new metalheads thread

sorry for the double post, but what genre is this?

i say rock/metalcore at best =//
sounds like traditional metal to me, maybe a small vibe towards power metal but not enough to get it into the genre. no idea where the fuck you're getting the metalcore vibe from

however the vocals are distracting me with their awfulness, they're really really shitty to be honest

oh fuck, both are equally terrible. i really don't like garage, inc. and really don't like any of the other big 4. when will they learn that the horse is well beyond dead now and they're still beating it. although death magnetic was one of their best albums post-black album...
How the fuck can you not like Slayer?

Their first five albums represent one of the greatest blocks of metal albums in history tbh. Every one is a different style of thrash, too, so they even provide variety.

Slayer is a little morbid for my taste, as well as very samey, in that everything is eb power chords, though t_d is into death so idk about him. I haven't listened to a lot (any) of anthrax, so I'll leave that, but megadeth and metallic are both amazing.

01. Kerry King is incredibly overrated. All of his guitar solos sound the exact same.

02. Just playing fast doesn't mean you have a good album.

Slayer's first two albums and Haunting the Chapel are good, everything after I don't care for. Reign in Blood is average, along with South of Heaven. Seasons in the Abyss sucks, save a few songs.

Anyway, happy birthday to heavy metal.

NP: Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

no one ever said Kerry King was amazing or that fast = good in this thread? at least not that i saw

also, Kerry King is not overrated, not because he's a great guitar player- he isn't- but because i haven't heard that many people claim him as such. maybe that's just me though.

also, just felt like posting to say Considered Dead > Obscura

You're very fortunate, I constantly hear people overrate Kerry. It is just as irritating as the Kirk Hammett praise.

Iron Maiden win the Grammy Award for Best Metal Album of 2010, with The Final Frontier. Good for them, now if only they would actually put out a good album again...

Because they've made approximately one good album ever (South of Heaven) and everything else they ever did was try-hard "dark and LOOK AT ME I'M SO FUCKING METAL" bullshit?

At least when Danzig did that sort of thing he did it in an interesting way, most Slayer albums might as well be the same song on repeat for 40 minutes.

what have I been diggin on lately, you ask?

Sepultura: Before they became lame groove metal, Sepultura put out some fantastic thrash and death metal. The death metal is pretty decent, but I especially love the thrash albums.

badass

Vomitory: Started listening to them a few weeks ago and they own. Nothing truly groundbreaking but it's still some great death metal.

Beneath the Remains, Schizophrenia and Morbid Visions are indeed awesome releases, Arise is good too but just reminds me of a weaker version of Beneath the Remains, on its own it's about as good as Morbid Visions though

i actually think Chaos AD was a pretty good album, Roots and after is trash though
What would everyone say Destroyer 666's best album is? I have Phoenix Rising already.
Cold Steel... For An Iron age is my favourite by a good amount. awesome black thrash album.

i know a lot of people prefer Unchain the Wolves but i just prefer Cold Steel's thrashier approach as opposed to Unchain's more epic black metal style.

page 2 bump

so i'm thinking of buying a drumset, but i don't know whether to buy an acoustic or electronic drumset. help?
I'm not a drummer myself but my brother is. Acoustic is probably better as it's easier to play, then again you can't turn an acoustic set down, my brother plays his in the attic with loads of insulation between him and my parents and they still hear it. Electric kits are still loud even with headphones in, but not as loud.

I can't comment much on electrics, only electrics I've ever seen have been utter crap, although if you're a beginner then whatever you get will be too.

As far as I can tell, acoustics are better, if you don't mind annoying the neighbours (Yay for living just outside town!)

Acoustic Kits take up more space, are louder and are generally less convenient. If any of those things are an issue for you then you might want to consider an electric kit. Otherwise, acoustic kits are way way better.

I saw Deicide on Tuesday. It was a cool show, nothing spectacular (as far as material goes) but they did play "Dead by Dawn" and "Dead But Dreaming". It is a shame Legion is too hard for them to play (save Steve), that or Glen, Jack, and Ralph are just lazy. Even though Deicide haven't released anything wowing in years, Deicide and Legion are always good listens. Anyone listen to the new album yet? It was Deicide, expected and usual stuff (repetitive), but better than their last couple of albums.

Hope to see Atheist next month, despite how much Jupiter sucks.
