even if eq glalie gets a lucky swords dance boost you still have a good chance of living. perish trapper gengar is probably my favorite memebreaker

Congratulations to cant say for winning VoTW 20 (Glalie) with your submission of Mega-Gengar! Your post will be logged into the archive.
Victim of the week #21 - Blaziken + Mega-Blaziken

It'd be stupid of me to not put both of these in the same VoTW edition. Blaziken is an absolute powerhouse in the metagame. The combination of speed boost + swords dance + great offensive typing makes Blaziken an incredible wallbreaker, capable of defeating most fat builds single handed. Common sets include mixed life orb, swords dance + STABS, baton pass, sash, and mega evolution. Most definitely a huge metagame threat which many teams straight out lose to. So, How do you stop Blaziken / Blaziken-Mega?
Submissions are open and will be closed in four days from now. Best of luck everyone!

Primarina @ Focus Sash
Ability: Torrent
Level: 50
EVs: 156 HP / 100 Def / 252 SpA
Modest Nature
- Sparkling Aria
- Moonblast
- Perish Song
- Aqua Jet

Good check to the flaming chicken. Even though Prima can be beaten by Bloom Doom and some physical Z-move sets (or even +2 Z-Flare Blitz), Focus Sash ensures its survival even against those sets, allowing Prima to OHKO Blaziken with Sparkling Aria.

Salamence @ Salamencite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 244 HP / 4 Atk / 4 Def / 228 SpD / 28 Spe
Careful Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Facade / Return
- Earthquake
- Roost

Realistically lives any hit Blaziken and Mega Blaziken can throw at it at full health and can either take the opportunity to set up on it a little bit (depends on the set) or just get rid of the chicken entirely. There's a reason why most non-HP Ice Blaziken teams run a check to Mega Mence. I don't think I need to put any calcs for this one

Defensive Arcanine is an underrated Pokemon in BSS and she makes for an excellent check to non-SD variants of Blaziken, being able to cut its attack, stall it out with contact damage and negate its Speed boosts with priority all in one slot. The first spread is something I use to outspeed Breloom (because fuck Breloom), but max Defense is a great option as well. The biggest risk to Arcanine is Adamant LO HJK, which has a chance to 2HKO even after Intimidate regardless of the spread, but that can easily be played around by pivoting to a Ghost-type or a Protect user. Or, of course, you could be a lord and run Protect on Arcanine instead.

-1 252+ Atk Life Orb Blaziken High Jump Kick vs. 252 HP / 192+ Def Arcanine: 87-105 (44.1 - 53.2%) -- 26.6% chance to 2HKO

Let's see how dominant this chicken is in rain...

Pelipper @ Damp Rock / Focus Sash
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump / Scald
- Hurricane
- Ice Beam / Roost
- U-turn

Automatic rain halves 'ken's Fire-type moves. Pelipper resists Fighting also thanks to its part-Flying typing. 100% accurate Hurricane and Rain-boosted Scald are a surefire KO. Ice Beam and U-turn are used to hit Blaziken's switch ins, the former giving a possible freeze chance while the latter giving their team momentum. Roost could be used to recover health once 'ken goes down, but be wary of Fighting-type moves if 'ken stays in.

As the calcs show below, 'ken struggles vs Pelipper even without rain.

252+ SpA Pelipper Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Blaziken: 222-264 (143.2 - 170.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Pelipper Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Blaziken: 162-192 (104.5 - 123.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Blaziken Flare Blitz vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pelipper: 48-57 (35.5 - 42.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 Atk Blaziken Flare Blitz vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pelipper in Rain: 24-28 (17.7 - 20.7%) -- possible 5HKO
252 Atk Blaziken High Jump Kick vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pelipper: 52-62 (38.5 - 45.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Tapu Fini @ Aguav Berry

EVs: 252 HP / 196 Def / 36 SpA / 4 SpD / 20 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

Fini works well to beat the speedy chicken, since it resists both of Blaziken's STABS and can tank hits like a champ. The EV spread allows Fini to outspeed 4 speed Rotoms and increase the chance of Fini OHKOing Blaziken. The rest is dumped into bulk to help Fini tank hits.

Offensive Calcs:
36 SpA Tapu Fini Surf vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Blaziken: 134-162 (86.4 - 104.5%) -- 25% chance to OHKO
(vs Mixed) 36 SpA Tapu Fini Surf vs. 0 HP / 0- SpD Blaziken: 152-180 (98 - 116.1%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO
(vs Mega) 36 SpA Tapu Fini Surf vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Blaziken: 122-146 (78.7 - 94.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Defensive Calcs:
(vs Mega) 252+ Atk Mega Blaziken Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 196 Def Tapu Fini: 49-58 (27.6 - 32.7%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

(vs Special Z-move) 252+ SpA Blaziken Inferno Overdrive (185 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Fini: 61-72 (34.4 - 40.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Why simply beat Blaziken 1v1 when you can use it to set-up all over it? Shouldn't get 2HKOed after getting the Kee Berry boost so you heal up and Minimize until it's safe to Calm Mind, then you sweep.

Was going to nominate Chandelure but Stone Edge is a thing.

doesn't fear blaziken's stabs. doesn't even fear lo tpunch without a swords dance behind it, but you can't switch in and counter if it goes tpunch on the switch
-1 252 Atk Life Orb Blaziken Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gyarados: 120-146 (59.4 - 72.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
it also fears sd continental crush but even then, only if it sd's on the switch
-1 252 Atk Blaziken Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gyarados: 108-128 (53.4 - 63.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

after one contact move, regular blaze is donezo; and so is mega blaze (2 layers of spikes is the best estimate for rh damage i could find)
0 Atk Gyarados Waterfall vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Blaziken: 146-174 (94.1 - 112.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO after 2 layers of Spikes
0 Atk Gyarados Waterfall vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Blaziken-Mega: 132-156 (85.1 - 100.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO after 2 layers of Spikes

i've used more max bulk gyaras since i have literally seen 2 cresselias both on tr this gen, so i figured i wouldn't waste bulk outspeeding 4 speed cress
tfw everything nominated loses to Thunder Punch (or z solar beam)

Clefable @ Kee Berry

Bold Nature

Why simply beat Blaziken 1v1 when you can use it to set-up all over it? Shouldn't get 2HKOed after getting the Kee Berry boost so you heal up and Minimize until it's safe to Calm Mind, then you sweep.

Was going to nominate Chandelure but Stone Edge is a thing.
Blaziken can very nearly find it's way through anything with the right moves. Thankfully M-Altaria Latias can effectively deal with all common varients and then some.

Latias has quite a wide movepool to fill out those last two slots in a way which suits the team. Options including Thunder Wave, Toxic, Healing Wish, Ice Beam, Roar, Screens and so on.
Could even slap Safety Goggles on it if you're feeling Loom/Venu weak.
Physical
252+ Atk Life Orb Blaziken High Jump Kick vs. 252 HP / 212+ Def Latias: 60-71 (32 - 37.9%) -- 2.6% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252+ Atk Blaziken Inferno Overdrive (190 BP) vs. 252 HP / 212+ Def Latias: 135-159 (72.1 - 85%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Special
252+ SpA Life Orb Blaziken Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Latias: 73-86 (39 - 45.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

like I said in my post, pretty much everything nominated loses to Thunder Punch and Z Solar Beam. Although those are niche they are very viable, so I can't vote for any of them. I'm torn between Jhon's and GateCreeper's nominations, but since I've used SpD Mence quite a bit and know how well it can deal with Blaziken I'm gonna have to go with GateCreeper.

I'm going with Jhon's Latias for this one.

Salamence is an awesome mon, but this one doesn't take over 50% from HP Ice (which is even more common then the niche but viable Z-Moves cant say mentioned), allowing Latias to come in on Blaze and beat it if needed.

I'm going to vote for ThickFatAzumarill's Primarina. As far as me running any of these on a team to help against Blaziken I would go for Primarina or Fini, and at this point in time I'm liking Primarina more. Even if it dies to electrium or grassium those are uncommon enough to still warrant a vote. (Also I've never seen a Latias in battle spot)
