(also I probably made some mistakes to correct me if I have)

This is obviously just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to new things that will change, there are already other things such as Dream World abilities for existing Pokemon and movepools. But I think the first thing that jumps out about the new Pokemon is how slow this generation is. I believe the fastest Pokemon will only reach 17 speed max. So what effect do you think this will have on the metagame? Also, definitely discuss other things such as Dream World abilites, movepools etc. So basically, what do you think Gen 5 LC will look like?

http://serebii.net/blackwhite/dreamworldabilities.shtml All dream world abilities for reference

My first thoughts:
  • Trick Room will become more viable thanks to so many slow, strong mons
  • Drought Vulpix will make sun REALLY good, and thanks to Sand Throw, Hippopotas will be very popular
  • Speed Boost Carvanha and Torchic will be very strong, possibly Yanma-esque
  • #610 (Kibago) will be very good with awesome attack, pretty good speed and Dragon Dance
  • #566 (Aaken) is probably going to be one of the premeir scarfers with the second highest attacking stat in LC after Cranidos and pretty good speed
  • Many more Pokemon are getting access to swift swim and chlorophyll, probably making the game more centralized around controlling the weather
  • #551 (Meguroko) will probably also be very good with pretty good attack and speed and with especially with earthquake spiral
I'm probably missing some things so please tell me if I am.

Yeah, I'm agreeing with you on this: Trick Room will become more viable thanks to so many slow, strong mons. With Pokemon which have immense Offensive stats and Defensive ones, the speedy battles in LC you would find today are going to become scarce in a short amount of time. This is just my assumption and prediction, though.

Besides Vulpix getting Drought, there are a few other notable things that improved Sunny Day Teams. Bulbasaur gets Cholorophyll which will be pretty sweet for it under the sun and Charmander gets Solar Power, so you could scarf him and start tearing through teams with Fire Blast.

What about that helps not fully evolved pokemon's stats? I'm not quite sure on what it does yet, but it could certainly lead to item clause in LC.
That rock flying could be one of the best LC pokemon this gen. It certainly will be interesting to see how this evolves.

The bug/eletric guy (adorabug to me xD) has that new ability that prevents the foe free eating berries, which will be amazing. Stopping Oran Berry will make much less of a threat, allowing it to get more 2hkos than a lot of Pokemon can even with meh stats. Ghost/Fire with Shadow Tag is gonna be quite the troll.

I am really excited to see the changes that the next gen brings to LC, especially with the addition of both entirely new pokes, as well as a whole slew of new abilities for old ones through dream world. Weather will play a huge part for sure, at least in the beginning.

Swimming Goggles, especially on Chinchou, is going to be huge. It's a shame no Little Cup Water-types learn Trick.

LC's gonna be totally different. I'm on my phone typing this, and I arrived at a shopping mall. Pokemon B/W is already in the store and I see it, except the shop doesn't open till 10:00 am. Another 90 minutes to kill.

I think that saying things like "Speed Boost Carvanha" may be getting ahead of ourselves. We don't know whether or not Dream World abilities will be available to level 5 Pokemon. If they are not then, #529 ( I think?) will be a very dominant force in the metagame. 85 base attack is very impressive, particularly when you factor in a probable STAB Earthquake and what can be an eternal +2 speed from a Sandstorm. While its other stats range from mediocre to bad, I suspect that that may be largely irrelevant due to its superb offensive capability. Of course, if Drizzle and Drought and other Dream World abilities are distributed, he may in fact just be "mediocre."

Magic Guard Abra seems like it would be good...if not for the fact that Drizzle and Drought make its 19 speed look kind of subpar. Same with Speed Boost Carvanha, though STAB Water-moves under Rain+Speed Boost could definitely hurt. Water Absorb Chinchou would add a layer of unpredictability to it, but really I would personally prefer Volt Absorb. It resists Water anyhow.

I don't think Vulpix will be a huge deal because it's Diglett bait and everyone's going to be carrying Hippopotas etc etc.

Anyway, I think #610 is probably my favorite mon ever. It's cute, has an awesome ability and awesome offensive stats. I'd probably use a Scarf set and dominate fools or a DD set for kicks.

I personally think LC will only be changed slightly, especially compared to OU.

It's important to note that there is NO user of Drizzle for LC at this point, which could definitely skew things one way or the other.

Yeah, honestly, I can just see rain totally going away at this point. With more mons that gain access to to chlorophyll and solar power as well as the new abilities sand throw and sand power the different weathers will probably be on a relatively close playing field without auto weather of any sort (rain should still maintain a slight advantage just because there are more/better mons that have swift swim). But this is thrown off because there are now mons that can summon sun, sand, and even hail, but nothing can set up permanent sun. And since this gen looks to be very weather-based, I anticipate that Vulpix, Hippopotas, and Snover will all be very common.

Well you do need to consider that Rain teams in fact destroy Sandstorm and Sunny Day teams (well Vulpix can't switch in, anyway).

I know i'd just be repeating what everyone else has said but.

Vulpix getting drought, i know, it's madness, the presence of SR will become even more important.

TR, never been a fan of TR, which no item boosting the length of it, i never had enough turns, BUT which these pokemon with these stats will be able to OHKO pokes.

Speed boost carvanha? WHAT. Carvanha is already a beast in LC and now it can't be revenge? I guess its up to croagunk to stop it...

Speed Boost torchic is a lot less worrying, because its well torchic..

#661? That is going to AWESOME, i love his stats and the idea of DD.
#566 is gonna be a premier scarf no doubt, i can't wait to see some new ones. >.>

What about the green Psychic blob? It has that sexy 105 base Special Attack (and 20 base Speed for Trick Room).
This gen is a tad too slow Little Cup wise imo.

Yeah, the highest speed stuff gets is 17.

If Dream World abilities are accessible it will be amazing but there will be a lot of movepool legality problems what with Pomeg Glitch + Gen IV TMs / tutors vs Gen V egg moves + dream world abilities vs. Gen IV stuff / Gen V egg moves.

I'm agree with this point. Rain will still be a top threat in the metagame like always but even more with the new swift swimmers..

Looks like who ever can set up SandStorm/Trick Room/Sunny Day first, is going to have a HUGE advantage, and the game may just be based on fighting to keep your effect up until you can sweep. And while I'm very curious about the new DW, but, like Vader said, we have no way of knowing if we can get pokemon at lvl 5 in the World. (I'd also like to point out, that even if we do, it may be set up in a way that you are unable to breed moves onto them, something very important in LC)

lol seriously the new standard item for vulpix should be shed shell (assuming we get to use drought vulpix in lc play). its ultimately the only viable item for vulpix if your going to use a full-blown out sunny day team. i'm thinking of using a defensive spread just for the sake of sending it out there to survive a hit and have the sun shine on the battle field.

as for other pokemon, baby spider seems like a good offensive pokemon with loads of potential. scarf or specs thunders will hurt anything - but this means chinchou will just rise in usage. snover is also another soft check for electric moves but it gets warded off by bug buzz. zorua is also another potent threat, but its rather unfortunate he doesn't get any form of priority. the set to abuse imo is crunch / brick break / hp ice / sub.

from a prediction standpoint, gligar is still going to be pretty useful in my opinion because it still holds 19 spe and boasts so many useful resistances and immunity. i think gligar will still hold the title for #1 lc mon.

in short, i'm AMPED for this metagame, lotta new faces (cute ones too)

I wonder if anyone will make a viable team without weather... I mean they give huge advantages...if you don't have a way to change the weather then you might be fucked -_-.
