Submitting Corsola as a defensive CHECK. Rocky Helmet Physdef Corsola can generally 1v1 Swords Dance Silvally-Ice. Icevally needs to set up to +4 before Multi-Attack is a 2HKO, and Corsola can fish for Scald burns while chipping down Icevally. A cycle of Substitute to set up a Swords Dance more safely also will not work, as Silvally-Ice will be at 50% after 2 Swords Dances, and then take Rocky Helmet chip three times (50%) if the Corsola user Recovers each time, knocking out Silvally-Ice and ending with Corsola at 64% at the very VERY worst. If this cycle has a third Swords Dance, ending with the Silvally-Ice user at 25%, Silvally-Ice will simply go down the following turn with Rocky Helmet and Scald chip. Corsola has a number of benefits over other checks: setting hazards prevents Silvally-Ice from having as many setup opportunities, Corsola often gets to remain healthy throughout a battle thanks to Regenerator, Corsola is not entirely passive thanks in part to Scald, and Corsola's reliable recovery also reduces its passivity and does not risk a gamble on Sleep Talk or sleep turns.

Checks
Corsola - 5
Sudowoodo - 1

Counters
Pyukumuku - 3
Slowpoke - 3

The next victim will be released on Monday morning instead of right now as to get back into a weekly schedule routine. Also hi I've taken over the forum from cheezy for the foreseeable future and will not tolerate girls fighting in the comments about what is and what isn't a check/counter

Pyukumuku is also now banned from votw due to it's ability to counter most of the meta in a similar vein to Shedinja which goes against the aims of votw. Votw should be about trying to develop the metagame by exploring new checks and counters for troublesome and arguably banworthy mons in the current meta

Pokémon A checks Pokémon B if, when Pokémon A is given a free switch into Pokémon B, Pokémon A can win every time, even under the worst case scenario, without factoring in hax.
Pokémon A counters Pokémon B if Pokémon A can manually switch into Pokémon B and still win every time, even under the worst case scenario, without factoring in hax.

Stall gourg is a counter as it easily jumps in on falinks and totally obliterates it with leech seed+will-o-wisp+the life orb recoil it keeps getting. Also it uses synthesis as and when it wants.

+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Falinks Throat Chop vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Colbur Berry Gourgeist-Large: 97-116 (27.4 - 32.7%) {at this point gourgeist uses will-o-wisp and then next turn it uses leech seed. so falinks gets 28% damage each turn from burn+leech seed+life orb. also gourg can do: Foul Play 25.8 - 30.6%
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Falinks Throat Chop vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gourgeist-Large: 195-231 (55 - 65.2%){tho this calc is basically irrelevant as, at the turn of first throat chop that uses colbur berry, falinks isburned with will-o-wisp that is basically same damage as with colburcontinues}

Vespiquen is a counter. It can come in and take every attack by the rare rock slide which isnt listed. Air slash 2hkoes even after No Retreat Spdef boost.

+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Falinks Throat Chop vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Vespiquen: 110-131 (32 - 38.1%) -- 95.7% chance to 3HKO

P.S 1: Finding counters for this mon has made me conclude that it is completely busted. Ban Falinks.

scarf mime is an offensive check. you are faster with a scarf than adamant falinks after a no retreat and have a chance to ohko with its +1 spdef boost. if it hasnt boosted yet, you will always ohko. you can also live every hit that falinks can dish out, including poison jab, thanks to filter. jab can only ohko at +1.

Mareanie @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Toxic Spikes
- Knock Off
- Recover
- Haze

I'd say that Haze Mareanie is a counter to No Retreat Falinks, but there are some stipulations here.
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Falinks Zen Headbutt vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Mareanie: 203-239 (66.9 - 78.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Zen Headbutt will 2HKO even after the Haze, meaning it won't be able to stay in. However, a Falinks that is forced to stay in and cannot boost again can be pretty vulnerable, and actually can become setup fodder itself to some sweepers like Dubwool, Silvally-Bug, and Galarian Rapidash. If your team can't afford these, at least Mareanie can pivot out, recover its health with Regenerator, and then hard wall out Fallinks whilst securing Toxic Spikes if you wanted. The biggest issue here is the reliance on switching out after the first Haze, and also the notably high chance of 20% for Zen Headbutt to flinch Mareanie. Ultimately though, Mareanie is still one of the best mons for Fallinks counterplay, and takes advantage of it well enough for me consider it a counter.

Also risin_glory I'd consider reevaluating your Gourg nomination as a counter! Considering it can always switch in, burn, and recover on Falinks, that's a sure fire way of dealing with it and preventing it from sweeping. It's even better than Mareanie, as it can afford to stay in on the burned Falinks and recover. Also like Mareanie, the trapped and burned Falinks may also become setup fodder for some sweepers, which is a huge plus.

I like the effort and the creativity but as Mareanie needs a free switch and cannot switch in manually in order to use haze it is a check not a counter

Wobbuffet @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Telepathy
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Counter
- Destiny Bond
- Mirror Coat
- Charm

A shitmon, but it's a "check" nonetheless. Shadow Tag may be banned, but Falinks traps itself when using No Retreat lmao. Wobbuffet easily tanks +1 Throat Chop and KOes in return with Counter. Charm can also be used to debuff Falinks's Attack stat if you predict they'll just keep using other attacks besides Throat Chop.
Nominations must be on the VR which Wobbuffet is not. Also Failinks has Defiant so charm does not lower its attack

1 252 Atk Life Orb Falinks Throat Chop vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Dusclops: 114-135 (40.2 - 47.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Switch in on any move, Will O Wisp then Rest and Sleep Talk away. Once the Burn is set up its all safe but if there are a lot of hazards in play and he's already set up then you can get unlucky, but even in the worst scenario you survive to Burn him which makes him very manageable for the rest of your team, if not set up bait for some mons. For these reasons he is a Defensive Counter.

Will O wisp is probably the best move for Falinks, in case of horrendous crit luck, but Toxic is better for some threats and Infestation can be fun against some other mons. Lol forgot Life Orb in my calcs this things busted.

Doesn't matter for Falinks but Seismic Toss is walled by Ghosts, whilst Night Shade is walled by Normals, pick your poison.

Neat mon, look out for Knock Off and Trick and he's very reliable. Likes Silvally as a partner for that reason.
Dusclops cannot manually switch in as it has a chance to get 2hitkoed by throat chop so is a check not a counter
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb Falinks Throat Chop vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Dusclops: 125-148 (44.1 - 52.2%) -- 16.4% chance to 2HKO
