In what was one of the first battles of 2010, I came across a frightning opponent by the name of "rich boy". In fact, most of these battles were slightly intimidating because I was at the time testing out my squad of NU's built for the OU environment (the current NU ladder lacks much diversity in terms of players, so I brought it to the big stage). In a battle where almost every move matters due to the natural frailty of most NU pokemon, I found this one to be worthy of a warstory.

My Medicham doesn't carry Thunderpunch, so there's no point switching in and out again. Nope, and Lapras, as well as my team is beaten. As you can see, Lapras was not beaten by the +2 Earthquake, but instead by the residual damage of that pesky sandstorm. If only it was awake at the time!
A decent match in my opinion and extremely close (a running trend among these Warstoryable battles!), but as you could see a lot of the mistakes were on my side – with a result that close you can't help but think with correct foresight this team could hold its own against many OU teams.
Props:
Ursaring, truly a force against slower and unprepared OU threats.
Lapras, while although apparently useless, for being a sleep absorber and a thorn in rich boy's side for a length of time.
Rich boy's method of using a last-ditch method of attacking on a defensively-orientated team, a surprising technique.
Slops:
Lapras, Butterfree, Magmortar and Primeape for completely unfulfilling their potential – had they got the chance to, this battle would have likely been a bit more one sided (and less interesting). Proof that the lead pokemon and the first decisions of the battle carry through right to the end.

Ouch! The turn went as well as I could have hoped (and I never thought my 0 speed Lapras could outspeed his Aggron, maybe the thunder wave is just to annoy?), but 60% is a big price to pay for any wall, especially as my Lapras is lacking any sort of recovery outside of leftovers. I don't want to let in any easy counters, so I go for Ice beam to finish the Aggron off.

rich boy switched in Breloom (lvl 100 Breloom ?).

And now I feel soooo stupid for letting Primeape go at the start of the match, probably one of the best Breloom counters out there. I know that he's going to sub or spore (if his Loom was one of the rare Mach-Punchers it would fail to KO), so I'll keep my Lapras in and just Ice Beam until he spores – I wouldn't be surprised if Lapras has played it's part in this battle.

Yes, unless he's carrying Stone edge (it's rare that I'd see any Brelooms apart from my own in my OU team carry it), then Butterfree is safe. Now, my Butterfree is a scarf-disruptor, carrying Sleep Powder, Whirlwind, Shadow Ball and U-turn – it could be a lead set, but there's too many strong leads carrying Lum Berries or faster opponents (max speed timid B-Free with a choice scarf reaches 393 speed) in this tier. From that set, guess my next move =).

Well Breloom was swept from the battleground, but only to be met by that mountain-guzzling monster Tyrannitar. There's no point staying in due to the negative priority, unless he's a DDTar – I don't mind if it is though, since Medicham deals with those like a hot knife through butter.

WackaWacka switched in Ursaring (lvl 100 Ursaring ?).

Welcome my vicious teddy. I was running a Quick Feet version until I realised that it doesn't negate burn's effects like guts does, which felt a bit pointless for a physical attacker. Anyway, time to set up Swords Dance to bash the switch in – very little can break through 90/75/75 defenses on the first attack that isn't a fighting move.

A Tyranitar that can switch attacks, doesn't has Life Orb, has pursuit and doesn't run Jolly max speed? Confusion hits. Anyway, it's T-tar's down, and Ursaring is still at max health (albeit -1 defenses). I can only hope that the switch in isn't one of those poweful sweepers which OU hosts...
rich boy switched in Rotom-h (lvl 100 Rotom-h).

...And I am met with joy. Rotom cannot kill my teddy, as the most I saw from an unspecs'd Overheat was 50% - laughable to a full health Ursa. Best case would be that it attempts to burn me, for lol reasons (gogo guts power).

Rotom: out of order
Well, that could have gone better. In all the time I've spent in OU, I've only seen about 3 or 4 Rotoms with Thunder Wave, due to the amount of them that carry Discharge or Will-o-wisp. Since Guts activates anyway Rotom sees his doom, but now Ursa has no way of countering the rest of his team (at -6 speed, -1 defenses and essentially +4 attack, I can only hope a blissy is coming my way).

And so with a mighty roar, teddy falls, but only after taking around 250% off the oppostition – a good run I'd say. Breloom's easily in range for any attack from super-sweeper Medicham, so in it comes.
WackaWacka switched in Medicham (lvl 100 Medicham ?).
Now, with one unrevealed poke left I'm left relying on my choiced sweeper for help. Looking at his revealed pokemon so far, I haven't noticed any dragons yet, which would surely fill in any resistive gaps in his team. Hence I go for the Ice Punch, which eliminates the likes of salamence and 0HP Latiai (what is the plural of Latias?).

Fiddlesticks. Yes, Ice punch will not be doing a lot to ironically, one of the only things that can be seen as a dragon that isn't one. My Medicham doesn't carry Thunderpunch, so there's no point switching in and out again. I can only hope for the 19% chance of freezing it over the 2 turns that I will likely have (It would need to be running max speed to outrun Medi after 1 DD, which is very rare nowadays).

Down Cham goes, and it's here I see my true folly – I could have won this match by switching in Lapras to take the Waterfall to heal up some more to take almost anything he could send at me (such is the bulk of Lapras, as you see in the next turn). Instead I am left with one sleeping beauty against the destroyer of many a team. I can only Thunderbolt in the hope Lapras wakes up...

Machamp leads, and how often I am underprepared for them.
