Yanmega

Oh. Fuck. No. NOT THIS SHIT AGAIN. NO. Anybody remember Yanmega in UU last gen? Urgh. I can't really see what's changed for Yanny, short of the Giga Drain boost, which might be nice for bulky waters (cough Quagsire), but Specs Tinted Lens will remain his best set, IMO. I'mma go abuse him now.

I remember a set in 4th generation that I swept with a few times. Once all its counters and checks were out of the way it was unstoppable.

Yanmega @ Petaya Berry
Speed Boost
4Def/252SAt/252Spe
Modest/Timid
-Substitute
-Bug Buzz
-Air Slash
-Giga Drain

Seeing as Petaya berry is illegal at the moment this set isn't very feasible but once it does get released I can't wait to try it.

I hate it when people use this statement, considering it's true for any Pokemon from Magikarp to Arceus.

He is not as good as he was last gen. Chansey is a much more solid counter this gen than last. I like running tinted lens choice specs Yanmega. The walls are sturdier and the sweepers are faster. Yanmega is good just not as good as he once was. It takes more work to set up a Yanmega sweep.

Chansey is pretty much the only reason (and sr) why Yanmega isn't used more in UU, Specs Bug Buzz still wrecks everything even if they resist it, people just don't want to spend time trying to spin rocks when you can use things like Azelf and Mew in UU now who are or faster or bulkier and can use Nasty plot and change attacks

I just revived this thread because I wanted to add that I tried a Yanmega+Volbeat Combo on the ladder today. That. Is. Freaking. Amazing. The sheer power of a +3 Modest Yanmega is amazing. It can heal itself with Leftovers (it doesn't need LO) and Giga Drain, because literally everything weak to grass and weaker targets like Froslass are killed. I even beat a Chansey one-on-one because Giga Drain healed more HP than Seismic Toss could deal. Donphan's Ice Shard did about 30%, and even CB Mamo's Ice Shard can't OHKO (that's the most powerful priority I'm going to face). As long as rocks are off the field (and preferably Sableye is gone), a +3 Yanmega is going to kick ass.

How did you switch in Yanmega though? I mean I get priority passing and whatnot, but similar typing means it could switch in on a SE move.

seriously, now that chansey is out, yanmega has literally 2 counters: Snorlax and Registeel. But now that donphan is gone, yanmeega lost his best spinner friend. oh well, time to use sandslash now...

I'm not convinced as to how +3 Yanmega can actually beat Chansey one-on-one when Chansey can use Toxic or Thunder Wave to cripple Yanmega.

Call me a noob but CB adamant ninjask has been doing great for me. Gotta watch out for priority though (except Mach punch), and some scarfers, and his attack movepool is atrocious. But hey, nobody sees it coming!

If passed a sub, Yanmega can literally beat anything with a sub and +3 SAtk.
Even without a sub, Yanmega won't care about Thunderwave because after a while Speed Boost fixes paralysis. And lol I posted here before Chansey was gone hahaha.
Also Yanmega could switch in on weak defensive threats or mons intent on setting up spikes, like Roserade. If I have a sub, I can switch in whenever.

im a big fan of the first sample set. ive always done well with just the simple LO/speed boost assuming the opponant doesnt have an ice shard weavile it can easily wreck through teams without an answer to it. it has been reliable and in use for me since 4th gen and is really what puts this poke in good standing for me.

I don't know, I really don't think Yanmega is worth the trouble of building a team around. Its worst trait is its 4x weakness to Stealth Rock, but you can get around that. The reason I don't really like using him is because it either doesn't hit hard enough or it isn't fast enough, depending on the set. The other Speed Boost mon, Sharpedo, doesn't need nearly as much support and is better in almost every way, imo. Im sure you could base a good team around him, but I haven't been able to use him effectively this gen.

Uh, Tinted Lens Choice Specs. Try switching anything into that.

Speed Boost is really good, but Tinted Lens is amazing. Why do you think he was BL last generation?

Well why bother trying to switch in to it if you can just KO it? The thing is weak to Ice, Fire, Flying Electric and 4x weak to Stealth Rock. 86/86/56 defenses means it crumples to any decent STAB attack after Stealth Rock and probably most strong special ones before Rocks. In any case Yanmega is not going to be living any decently powered super effective move which most teams will have plenty of. Sure you might not be able to outspeed Yanmega if it has Speed Boost but then you realize it has horrible coverage as a Bug, not being able to hit most Steels for instance for neutral damage outside of Hidden Power. 95 base Speed is enough to consider Yanmega fast and strong and very very good, but I doubt broken.

I never said it was broken, I said have fun trying to find a good switch in that doesn't take a ton of damage.

Switch in your registeel on my bug buzz? Great, take a bunch of damage and watch as I switch to avoid the T-wave.

Has his problems for sure, but its not as if he's going to be tossing blows with Chandelure anytime soon.

I mean, most pokemon would kill for perfect neutral coverage...

I just assumed when you asked why do you think it was Bl last generation you were saying it was still Bl. My bad if you meant otherwise.

Anyways what I was saying is you shouldn't bother to switch in because it is very very easy to just KO it, especially if you Yanmega is on 50% health from Stealth Rocks. Losing half your health without a reliable spinner every switch in will at best put a serious crimp in your sweep.

I don't really know when you say tossing blows with Chandelure, but I think you meant its not as powerful as it. Of course I agree with that but I think the two are at least comparable, both of them can blow big holes in teams if they out speed whatever is out.

Neutral coverage if fine and all but most Pokemon can already get that if they use a Life Orb and a coverage move or two.

My personal prediction is that if Deoxys-D leaves the tier, Yanmega will take over as the deadliest special sweeper. Deoxys-D is pretty much the only prominent 'mon in UU able to set up rocks other than Bronzong (Rypherior and Eviolite Rydon in the same tier as 5 bulky waters and one amazing water revenge killer?), so once he's gone, Yanmega can easily move in to decimate the tier. Very few things are able to wall it, and equally few things are able to revenge kill it.

I would disagree Zapdos serves pretty well as a check to Yanmega.
Non-Speed-Boost variants are revenged by standard LO Zapdos while Speed Boost Bug Buss can only do 38.3% - 44.9% to a standard LO zapdos even with choice specs. Of course, you could run HP Ice, but I haven't seen lots of Yanmegas doing that
