Media Videogame Thread

Recently got back into BotW and my word it still holds up. 100%’d it ghis time after a few weeks. Undecided whether to now go for a 100% Master Mode or properly delve into TotK. Never properly got into or completed the game for various irl reasons.

It depends on how much of Botw you've been playing as to whether or not to pick up Totk tbh. The games, while phenomenal, are too similar to play back to back imo, you'll just get burned out with Totk if you've been playing a lot of Botw. I would do Master Mode and then let it simmer for a bit before diving into Totk, at least a few months if not a year.

Speaking of BotW…

The first thing any of the Kardashians have ever done to interest me.

Trying to figure out if I should be pleased that even Kylie Jenner loves BotW or saddened that I love something Kylie Jenner loves. Leaning towards the former for the moment.

Found some waaaaaaayyyyyy not-cool implications in Pokémon designs recently and am doing my due diligence here. If you're a practicing Christian, you might be better off ditching this franchise full-stop and tossing out all of the other occult-ridden stuff you might own or keep online. Nintendo is pretty heavy on this stuff, from what I've seen, too, so beware.

God bless you all, and Christ be with you.

For real or are you joking?

What the H E double hockey sticks

I think the arguments of occult imagery in popular media doesn't make sense because the Bible itself depicts a lot of occultism and is the reason why Baal, Baphomet, Beelzebub and all these dorks are still known. Like if the Torah didn't say their names, we wouldn't even know them anymore. And there are still rituals and places associated with them in the middle east and in abrahamic religions. If Pokemans depicts occultism (which it doesn't), why wouldn't the same argument be levied against the Old Testament, Torah and the Quaran?

Not sure what the "due diligence" is apart from posting obvious rage-bait tbh. Deck Knight is long gone from these forums, you no longer have much for "good company" around here.

I say this with some respect because I know you and we used to shoot the shit and work on things back in the BW UU/DPP days, but "read the room" my guy

I won't ridicule you because I respect taking religion seriously because if nothing else it shows commitment to something outside of yourself. Most games in Japan mishmash a bunch of different religious traditions together because they see it as cool and don't take anything outside of superstitions of their own seriously, and even the companies they make fun of their own as well.

The thing that makes Pokemon so cool though is that a lot of their games are just about animals with cool designs messing around. Pokemon Ranger and Pokemon Snap are just about people doing their jobs preserving wildlife and those are some of the best titles anyways.

Mina the Hollower

Early impressions (-ish, I'm like half way through I think): It's definitely not a 10/10. Let's just get that out of the way. It's a great game, no doubt. Probably an 8 pushing 9. Yacht Club know what they're doing. But in their commitment to doing an intentional "downgrade" 8-bit style Link's Awakening-esque game, there's quite a few ires I have with the game overall that I feel could have been changed for QoL purposes that really wouldn't have affected the overall "feel" of the game but would greatly affect the gameplay.

The biggest and most obvious gripe to me is the inability to turn mid-air. Now, for anybody that's played any Metroidvania or Soulsvania can tell you, being able to bait flying enemies and rotate-strike them is about the only sane way to progress through these kinds of games. Well, for some God-forsaken reason, you can't do that here. And the main antagonist through the story, and several enemies and bosses to boot, are flying enemies, while you're a grounded mouse whose whole schtick is the ability to burrow. I.. it's definitely something.

My other main issue is, while art direction is gorgeous on the whole, it is FAR too busy, with each zelda-like "frame" having too many "layers" (high rooftop 1, lower rooftop 2, groundfloor, bridge, water underneath, all on the same "frame") with your vertically challenged mouse unable to traverse much of the world at most times, and it being very hard to tell which ledges you CAN jump and which ledges you CAN'T, because there actually are some you can. Which, again... was a choice.

All that said, the exploration, music, and story so far have been fantastic. The platforming is very good despite the busyness. The combat is very difficult, reaching on just being frustrating rather than satisfying like Hollow Knight or Silksong.

I had an issue with the demo that the art style could be so busy that I occasionally lost track of Mina and had trouble with telling depth and what the layers of a screen were. The devs definitely could have done with a bit more restraint. It's still a beautiful game, though. I grew up with the GBC as my first real video game device, so I kind of adore this particular throwback.

i have been interested in mina, but I must admit that i have no nostalgia for the gb/gbc era, so games that are retro in that way tend to be less appealing to me. Theres just too many limitations and concessions that take away from good gameplay for me, same with the art style

It would be hyperbole for me to say that Rayman Legends Retold is making me feel the same frustrated bewilderment everyone else felt towards Star Fox '26 but it's definitely a confounding release. The whole atmosphere of Castle Rock kinda got fried

Hey, if starving Rayman fans are happy with this, then good for them

Waddup y'all?

In today's Xbox Showcase, Atlus has decided to serve a double whammy of Persona.

The modern remake of Persona 4, known as Persona 4 Revival, which was teased last year, is being released in February 2027. As you can guess from the trailer, like Persona 3 Reload, Persona 4 Revival is completely overhauling the English voice cast from ground up, though this time the identities of the new English voice actors are not yet known.

Persona 6 has also been officially revealed! Its color scheme is green, and like P3 Reload and P4 Revival, it's a Day One Game Pass release! It seems to have some horror and urban legend elements to it, we'll see how that goes!

Looks like 2026-2027 is a 2023-2024 Round 2! Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor: ReFantazio revealed in June 2023, and Persona 4 Revival and Persona 6 revealed in June 2026! Two remakes and two big titles, one of a brand new IP by the old Persona team, and another a brand new Persona entry after so long.

It's been a long wait, but Persona 5's reign in the spotlight is finally coming to an end.

The number one thing that I wanna see from the new Spyro that I really think would meaningfully juice up sales is incorporating Skylanders characters and other content. No doubt it would alienate a certain subset of veteran fans but on the other hand there are millions with nostalgia and fond memories of begging their parents to buy them all the toys. I'm one of them!

Been awhile since I actually fully completed a game (let alone an RPG), so I figured I should post about it.

I definitely recommend Sea of Stars! It’s an RPG very much inspired by Chrono Trigger and I think the developers did a really good job at capturing that spirit in the game. Looks great (for the most part, some animated cutscenes seemed a bit off because of the difference in art style from the actual game but like I said mostly great), sounds great (def some earworms in the soundtrack). The combat is really good, and by the end of the game it really makes you think and you feel smart when you break the bosses’ “locks” and prevent them from getting their turn. I think the story is pretty compelling too, I def got a little lost once or twice because my reading comprehension isn’t great apparently lol but it’s definitely one that’ll stick with me.

As far as what it means to “complete” the game, I did all the content that is available on one file. Technically I did not 100% it, because there are some co-op only feats/achievements. There’s also one where you have to beat 10 bosses with a certain relic on, so many people think you need a new game + file to get this one but apparently if you do the true final boss ten times with the relic on you can still get it. And I ain’t doing a new game + run right away and I’m not doing the final boss ten times either. So yes, didn’t 100% the game but saw everything there is to see because there’s no extra reward for getting 100%, just the true ending (which is worth it, it’s a super cute wrap up to the story and I was very thorough before I got to the first ending so getting the true ending was only an extra three or so hours).

The other thing of note is that I guess I technically did a challenge run. I played on normal difficulty, one step below the hardest, but I realized when I was like ten hours in that I hadn’t used any items or relics that made the game easier. So I challenged myself to go the rest of the way itemless and relicless and I did it! My only regret is that I didn’t have a fully flawless run, I game overed four times on the true final boss before I made it on the fifth try. I was really kicking myself because each game over was absolutely my fault (healing the wrong character by accident, choosing the wrong special by accident, etc., little mistakes can sometimes snowball on the true final boss).

My biggest complaint is probably post-final boss actually (or you can consider it part of the final boss because for the true final boss it is part of it as well):

The whole game is a turn-based RPG with action/timing commands. But suddenly post-final boss (against the World Eater) and in the true final boss there’s random bullet hell sections? Felt very random to me and I actually died twice in these sections. Luckily the deaths in these sections don’t give you a game over but it comes out of nowhere and it’s not exactly clear what the controls are (you have a shield which I wasn’t aware of at first and would’ve probably prevented some deaths in the bullet hell sections).

Anyway, like I said, definitely recommend Sea of Stars. It’s worth getting the true ending and only took me 43 hours which is short for an RPG, though I was a bit slow at times (especially on one certain block puzzle lol) so if you play it to completion I’d probably expect 40-45 hours. If you want the true 100% experience obviously it’ll be a bit longer.

Finally, there’s free DLC coming soon! Idk if there’s an exact release date yet but I heard Spring 2025. So I’ll most likely be coming back to the game soon for that. Had lots of fun and I’m sure you will too.

Final verdict: 8/10
Sea of Stars came out on Switch 2 today! If you bought it on Switch 1 it’s a 100% free download with save transfer. Great game, highly recommend. I still haven’t played the DLC yet though whoops.

nintendo needs to standardize how they do the switch 2 eshop version stuff because it's really confusing imo

im worried because i would prefer to play these big jrpgs on switch 2 for handheld, but they haven't listed them as platforms which uhhh uh oh

with 4 specifically honestly, depending on how june 18th goes with the extra gameplay i might just grab persona 4 golden tbh, since it feels like this is less a reimagining such as P3R, and more a one-to-one remake not sure if anyone agrees

p4g also just has aged well

im really hype for persona 6, i was really worried the game would kinda just coast off of 5 and be similar but from the teaser it already feels really different

im know I'm late to (replying to) the party but: crimson desert - super fun but simultaneously eff you lol I hate air bound puzzles cus even if I know the solution I hate being pressed for time (unless I'm back in high school working on an essay for class lol)

I seen the new fable coming out and a new middle earth game in years to come, that's exciting too. we need a new fable for 1) and 2) we need a true big world Lord of the rings based rpg finally, bout damn time lol (LotR game being made by who makes Kingdom Come Deliverance (still need to play those games but know theyre high regarded)

wheres the new Jet Set Radio Future?

I don’t know when this news broke exactly, but I’ve come to the discovery today that GTA 6 is going to launch at $80 with a $100 Ultimate Edition and that there will be only digital copies of this game. Supposedly, this is because the game is too large to fit on a standard optical disc, but the fact remains that if you buy a “physical copy” of this game, all you’re getting is a download code. Oh, and the Online Mode and Story Mode are going to be sold separately, which I believe was the case with GTA 5 as well.

In an effort to help stop the spread of misinformation on the Internet, yes, this is incredibly scummy and sets a dangerous precedent but there is no reason to believe at this time that this was influenced by the $80 price tag of Mario Kart World or any other external factors. There are also reportedly retailers now refusing to sell GTA 6 on launch due to the lack of a physical version but I cannot verify if this is true and how widespread this sentiment actually is. Many people have already pre-ordered the game digitally and while I don’t necessarily think the game is going to flop, I do expect this to significantly underperform compared to GTA 5 in large part due to the current state of the economy. GTA 5 sold as well as it did in large part because it was on so many different systems, and affordability talks in the current market. Not to mention, people really want their physical games.
