Post your searing hot takes

there's a subway directly next to a traditional italian deli (the type that has beef hinds hanging on the ceiling to dry) and some turkish store that sells sandwiches (not kebap, genuinenly sandwiches, but like with turkish ingredients like sucuk, olives, feta...) where I live and I don't get why people go to the subway. It's even more expensive than these two stores at this point and it tastes like garbo
Subway isn't THAT bad... but even then if I had to go to a sandwich shop I'm heading to Jersey Mike's all the time...

I haven't set foot in a Subway in at least half a decade. I'm not deliberately avoiding them; I just literally never want Subway over the other options available to me.
you clearly never go on interstates. I'd far prefer a decent sub over anything McDonald's has, because a decent sub is still pretty tasty.

Regarding Smash Kart (and honestly this take probably isn't very hot) the main reason Nintendo don't need to make a Smash Kart is because Smash Bros is right there and provides a much better platform for crossovers. For Mario Kart 8, Link and Isabelle were added as DLC so it makes more sense for them to add crossovers there, and the deluxe version including them as base means it makes more sense to add another crossover character (i.e. Inkling) to entice people to get the Switch version.

"Super Smash Kart" is such an abysmally stupid idea when Mario's world and its numerous offshoots haven't been even close to exhausted for playable character and track options across 8 mainline entries. Wario Land, Warioware, Donkey Kong Country, Luigi's Mansion, the Mario RPGs(!!!) and new mainline titles leave a surplus of stuff up for grabs that hasn't been already, we don't need to resort to Pokemon and more Zelda when King K. Rool, 9-Volt and Goombella racing on a P'illo Island course is still on the table among numerous other hypotheticals of that nature
I agree that we don't need other franchises in Mariokart but I think a kart racer-inspired Pokémon racing game would rule.

Could maybe take the name Pokéathalon and adapt it into a sorta triathalon-style racing game where every track is like the one-lap ones in MK7+8 and you have a few ride Pokemon (running, climbing, flying, and surfing maybe?) that you swap between at certain points in the race akin to Sonic and Sega All-Stars Transformed.

I could imagine a track where you race to the top of Mount Coronet and down through the Distortion World or something. Maybe the grand prix mode equivalent would be a marathon race around a region combining a few shorter tracks into one big track.

the Minecraft movie will be terrible, and there is nothing anyone can do to stop it.

Minecraft is not a setting that makes sense. minecraft is not a good setting for a story. as a former Minecraft obsessed kid who has red literally dozens of Minecraft books, I only ever read one that was remotely good, that being Minecraft: The Island, which
features a normal person isekaid into the Minecraft world and it directly acknowledges how nothing in the Minecraft world makes sense.
besides that, Minecraft: The Crash seems like it might be good, but minecraft apears to be nothing more than a game in that book. Minecraft is not a setting that works for a story if you play it straight, and it seems like that's what the movie will do. I don't think anyone on planet earth could salvage this movie. This film was doomed from the start.

On the bright side, it will probably be pretty funny, as Mojang is known for being really good at humor.

It will be horrible. I can't wait.

It's going to be one of those "so bad it's good" movies like gingerdead man vs. evil bong or something except it has an actual budget.

True! I recently learned that the opening to Frozen, Vuelie, is an adaptation of a form of traditional Sámi music known as joik (specifically the vuelie style). I already loved Frozen's Vuelie, and this makes it that much better to me.

To the unfamiliar, the Sámi are an indigenous group native to northern Norway, Sweden, Finland, and northwestern Russia. They are often known for their reindeer herding, beautiful clothing (ex.), and music. If you liked Frozen's vuelie, try this rendition of Daniel's joik!

the assumption that pokemon is being balanced for singles ruins discussion of rebalancing. farigiraf is a great doubles pick but almost no one would choose to make a girafarig function like that based on singles. things like chien pao, miraidon, iron bundle, and flutter mane are far less egregious in vgc settings. Singles and doubles are not comparable balance discussions, and game freak pays singles far less mind when deciding what is good and what isnt.

i dont think that assumption ruins discussion because i think that assumption should be true (i.e. they should balance for both singles and doubles), and complaining at gf for not holding to it is a valid, even if they won’t hold to it

if a mon is egregious in the format type that the great majority of players play (singles), that is poor design. thus i think it’s fair to complain about

however, despite that, i’m not mad at any of the pokemon that you listed. while i think gf should balance for singles (alongside doubles), i don’t think they should balance for specific fanfic metas like ou, and certainly not for ultra fanfic metas like ag (i say this as a former ag main), and super duper not for like true oms

further, “the legendary is too strong” strikes me as ”theoretically” a kinda silly complaint. like the lore-very strong pokemon should be okay to be battle-very strong. if theres a more specifically grounded complaint like, “miraidon is so much stronger than past mascots and that feels unbelievable or silly”, sure, i vibe with that complaint (see also zacian). however, in a vacuum, i don’t care that flutter mane is too strong for ou, just ban it

in practice i recognize that singles is kinda cheeks these days and that powercreep is a prt of it, but i blame general design philosophies / trends (or gimmicks) and not specific pokemon for that

theres not that many individual, specific pokemon i would complain about as being unbearable for singles in general. in general = not specifically unbearable in a fan tier(s). maybe mega sableye is a good example to complain about here, if a bit antiquated. just generally an annoying prick most people hated. E.g. bss do be official and not fanfic so maybe those players could add more

in sum, gf should balance to keep all its official metas bearable, and in addition it should keep the default non-official meta (i assume?) of “6v6 no broken guys” (‘broken guys’ is flexible) bearable

3D collectathons are a fine genre but I am very glad it didn't last for very long

When the default answer when asking what the goal of a game should be in this genre is "making it bigger", then you have a genre that's ultimately very unsustainable. Games like Banjo-Tooie or DK64 could've been great, but the need to stretch these games out far beyond their limits made them a lot worse

Also, some of these games haven't aged as perfectly as some think. Mario 64 is still a wonderful game, but it has some issues with its camera, some of the stars are boring and the stages are oftentimes not equipped to carry so much content. The mushroom hill level for example, it's just running up the mountain over and over. Tik Tok Clock is also just running up the clockwork
