Both are also capable of taking advantage of Heatran, while Gliscor also exploits Toxapex, which are two of the best checks to Volcarona. Strong wallbreakers such as the aforementioned Gliscor, as well as the likes of Hydreigon, Kartana, Excadrill, and Mega Mawile, are great teammates as well, since they are able to overwhelm the opposition to the extent where Volcarona can clean up late-game. A defensive backbone is definitely useful for offensive volc teams because it loses much of its defensive utility, but not necessarily for priority users because they should be removed beforehand anyway. emphasize the removal of said priority users and have the defensive backbone section focus on Volc's rather mediocre bulk. Due to Volcarona’s lack of recovery and mediocre bulk when utilizing this set, a defensive backbone allows Volcarona to stay safe, and defend against and remove priority users before Volcarona attempts to win. Split this into two points; mention removing priority users either by slowly chipping them down with both offensive and defensive options. This makes it sound like the defensive core is the only way to remove the priority users, which isn't the case. Tapu Fini is another great choice, as it is able to check Ash-Greninja and non-Grassium Z Heatran, cripple Toxapex with Knock Off, inviting Grass-types examples please in as setup fodder for Volcarona, and provides a status immunity allowing it to set up more easily.

Thanks to its good bulk, decent Speed tier, (AC) and great STAB combination, Volcarona is a potent set up setup sweeper. Bulky Volcarona is also able to check a plethora of prominent Pokemon such as Kyurem, Hydreigon, Calm Mind Clefable, Magearna, and Mega Scizor and Mega Mawile without lacking Knock Off. Flamethrower is chosen over Fiery Dance and Fire Blast as Volcarona’s Fire-type STAB move due to its higher PP and 100% perfect accuracy. Roost allows Volcarona to stay healthy throughout the match, lets it continue to check threats such as Hydreigon, Magearna, and Kyurem, and also makes it harder to revenge kill. Heavy-Duty Boots is the item of choice, (AC) as it removes Volcarona's crippling weakness to Stealth Rock and other entry hazards. Flame Body allows Volcarona to potentially burn Pokemon using contact moves and Pokemon that try to pick it off with priority such as Mega Lopunny. Maximum HP EVs investment allows Volcarona to more easily set up with Quiver Dance, (RC) and gives it the bulk necessary to check the Pokemon that it is tasked with. 252 Speed EVs with a Timid Nature lets Volcarona outspeed Hydreigon and Kyurem without any Quiver Dances, allowing it to force them out.

Volcarona can fit on balance and bulky offense teams due to its ability to check a myriad of threats, (RC) while also providing a potent win condition acting as a potent wincon. It appreciates teammates such as Gliscor and Mega Tyranitar that can comfortably switch into Knock Off users like Clefable and Tangrowth. Gliscor and Mega Tyranitar Both are also capable of taking advantage of Heatran, while Gliscor also exploits and Gliscor can exploit Toxapex, which are two of the best checks to Volcarona. Strong wallbreakers such as the aforementioned Gliscor, as well as the likes of Hydreigon, Kartana, Excadrill, and Mega Mawile, are great teammates as well, since they are able to overwhelm the opposition to the extent where Volcarona can clean up late-game.
