Media Yu-Gi-Oh discussion

Been messing around with fun casual decks on DN recently. Can't be bothered with sideboards etc, since most of the games I do are one-offs.

Blue-Eyes themed deck based around MASSIVE DRAW POWER. Strategy: use the 22 card drawing/adding cards to draw through the entire deck, then OTK with three Blasting the Ruins. Blue-Eyes never gets to battle, just being discarded/tributed to draw cards whenever I can.

I have Cards of Consonance to discard The White Stone of Legend (and draw two cards). Then, I can use Trade In to send the Blue-Eyes White Dragon I fetched to the graveyard (and draw two cards). I resurrect it with any of the seven resurrection spells/traps, and immediately tribute it again for Advance Draw (and draw two cards) or send it to the graveyard for White Elephant's Gift (and draw two cards). Of course, I have Card Destruction and Morphing Jar to fill up my graveyard and burrow even faster through the deck; I've had times where Card Destructions got me 9 cards. Obviously, this means I'm discarding and tributing White Stone and Blue-Eyes constantly - Super Rejuvenation turns each of these into yet more cards. Reckless Greed lets me get going faster, and can be reused with Mask/Trap of Darkness. Mask/Trap of Darkness are in there mainly to get back Blasting the Ruins if it's destroyed; Trap has the advantage of being able to get around the 30-card restriction, though thanks to its 1000LP cost and 3000LP maximum requirement, it's not enough to win by itself.

I've had many situations where I end up drawing through the entire deck; I usually have to get down to my last couple of cards before my graveyard is full enough to activate Blasting the Ruins. Opponent thinks I'm screwed, and passes the turn to force me to draw from my empty deck... only to be greeted with 9000LP damage as I'm about to lose. Fun stuff.

I have to give credit to my little brother who came up with this deck; I just tweaked it to make it a bit more reliable.

Things it auto-loses to: Macro Cosmos, Royal Decree, anything really fast that can kill me before I draw into the combo.

The Aesir are the kind of big, flashy card I like. Once one's up, it's pretty difficult to get rid of with their negation and resurrection effects. And getting more than one means the opponent is going down fast.

Nordics are pretty good at searching each other out and getting up materials for the Aesir; Valkyrie of the Nordic Ascendant is a good opener or last resort, getting me Odin, Father of the Aesir in exchange for two Nordics from my hand. Its condition is pretty restrictive; Vanadis of the Nordic Ascendant gives me access to Odin (or either of the other two) once I have board presence. Mara of the Nordic Alfar is useful for instant Loki, Lord of the Aesir; I can use two of either Tyr of the Nordic Champions or Garmr of the Nordic Beasts from my hand to summon him, or the goats for level 8 Synchros. Speaking of the goats, Tanngrisnir of the Nordic Beasts and Tanngnjostr of the Nordic Beasts combo pretty well; open with a face-down Tanngrisnir, let the opponent kill it and summon Tanngnjostr, then next turn use Tanngnjostr to search out Guldfaxe of the Nordic Beasts and make Thor, Lord of the Aesir. Gleipnir, Fetters of Fenrir makes it easy to get the Nordics I need, and Loki helps to reuse it. Vanadis dumps Nordic Tuners to the graveyard to keep the Aesir alive, as well as being pretty easy to use for Synchros thanks to its level-changing power. March Towards Ragnarok is a bit situational, but it's definitely had its moments - for example, it stops stray Bottomless Trap Holes destroying my hard work, and gives the Aesir protection during my opponent's turn. Sangan gives more searching power, and Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning is just amazing (though it interferes with the Aesir's resurrection effects). There's a couple of traps to deal with pesky effect monsters that aren't negated by March Towards Ragnarok or Loki/Odin - in contrast to spells/traps, monsters are most often used in my opponent's turn, so Thor's negation effect isn't nearly as useful.

It's a bit of a non-traditional Synchro-based deck, but it's surprisingly effective - the Synchros it makes are more powerful and durable than the likes of Stardust Dragon, making up for their steeper requirements.

I just beat a Dragunity player in an excellent game; I got Loki up relatively early to counter the Stardust Dragon my opponent summoned on his first turn - his Gozen Match stopped me playing it earlier, as I had a spare Nordic Beast token still on the field. He destroyed it, then Bottomless Trap Holed its resurrection (I didn't have March Towards Ragnarok at this point); I followed up with Black Luster Soldier, which took out a massive chunk of his LP before falling to Gae Bulg. Black Luster Soldier being down meant I could summon Mara (Gozen Match was still up), then tune it with Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjostr in my hand for Scrap Dragon and game. Good stuff.
I've been tempted to start buying physical cards again, but I've resisted so far. The Aesir deck (minus BLS) and two Fairy decks I made earlier are actually really cheap to construct, coming out to ~$20 per deck (one of them is only $10 - most of the cards were in the recent structure deck!). But then there's shipping to the UK, which is a pain. And I bought the 2011 DS game to avoid having to buy cards - it doesn't seem to be working :/

EDIT: Aesir deck price doesn't include non-Aesir Synchros/Xyz. I don't use them that much anyway.

Not that I pay that much attention to Yugioh anymore, much less play the game, I think Konami (or whoever designs the cards) is becoming desperate when it starts using names such as "Interplanetarypurplythorny Dragon."

I find the power creep with new cards more offensive than silly names. Inzektors and Wind-ups just to give a few examples.

Oh you opened up Dragonfly, Hornet, and Giga? Guess you deserve to win.

Is there some sort of simulator for Yu Gi Oh ? I'd like to have a nostalgia blast with my old deck.

Edit: Wait, what the fuck are those black/white-colored cards.. ?

We all use DuelingNetwork.com.

The Black cards are known as Exceeds(pronounced Ikseez). and the white cards are known as Synchro Monsters.

You're right..it would probably be better as Chaos instead of an inbetween build.

Any advice on the Extra?

Also, Lumina is semied now.

Should i run 1 or 2?

Just played a game where I summoned all three Aesir. Turn 1 Odin, followed by turn 4 Thor and turn 5 Loki. Screw competitive decks, this is how real men play.

Fiendish Chain blows. It's just another annoying -1 that "cool" kids try to pass off as a useful card. Stick to 141 cards.

The idea of card number advantage as solely being the game maker is ridiculous. By your reasoning, Book of Moon, Compulsion, Veiler, ect are absolutely awful.

As for my Dark World deck, Rai-Oh may interfere with Snoww, but I obviously would use Snoww before I got Rai-Oh up. Even with setting all of my spells and traps, Dragged Down still gives my opponent the chance to discard say, an extra Rai-Oh or Trance Archfiend or something I don't want discarded. I've used Dragged Down in Dark World, and it was just underwhelming.

  • Inspired by the Tele-DAD deck, I'm running a Tele-Monarch deck.
  • Dark Simorgh, BLS, DAD are all major powerhouses and are rather easy to summon with this deck.
  • Loaded up with Light, Dark and Wind monsters that do not mind going to the Grave. I can put Simorgh on the field on the first turn if I draw Tricky, Caius and Simorgh, or a Wind, Dark and Foolish Burial.
  • Can't really get over Chaos Dragons if I don't grab Simorgh early. Even then, I can't get over REDMD

Just like with Tele-DAD, I'm able to pump out a few Synchros as well as use a whole ton of boss cards. However, instead of focusing on DAD, I'm using Monarchs to tear up the opponent's field.

Why don't you?

Because I'd like to play without the hassle of running it. I don't have time to make sure everyone gets their duels done, etc. etc.

Hence why it was a simple request with a nice please. :)

EDIT: THANKS ATTICUS!!!!!!!!!!!

You don't like Dragged Down in Darkworld? what...Dragged down is like one of the best aspects of using dw :(

you dont use it when you have something you want to keep. you set all your s/ts and then use it so they have to pick a dark world

this post made me die a little on the inside. fiendish chain isn't a -1 lol. the monster lost its effect and cant attack, its as good as dead. i mean obviously there are situations where the chained monster can still be xyz'd/synchrod but if i chain a dragonfly for instance the job has been completed.

like book of moon the card is versatile, you can use it to negate effects or protect yourself from attacks. the sole reason the card went down in usage was because a lot of decks that dont care about it rose to usage (dark worlds/heros/chaos dragons), not because its not a "1 for 1"

Just tried an Exodia variant of my Blue-Eyes deck above. It works quite well, other than having a major weakness to cards that force me to discard. If I could be bothered to make a sideboard, it would need monster retrieval. And it still sucks if I don't get any Dragons in my opening hand.

gravekeepers seems to be the deck to run this format , it has an awesome match up against chaos dragons , good against inzektor / rabbit , dark world may be the only bad match up but the side should do work there .

Hieratics are freakin broken man. This deck is a OTK strategy. You simply need to get out 3 level 6 monsters and it's gg. With this deck it's easy to get out 3 level 6 monsters. This deck is suprisingly consistent. Even when I get a bad hand it only takes a few draws to get out my OTK.

I really like how they killed plants (btw, I really haven't been keeping up with the game for like 5 months now). Dark Worlds I see are topping a lot of YCS's.

Not really. They've gotten, what, 4 to 6 top 16s in this format? (Including the Long Beach 1st place and the 2nd place at the recent Danish YCS.) They're viable and a presence in the metagame but they are not topping "a lot", especially when compared to Rabbit.
