re: "why was the eastern qualifier idea dropped", strong opposition from finchinator especially iirc. something like "blah blah asymmetric qualification system is fundamentally unfair". whole load of nonsense but i was outnumbered in the td team and i decided it was not a battle i would be able to fight successfully

yeah idk the whole point is the current qualification process is also asymmetric and fundamentally unfair, but yes thank you for the context, it makes more sense that any further efforts in this regard were deemed unpalatable rather than that it just never got followed up on
