Yugioh! TCG Thread

edit: yeah, i'm not really trying to send them that far, sorry :(
Which is more than understandable, the costs for such a transfer would be very high.

Fun thing is that I bought some Retro Pack's today and, you can guess it, I pulled a nice Super Rare Solemn =D
(I also pulled Exodia's Right Leg, Exodia Count: 1/5)

Well, here I am again after a very long while away. I haven't played since... let's see, March 2007?? Hmm yeah, long time...

Anyway, since I stopped playing over a year ago I got rid of all my cards and fell out of touch with this game... and now, I'm looking to get back into it again. But the problem is, I've looked around a bit, and SO much has changed!! I'm so confused now, and I think I need some help.

1. Please, tell me everything that has changed about the game since a year and a half ago.

2. Are there any awesome cards that I should know about? And which older cards are still going strong?

3. What's the best way for me to get back into the game? What should I look into buying?

Also, @ keloggsequent: How far can you send those cards? I bet they would really help me get back into the swing of the game. I live in California.

Thanks in advance for the help =]

dreamquiver:
1) I just got into the game this summer, so I can't answer that one

2) recently the new synchro cards were released (those nice white ones), those are gonna be popular in the near future

Looks like it'll be a fast format. With Zombie Synchro coming out, Lightsworns getting Charge of the Light Brigade, DAD and its Synchro having Allure at 3, and of course the untouched Gladiator Beasts.

I'm predicting the top Decks will be varied by the time TDGS settles in but ALL decks will be expensive until Gladiator Beast Heraklinos becomes a Super Rare Promo. I really don't want to play Gladiator Beasts though. I hate bandwagoning.

Ironic that while they're limiting Cydra due to Synchros, in Japan they're also releasing a new lv 5 2000 Dark/Dragon monster that can be Special Summoned like Cydra but has its original attack halved if it does so. If truth be told, in the current metagame a card like that is actually better than Cydra.
In the US, Cydra at 1, and we haven't even got the really good D-Terminal synchros. In Japan, they have 4 Cydras...

I really do wonder why Gladiators, dominating nearly every big tournament, are untouched.
Banning Disk Commander is absolutely necessary, it has been said before in this thread IIRC, it's got 6 different possibilities for revival now...
After reading about what kind of force Andal proved to be at worlds all due to it's 1900 atk I can see Breaker appear in every deck from now on...(I guess he already did before he was banned? I wasn't into competitive yu-gi-oh back then.)

Probably Japan just got Test Tiger legal there, so they don't want to screw over potential sales resulting from its availability. Maybe Light and Darkness Dragon without Disk in the D-hero engine will be able to defeat GB's...not.

Ok I decided to make a Zombie deck, and now that I have completed it, I could use some help fixing somethings, adding or taking away cards.

Anyways money is no object to me, and I could probably get any card easily. This deck is still lacking something so I could use some help.

Lich Lord and Necroface seem... out of place. Especially Necroface. Can you explain them?

Not sure about Lich Lord, just kinda didn't feel like putting in Ryu Kokki, but probably will replace with ryu.

As for Necroface, Well I had him in there to put Mezuki back in the deck, then Foolish, pyramid, or goblin to get him back out, but now that I have BFDD, I'll probably take him out.

EDIT: well now they have been replaced.

While contributions are nice, for a hyped up card like that I think some explanation is due.

If you're speaking to me:

Chariot, Prison, BTH, Mirror, Shrink, BoM, sided LIMs (which are bound to increase in play by good players with the release of CotLB) all rape Thunderking.

That does mean however that the Glad player is forced to used some rather powerful card to get around 1 Thunder King. Now imagine in what kind of trouble a Glad player would get if his opponent decides to Side for a total of 3 Thunder Kings plus a couple of Krebons and Psychic Commanders...

Really, do you understand how ygo works?

You're assuming, based on your second statement, that you will draw 3 Thunderkings (at the most basic point)

Now, you're also forgetting that Chariot is recyclable by Equeste. So, you will likely have only one card to my AT LEAST 16, and even if you DO get all three Thunderkings, you're still outnumbered more than 5 to 1.

Even if I DO end up without any of them, I've also got 3 Hoplomuses that I can wall with until I get an out to it.

Even with just Chariot I'll have an answer to every one of your Thunderkings/Krebons/anything unless you've got Crow. And even then, I've still got 15 more cards, including 2 more Chariots.

No, but the odds of getting one in let's say your opening hand will be rather decent? Just the same odds as having the chariot.

Ok I admit, I forget about Equeste recycle ability. But Chariot is going to fail if you try to tag with one Glad on the field (Tag out back to deck, attempt special summon, thunderking effect, no Glad on the field for Chariot)(Or did I misinterpret that?) This makes a first turn Thunderking a potential disaster for a Glad player.
You are also expecting to have the Chariot out in time, 3 chariots to draw vs (possibly) 3 Krebons/ 3 Commanders/ 3 ThunderKings to draw isn't always going to work. It also should not be forgotten that some decks running Krebons/Commander will make big plays by keeping Krebons/Commander on the field for just one turn, one is bound to slip through at some point.
Hoplomus isn't going to enjoy taking a trip to RFG pile or Graveyard thanks to Caius or any other of the many 1 tribute monsters that can overpower it.
ThunderKing's effect also does the following: it disables Equeste's effect( as it does not specify where the card added to the hand has to come from.) This means that you'll need that Chariot before ThunderKing shows up or it will hinder you due to mere field presence and the combination of both of his effect and his attack "stat".
Al I am saying is that ThunderKing/Krebons/Commander will make a glad player's life harder. Playing any of those makes setting up on Glad's a lot easier.

Player A tags out a glad, special summons new glad
Player B responds to the SS by activating thunderking's effect, starting a chain
Player A has a glad on the field from the SS and activates chariot, negating and destroying thunderking

Since thunderking's negation effect hasn't resolved yet, and it can't be activated until a monster has actually been summoned (you can't chain it to the effect that summons, only activate in response to the summon itself, which starts a new chain), player A could chain chariot.

You sure? Royal Oppression negates the special summon before it hits the field.

I'm looking at the wording and the two cards are very different. But I'd like to double check this. Cards such as Solemn Judgment can negate Jinzo's summon, before it hits the field. Thunderking does say "When your opponent special summons a monster" which leads me to believe you are right that the monster does hit the field, but I'd like to be hopeful that you're wrong.

Also, to the above, you have just as much chance as drawing Chariot as I do drawing Thunderking (and if you want to get technical I have a far GREATER chance because of the simple fact that Gladiator Beasts put their monsters back into the deck to be drawn decreasing their odds of drawing a specific card and they also run 0 draw cards. Save for Prisma and Gladiator Proving Ground there's nothing that Glads have to thin the deck that other decks aren't using)

But I will agree. Chariot + Equeste has made the Control-Variant of Gladiator Beasts the top deck next format. I'm afraid of the day when people realize there are six viable targets for Icarus Attack in the GB deck and they are nearly infinitely searchable.
