Movie:
I don't know what plot they can do. I'd like to see something related to the game but that's not really possible unless they release multiple movies or really shrink it down. Eitherway, probably would be best to just have a Pokemon cinematic verse and create new characters instead of relying on previous like the anime or manga so they can do what they want.
That said, I've always had a hard time imagining a live action Pokemon movie because what would the Pokemon look like? Too realistic they become unrecognizable but too cartoony and it creates a visual clash and I just can't see a middle road. Maybe use the art style of Pokken? Realistic-like textures but cartoon anatomy? Honestly I think a CG movie would be the better step than a live action.

Speculation Excitement:
Oh, I'm also excited to see what the bring us even though I hate how they're going about it (being the biggest trolls as possible, I mean why?).

I'm looking forward to seeing the new Pokemon's designs, type combinations, Moves, Items, and Abilities (I'm not all too concerned with how they play though that said I want them to play good and hold their own in battle). I'm also looking forward to what the region is based on and what they do with iconic location set pieces. I'm looking forward to seeing the new Professor, Rival(s), Gym Leaders, Elite Four, and Champion (and any other NPC along the way). Heck, I'm even looking forward to see the villain team. Yeah, yeah, tired old plot, but they do make them at least look visually different and tried giving them interesting themes and going about taking over the world. Would I like seeing a new kind or antagonist force? Sure, though be it people, Pokemon, or an event I'm looking for it to be visually pleasing and have an intersting story which makes me want to play through it. I'm also curious to see what they do with previous stuff like past gen characters, how they'll improve existing Pokemon, and even what mechanic tweaks they've done being the scenes.

Oh yeah, live action movie news... eeeugh... I mean, it could possibly be good. Anything's possible. But live action adaptions of nostalgic properties that have happened so far - Transformers, Smurfs etc - have left an extremely bad taste in my mouth. Among other many obvious failures it never quite gets and embraces the source material, it's always generic and edgy as heck, and always takes the focus away from what we care about to focus on boring generic human characters that have oh so relevant to the source material problems like relationship problems or failing a job. tl;dr - live action adaptions of nostalgic properties are almost always the shittiest cash-ins that rarely if ever understand and/or embrace the source material that I hate as both a fan of some of these properties and as a film student. Don't count on enjoying a potential live-action pokemon movie.

We're all still understandably butthurt about Corocoro and lack of news, but this little factoid managed to slip by without much fanfare. If you take a look at the latest movie trailer for the Volcanion/Magearna movie and stop at about the 0:57 mark...
Hey, it's Zygarde 100%. So maybe his movie debut is not being skipped after all? It could be a cop out and actually from the movie intro sequence (that usually showcases Legendary pokemon or cameos from the anime, games, or previous movies) but then again why make that a trailer scene.

So Zygarde might get some more spotlight than we thought.

Sorry Ho-oh, still no movie for you.

The inclusion of Zygarde in this film reinforces my small feeling that the next generation is still going to feature Zygarde 100. I mean, it's kind of foolish to be certain that we won't see it.

On another note, I feel like Magearna movie's plot become more predictable. I bet my 200+ great Poke blocks, Volcanion would be a foe at first, and then joined force to beat the villain. Feh, not that I'm interested in the movies anymore anyways; the movies degraded since years and in games they do nothing but be sent by delivery to us, which is so much for the movies.
Actually Volcanion is trying to save Magearna from the villain, just go to the Japanese movie website for more information.

It's odd that Nintendo doesn't put more effort into having well-written movies seeing as a successful movie can catapult the franchise back into the status it enjoyed in the late 90's. Movies are basically humongous marketing platforms but they do have to be written well.

A bad movie can do a lot more damage than goodwill that a good movie can bring in.

There's been so many rumours about a Hollywood backed Pokemon film that you would have to imagine it would be backed by a main series game(s)

The Super Mario Bros. movie didn't really do a hit on the franchise, nor did Ron Jeremy's gay porn version.

Doesn't have to be well-written to be successful. Just have whatever appeals to the lowest common denominator.
In fact well-written movies often aren't at the forefront of what's successful and popular.

Screw the villanous team, though. That plot is way too overused and needs to be discontinued.
I totally agree with this. Team Rocket was amazing, Team Magma/Aqua were decent, and Team Plasma was good until they pulled the big cop-out at the end of BW. Team Galactic and Team Flare were awful. The problem is, though... if you ditch the evil team, what do you replace it with?

The Pokemon games need to have some plot beyond "Get 8 badges and become the Champion". Otherwise... what's the player character's motivation? If there is an evil team that threatens to take over the region, suddenly the stakes are a lot higher. You suddenly have something to fight for, instead of just collecting badges for no particular reason.

ye but that'd be sooooo linear
"k just beat gym 4, what's next OH ANOTHER GYM GYM NUMBER 5 YES THIS IS SOMETHING I DIDN'T EXPECT WOW SO MUCH FUN"
a story is good when it's not very linear(but you also gotta be careful to not get carried away from the plot too much), when you give out a plot at the beginning, and then you only that and in the end accomplish that

I mean, is that not what pokemon is about, and has been about since 1996? Set out on an adventure, discover new places and new creatures, meet new people, become stronger, and eventually become the strongest. And if you can fit saving the world in there, why not? That has been the formula pokemon has used for 20 years, and thus far it has worked for them perfectly. I agree, they need to mix things up in SM to a certain degree, maybe have a gym in space, or make you battle a certain gym twice, but to take away the concept of gyms, champions, and bad guys would be to take away essentially what defines pokemon as a game. We may as well just be playing digimon should that happen.

The thing is...how many people actually play these games for plot? I know that I sure don't. If you want plot in pokemon go play the cube games.

The first Michael Bay Transformers movie is at least a decent guilty pleasure.

At this point, all I can hope for is that the hypothetical movie is enjoyable to watch, whether it's good or not. That's all I ask for.

Yeah, I realize that there's a reason why they've stuck to the "evil, world-threatening team" for so long. Not only is it a side plot that can be solved with Pokémon battles, but it also provides a handy source of trainers to battle at climactic points in the story. If you were only, say, hunting down legendary Pokémon, there wouldn't be nearly as many trainers to fight whenever the story took another turn, or it would feel really weird for them to be there. Plus, it also provides a story-related "end boss" for you to fight, and they set the player in a hero role rather than "accomplisher of things". The designers can even play the "saving the world" card to make the story as epic as possible (and therefore better, right? Right? Right?)

Still, that's not to say the "evil, world-threatening team" plot is the only way to have a story to the games: Off the top of my head:

- Preventing a natural disaster
- Settling a feud between two/more cities/clans (does not have to be crime related)
- "Petty" crime (no world domination or grand organization, just gang crime)
- Travelling the region as an aide to somebody, delivering packages or helping out with a business or whatever, beating Gyms and trainers along the way. Heck, maybe even throw in a rival company.
- Something à la the Looker plot
- Upping the ante with the traditional rivals.
- Treasure hunt.

And that's just my suggestions after two minutes of thinking. They might not have all the benefits of the "evil, world-threatening team" plot, but I'm no game designer, and I believe a good writer would have no problem writing a story that would suit the Pokémon games just as well as that old cliché has. Game Freak could think in new directions, but I've got a feeling they've grown so accustomed to the evil, world-threatening team plot that they'd rather not change it, but keep it as a tradition. After all, if it isn't broken, why fix it? Or rather, if you can sell customers the same old crap in a new wrapping, no reason to waste money on R&D.

Yeah, but I don't think you could possibly say it's "well-written". Especially since it still has possibly the most annoying parent characters in fiction...

I have read it. But it had to hate Ash first, no? Still counts as a 'foe' who eventually warms up to finally join forces.
Basically, yeah. Standard movie fare; new pokeman hate the humans, but now it likes the humans and wants to help the humans!

On a whim I typed both into Google Translate with autodetect language on, and the first autodetected as Slovenian while the second autodetected as Latvian. Neither seems to actually be a word in that language, but it might be interesting I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
