dam, way to miss the point entirely

it isnt about power levels, it is about how to fight

in conceptual terms, it isnt about "depth" but "breadth"

they were only both many times better due to the type of their power, not the extent of their power

luffy simply couldnt damage croc due to logia or hurt magellan due to being hurt himself

also, cut your snippy shit or i will literally end you

Lol @ Kizaru being in a different tier to Aokiji/Akainu. The difference between Aokiji/Akainu/Kizaru is so small that for all intents and purposes they're pretty much equal. This isn't really a fair comparison either, for it to be fair it would have to be a situation like Kizaru fights evenly with Blackbeard but Blackbeard runs away from Akainu. I'm sure that Blackbeard would have run away from both Aokiji and Kizaru as well if they showed up instead of Akainu.

Not sure why Kizaru fighting equally with Marco is a point against him either, remember the Gorosei mentioned Marco as a possible successor to the gap that Whitebeard left in his death? Marco is ridiculously strong compared to the rest of the OP world...

Why does fujitora being a new admiral mean that he's weaker than the preskip admirals btw? Until we see more of him, it's reasonable to assume that he's on the level of preskip admirals since he holds the same title (innocent until proven guilty..).
agree with everything you said there; I guess people want to put akainu > aokiji cause he "won" the duel, but I thought myself that oda's implication was pretty clear that they were basically even

ugh... Current luffy and zoro stand no chance at taking on Fujitora, Kizaru, Marco, Rayleigh or Mihawk. We're halfway through the story, for Zoro to be approaching a tier that Mihawk resides in wouldn't make sense. Doflamingo is the only character in Tobes Lower Admiral Tier than I can see Zoro and luffy being close to.
lol, you know I don't believe in tiers at all, I just temporarily went with it (should have known better, etc.)

I can't agree or disagree here tbh...it's really hard to gauge. Oda hasn't really built a work where his characters train in arc and then power up...they're either already far ahead of the playing field (initial character strengths get luffy able to fight with a shichi), power up in-arc without training (water 7), or train off-screen (time skip).

It is the middle-ish of the story sure, but based on that pattern, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Luffy / Zoro were far ahead of the pack and able to at least entertain the admiral level fighters, and then in a later arc get an in-arc power up (doubting there will be another timeskip to make up some huge power gap) to beat them

Didn't we all see Aokiji effortlessly flash-freeze Doflamingo, and then when Doflamingo broke out he was panting like a madman? Doflamingo is very strong but he's still no big deal for characters of admiral calibre. Some serious Admiral-underrating is going on itt.....
Nigga it's op...panting basically means he's sleeping. If he had a hole in his body I would barely consider it :P

And let's be real, assuming that he is "no big deal for admirals" is as much of an assumption that he is a big deal...we really have no idea as to his power. http://www.mangapanda.com/one-piece/699/5 is the panting you are referring to, but he has a big ass smile on his face too so I'm not sure he's convinced he is in some completely overmatched position

i really do idolize the admirals because of the way oda has portrayed them so far in the series. even in the new world, fujitora was introduced as a character who is clearly above of everyone in the entire arc despite being surrounded by many big names on the island. they just feel like an obstacle you would conquer near the end of the series, not so much at a mid point of the series.

you bring up good points with luffy being at that level and its hard to argue against it, especially since the low admiral level seems like such a favourable position for luffy to earn before he even considers scrapping with big mom or any yonkou in general.
It's basically that and Oda's penchant to just making them strong enough usually, with some severe handicaps or in-arc non-training power ups occurring to keep the action going.

in my opinion, if luffy somehow manages to overcome flamingo convincingly without assistance, then he can earn that low admiral status. right now it just seems so unlikely because flamingo seems ahead of luffy based on his feats so far. not taking anything away from luffy though because i still believe that he has some untapped potential that oda is hiding from us, waiting for the perfect moment to blow our fucking minds. this is why a new power up seems necessary now more than ever, preferably something that can overcome them OP strings.
Why does it have to be convincingly? There is literally nothing that says DD isn't at least close to the admirals, even if he can't beat them. Shichibukai power levels are clearly huge, as Crocodile lost to a pre haki pre gears Luffy, and most people put Mihawk on Yonkou level, so I'd have to say that with minimal information, it's hard to assume he is or he isn't. I guess you could say that as the first major villain of the new world, "chronologically" he is the weakest...

them bitch ass strings is the only thing making flamingo seem clearly ahead of luffy IMO
Look, I'm not gonna lie, I'm just going to out and say it; I think Luffy is the single strongest character in all of One Piece.

Now that may seem crazy to you but here's my reasons:

1. One Piece is a shounen.
2. Luffy is the Main Character
STFU

In regards to a power list, I'm very interested where each of the Super Rookies is located. We've seen a lot of Luffy and a good amount of Law, but I keep wondering more and more about where X Drake, Kid, Hawkins, and the like match up against people like Marco, Kizaru, and Borsalino. X Drake is a particular interest to me. He curbstomped Caribou, and I really wonder what role he's going to play in the future. Will he be an ally or adversary to the Straw Hats? What exactly is his connection to Kaido? I can't wait for these questions to be resolved :)

I don't really understand why people put big mom among the same level as the admirals or not in the top tier. We really haven't seen much of her yet, but there's a reason she's a Yonko and owns a great deal of territory. I'm intrigued to learn just how dangerous she is.
cause shounen is for boys and girls can't be strong duh

also yes, Drake's plotline is very interesting to me, particularly to what Law hinted at pre timeskip about Drake slaughtering people...

I read this thread a lot so I would just like to pop in and say this.

Luffy trained for 2 years. I'll now divide this time into 4 equal parts of 6 months. In these first 3 parts, he was able to successfully learn everything that one of the most renowned pirates in existence had to teach.

1 part left. 6 months of time. I'm going to make an assumption that Luffy did not sit still for 6 months, or 25% of the time he trained for.

So far in the New World, or everything post time-skip, we have seen the results of Rayleigh's 18 months of training. Soon I think we will see the results of Luffy's 6 months of training. It will be glorious.

just for sake of strength level clarity _i guess_

it would make it clear that his strength is equal to or above flamingo's level if he beats him on his own. if he wins with assistance, his current strength level would somewhat be ambiguous. not to mention his next opponent will most likely be big mom and having that ambiguity in his strength level would leave plenty readers wondering how luffy is suddenly able to fight a yonkou, when he could not even manage to beat flamingo on his own

so for the sake of avoiding ambiguity, a solo win would convince me that he earned the low admiral status compared to a group win. although i think convincingly is pry the wrong word to use o well

I still hold that Law isn't losing because he's weak, but because Oda can't write a scheming good guy and made Law incredibly dumb this arc for no apparent reason

Jesus christ man so much bad ass in a chapter is kind of hard to handle.

It would seem that Kinemon and Zoro will be fighting the admiral while Luffy handles Flamingo. That's going to be a bit nuts.
Sanji's badass "permission to fire" line against Big Mam.

It seems like we're going lose Sanji, Nami, Robin, and Mono for a brief period of time and then they'll be reunited after the next arc is over. I think this is a good move by oda just because of the large number of characters to push out. I'm also confused what they actually plan to do with ceasar. They don't want to let him go -- maybe he'll just become a prisoner on the Sunny forever? Not quite sure.

Damn...

That was one of the best chapters in the history of One Piece, no question.

It feels good to be a One Piece fan sometimes.
hell yeah

this chapter was amazing. my personal favorite was sanjis moment. he's on a major roll this arc, confronting flamingo earlier on and directing an attack on big moms ship, while immediately acknowledging command on this mini group he has atm.

it's not often oda makes it as clear as he did this chapter that any of the m trio can be a captain in terms of strength and leadership

Quite an eventful chapter! I particularly like that Big Mom made a move; I didn't see that coming at all.

I'll add some more latter when I have time :)

I generally dislike the glorification of Sanji (post-timeskip, anyway), but I have to admit that he was pretty badass this chapter. Also great in this chapter; everyone else.

What's wrong with Sanji acting more like Zeff? That seems to be actually something that seems reasonable in character development (by far few characters have seen gross development). Sanji honored and respected Zeff more than himself, more than anyone, to see him mimic actions he himself would have probably done (keep calm under shitty situations, protect the lives of people, honor someone superior to him) is extremely profound.

I know I might get a lot of disagreement here but Sanji might be the character with the most depth, maybe tied with Robin and Nami.

Oda has been showing us for ages that Zoro can be a captain in terms of strength and leadership (being mistaken as the captain many times, his speech re: usopp rejoining etc.) but it's really awesome to see Sanji now getting a similar portrayal by acting as the pseudo-captain within his current group. I 100% agree that any of the M3 could easily be captain.

Sanji was a complete badass asking for authorisation to fire on Big Mam, although Thousand Sunny/Sanji's group shouldn't really stand a chance against Big Mam's ship, which leads me to believe we will either have:
  1. Coup de Burst or
  2. Another ship(s) showing up and intervening.
As for who could show up and intervene in the ship fight I see two main possibilities:
  • Kidd's alliance (because Kidd's been sinking Big Mam's ships recently, seems like his alliance is against her)
  • Kaido (If he has knowledge of Big Mam targetting one of his most valuable assets in Ceaser, I'm sure he wouldn't sit idly by considering how he moved against Whitebeard in the past before he was stopped by Shanks)
Kidd's alliance I see as far more likely though, 2 Yonkou forces and an Admiral seems wayyyy to much for one arc but man that would be epic. I couldn't see a den den mushi in the panel where Pekoms talks to Big Mam... I wonder if that means she's on the ship.

I really like Fujitora's sadness at having to turn his sword against the SHs. "What happened to this world..?" Awesome quote, he definitely reminds me of Aokiji a lot.

haha man, I would get such a hard on if kidd's alliance attacks big mam's ship, didn't even think of that, that would be incredible

Oh man, seeing the Kidd/Scratchman/Hawkins Alliance appear would be incredible! Assuming Law survives, I'd be particularly interested in seeing further interaction between Kidd, Law, and Luffy. I can't help but wonder what a battle between kid and Fujitora would be like. Electromagnetic force manipulation vs gravitational manipulation would be insane!

I'm unsure whether one of the Yonko will make a direct appearance. Pekoms did say "Mommy!! We have confirmed that Caesar is on their ship.", but it's too hard for me to tell if there was use of a den den mushi.

Kaido strikes me a a very opportunistic person. He tried to advantage of the Whitebeard war, but was intercepted by Shanks. The question is just how much he cares about his Smile situation. Obviously he cares about his artificial Zoan army, but is he irritated enough to final appear onscreen?

Finally with Fujorita, it seems that this is a man who very much adheres to moral justice. We've seen him compensate for property damage, call in marines in anticipation of civilian danger, and now outright be regretful when facing the Straw Hats. It's cool too see.

Exciting things are happening, and I can't wait for next week :)

If you look at her flag it appears that she is a giant bee. Yeah i mean she has a queen bee theme going and she actually has a bee paramecia. We all know it fits well enough blah blah, but if you look at her flag you actually see her transformed in her bee form! To really see it, start from the tree and imagine it as basically the background and really far away. You are looking at big mom flying towards you leaving the tree. When looking at it this way, Big Moms hair turns into a bees thorax. The skull/hat are the head connected to it. And what is supposed to be a bone "x" complete the picture and they become both the wings and the legs, connected to the thorax.

You're going to try a little on this one and see it as if the tree was supposed to be for depth.

everyone knows that the EM force is in general much stronger than gravitational force
Not really. In OP they are created by the same source, meaning they should be equal. There's really no difference, except Kidd should be able to fodderize Enel but is otherwise way more limited.

I'm interested to see what the difference between that fruit and the yami is. Isn't darknesss supposed to be gravity? Maybe it's the paramecia form of the yami.
