A stranger is being shown around a village that he has just become part of. He is shown a well and his guide says "On any day except Tuesday, you can shout any question down that well and you'll be told the answer." The man seems pretty impressed, and so he shouts down, "Why not on Tuesday?" A voice from in the well shouts back, "Because on Tuesday, it's your day in the well. Now get me out of here already!"

Hello all, you (sort of) voted for this, and I'm happy to answer any and all questions you may have. But first, a little bit about myself:

A/S/L: 23/male/Pennsylvania, USA
Job: Currently working remote as a sportswriter. It's an unpaid internship but it's more fun than anything I could do with my math major so yeah.
Smogon backstory (short): Started out in 2011 as a battler on Pokemon Lab (NOT Shoddy Battle). Ended up modding on Showdown while I was in high school while becoming a regular Firebot poster as well. Stopped modding on Showdown a few years ago and ended up getting kinda sorta involved in the RBY community, as the fewer options are perfect for my smoothbrain. Ended up as one of your Smogoff mods now here we are.

Yo phoopes I asked you this in the social forum mod chat but can you only nominate one person for the well each time, or multiple?

what are your favorite and least favorite words that rhyme with phoopes, and why?

Give us your retrospective: How did your 2nd place finish in 4 8 12 16 affect the way you view the world?

Any favorite RBY players? I've heard Italians are really good at that gen.

Why did you choose a math major initially?

Wittiest thing you've ever said?

One sport has to get permanently cancelled, which one: NBA, NFL, MLB

how many smogon usernames have you had so far?

e: any old users you particularly miss?

Can you hook me up with a production internship

I had a hard enough time getting my own internship I think you may want to look elsewhere for connections.

What is your favorite pokemon?

What is your least favorite pokemon?

Favorite Pokemon to this day is still Rayquaza. At heart I'm still a kid that loves big and scary and powerful looking dragons and I feel like they've yet to top themselves in that regard.

As far as least favorite Pokemon, I'd probably have to say Tentacool. I remember playing the games as a kid (specifically Ruby) and when I was surfing around I would ALWAYS run into the thing. I'm too stubborn to waste money on Repels so yeah. Tentacruel is fine though.

I think most people only nominate one but you can nominate multiple if you so choose.

Did you enjoy getting your math major?

Enough to get a math tattoo but not enough to do anything in life with it lmao.

...to expand, I have the symbol for complex numbers tattooed on my left shoulder blade. I thought there was cool symbolism in it, bringing together both real numbers and imaginary numbers and I kind of thought of that as a good representative for life as a whole too. Like considering both the real and the imaginary, the tangible and the non-tangible. It's kind of funny now that I'm not doing anything with math but hey life happens and I'm taking a different path now.

Are you secretly collaborating with Jon Bois for 20020

Dude I wish, I love Jon Bois and all of his content. I actually applied to a fellowship for SBNation when I was doing my current job/internship searching but I didn't get it.

What kind of work do you do in your sportswriter job

It's pretty simple! I watch sports, email my boss a topic that I'd like to write about, he approves it. After that I go to a few handy sources for research purposes and then I write ~1000 words on the topic. So far I've only written about the NBA but with the season coming to a close soon I might expand into NFL as well. There's a lot of freedom which is what I like most about it.

MFK - Gritty, the Phillie Phanatic, Charles Barkley

Compared to the initial gameplan of Smogoff, has anything surprised you wrt the direction of the forum?

Favorite non-Pokemon video games?

Marry Gritty, phuck the phanatic, kill Chuck. I don't even like hockey that much but I would die for Gritty. Have you seen the Phanatic's tongue thing? He'd be a good time. Kill Sir Charles because he's the only one left.

Honestly, not really. There are a few threads that I thought had potential that ended up going nowhere but that's the way things go sometimes. I have liked that there's a good mix of newer users and oldheads which is something that I was really looking for.

Gotta say I was absolutely blown away by Dragon Quest XI for Switch, that's become my favorite game of all time after all the hours I've sunk into it. Favorite series that I've gotten into within the past couple of years is Fire Emblem, I've found I really like those kinds of games (I just picked up XCOM too and it's great) but Fire Emblem is probably the favorite series. Gotta give Smash Brothers some love as well, I really closely followed the competitive scene for awhile. Now less so, but I still play with friends a good amount. For nostalgia purposes I'll throw in the original Sly Cooper trio as well as my favorite series from when I was a kid.

what are your favorite and least favorite words that rhyme with phoopes, and why?

Favorite: oops for the sole purpose of "phoopes I did it again"

Least favorite: poops. it's a joke that I'm a little tired of. Of course by me saying that I expect to hear it more now.

fmk: firebot, smogoff, a forum

favourite smogoff thread so far?

who do you sportswrite for?

Fuck Firebot, marry Smogoff, kill a forum. You had to have known this answer was coming.

Favorite thread so far is probably the under construction one. It's the kind of silly that's made me laugh out loud a good amount. Favorite individual post so far in Smogoff was the OP in ranking fire starters by how well they could operate a forklift

I plead the fifth on who I write for, not trying to give away my real life identify so easily. Basically it's a fairly small American website that covers sports, gaming, music, and movies mostly. I'll leave it at that.

Hahahaha this is my favorite question so far. I'd say it taught me that life is about the journey, not the destination. There was a lot of planning that went into 4 8 12 16 and between the suggestions I got on the forums and the banter between my friends in real life, that was probably a lot more fun than the end result (which resulted in me feeling like absolute garbage because I treated myself like absolute garbage lol).

I'd probably say EB0LA as my fav RBY player because he runs the lower tiers Discord and I've gotten very into RBY lower tiers recently. Don't know if he's Italian though. Gotta give a shoutout to Hipmonlee too though because his RBY Battling Guide is what got me into RBY in the first place.

I chose a math major because I was originally a math education major that decided teaching wasn't for me once I actually got in the classroom every day. So after that math was just the degree that I was closest to earning so that's why I did that. I've had trouble figuring out what I want to do in life lol.

My kinda sorta ex-girlfriend has a tattoo of a peony on her hip. One time she was using peony-scented body wash and I asked her if she was trying to make her tattoo scratch and sniff. idk if that's the wittiest thing I've ever said but it's my favorite

Considering I write about the NBA and will probably write about the NFL when the season is over, definitely the MLB. It was my favorite sport as a kid but I've just lost interest over time.

How'd you come up with your username?

I actually didn't, my mom did if you can believe that.

how many smogon usernames have you had so far?

phoopes -> jynx -> djanxo unchained -> phat mewtwo -> phoopes

So four total. The first two name changes were from spending 1,000 likes in v's like shop as a way to troll Cresselia~~ and the name change to phat mewtwo was in a bet your avatar thread that I ended up betting my username as well. I changed back to phoopes not that long ago because I had realized that I spent more time on this website as not phoopes than I had as phoopes and I wanted to rectify that lol

Would you fuck a ghost?

Depends on the ghost

your thoughts on the process behind archiving firebot and the creation of smogoff

and the most important one: do you like strogonoff

As the kids say, Firebot -> Smogoff was a "cultural reset" lol. I think a fresh start is exactly what the less serious off-topic section needed and I'm happy to be a part of it.

Stroganoff slaps, huge fan of it.

What's your ideal ice cream flavor

Normally I'm a cookies and cream guy, but the right strawberry is also incredible.

Who have been your favourite Smogoff posters so far?

What are your thoughts on the direction it's going in? Do you think it's a positive one?

I'll give an "oldheads" answer and a "new guy" answer. As far as older members I'd definitely say monkfish, for newer posters I'm going Sijih. I've probably gotten the most consistent laughs out of those two.

I'm pretty happy with the way things are going so far. I feel like the mod team is pretty on the same page about most things and that's made things pretty easy. Not that there's been a lot of problems to deal with, but yeah. I think we're getting a good mix of stuff from older and newer people with some fun threads. It's a good time.

What are your thoughts on modding plague von karma (forum not specified)

Plague von Karma is a good lass. I like her a lot. Sure.

Since you said you were a math major, what was your favorite and least favorite parts of Calculus?

Another science related exercise: based on your current knowledge of the Solar System, what do you think non-intelligent, extra-terrestial life in our Solar System would look like?

And finally... what's your favorite kind of pizza?

Hard to say what my favorite part was, I'd probably just say learning about derivatives for the first time since I was back in high school and it came really easily to me. I had a really great math teacher in high school as well as opposed to kind of eh ones for the most part in college so that's probably the favorite. My least favorite part was definitely when I was in calc 3 in college and we had to graph stuff in 3D, I'm not an artist so stuff never came out the way I wanted it to.

TMon this is such an out there question lmao. My knowledge of the Solar System is very little but from what I understand I think there's fresh water on Europa because it's covered in ice? And since it's incredibly cold there I would expect life there (if it exists) to look like it does in our ocean's depths, where it's also extremely cold. Definitely differences due to evolution and different pressures and temperatures at different depths but yeah. I've thought about it before and I think we'd be able to find stuff there that resembles some of our strange-looking deep ocean life.

Favorite kind of pizza is definitely buffalo chicken with ranch. There's a local pizza place here that's new that's pretty good and you can customize your pizza however you like and that's always what I go with.

Are you going to join us in NYC when we all meet up or are you too cool for us boomers?

Send me the invite when we're not in a pandemic and hell yeah I'll be there.

what did you end up doing with your grandfather's KKK robe?

I feel like I need to provide context for this one lmao. To the best of my knowledge, my grandmother (his wife, who is still alive) still has it. It's one of those don't ask don't tell things in our family.
