this is exactly why we can't have nice things. one person makes an offhanded comment or a tongue-in-cheek joke proposal and, like clockwork, ten million shitters immediately crawl out of the primordial sludge unironically advocating for it, and i somehow end up being the bad guy for saying "we shouldn't bother considering this nonsense and here's an itemized list of reasons why"I don't know why Shaymin-Sky is being seriously discussed again. The post asked for a council quick vote, likely half as a joke. This is likely not to happen, and even less likely (read: zero) is an actual whole ass suspect.
https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9ou-2162778793 (definitely not me twice)Can you show me one game above 1200 in OU where Tera Ground Kommo-O encounters a Thundurus, let alone one with Tera Blast Water?
With all due respect — and I’m starting to doubt much is due, a lot of people play the tier regularly at progressing levels and offer real metagame insight. Your posts seem to be unrelated tidbits of tangential information that doesn’t involve the metagame whatsoever.
Also not above 1200https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9ou-2162778793 (definitely not me twice)
It was a joke :(Also not above 1200
No way we got terrorism happening on the OLT ladder
I also approve of metagross. Used it a few months back on a HO team with custap berry and e-quake instead of knock and it put in the work. I actually passed the team to somebody else and they won with it in 1800s, which I did not expect to happen.Homophobic based insults in the OU thread is a new one. Do not approve! Let's talk about this:
Metagross @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Clear Body
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Explosion
- Knock Off
- Meteor Mash
I've been having a lot of fun with Metagross as a lead recently. Its very nasty to physical rock setters and can be used to mash a bit button before perishing. Tera Normal for the really fucking niche off chance I gotta click a very fat trade that I don't really have much other Tera use for. Tera Steel also have some fun calcs of just shitting shit like Scizor but much worse. It's funny!

This is the team if anybody wants to use it.

The Metagross set you've mentioned with Custap Berry is interesting and has some potential in the Gen 9 OU metagame, but there are a few considerations to keep in mind:
Overall, this set can be effective in Gen 9 OU with its ability to surprise opponents with Explosion and its strong STAB moves. Just ensure it fits well within your team's strategy and covers its weaknesses adequately.
- Custap Berry Usage: Custap Berry allows Metagross to move first when its HP drops below 25% in that turn. This can be crucial for pulling off a surprise Explosion or finishing off a weakened opponent.
- Move Choices:
- Explosion: A powerful STAB move that allows Metagross to go out with a bang, dealing massive damage. It's particularly effective against opponents that might otherwise wall it.
- Earthquake: Provides coverage against Steel-types and other Pokemon that resist Explosion, such as Heatran and Excadrill.
- Bullet Punch: Priority STAB move that helps pick off faster threats or weakened opponents. Useful for revenge killing.
- Meteor Mash: Primary STAB move that also has a chance to raise Metagross's Attack stat, making it even more threatening.
- EV Spread: The spread of 160 HP / 252 Atk / 96 Spe with an Adamant nature seems designed to maximize Metagross's offensive capabilities while outspeeding certain threats. The HP EVs likely provide bulk, while the Speed EVs may allow it to outspeed specific threats at base 70 Speed or less.
- Potential Adjustments:
- Nature: Consider Jolly nature if you want to outspeed more threats, especially those in the base 80 Speed tier after investment.
- Coverage: Depending on your team composition and the current metagame trends, you might want to adjust moves like Earthquake or Bullet Punch for different coverage options like Zen Headbutt (for Fighting-types) or Pursuit (for Psychic-types).
- Team Synergy: Metagross with Custap Berry functions best when it can capitalize on surprise factor or when you have ways to weaken opposing Pokemon to activate Custap Berry reliably. Teammates that can weaken walls or handle Metagross's checks (like Fire-types and bulky Ground-types) are beneficial.

I sense A.I…..I appreciate your perspective on this matter. Your points about the limitations of AI-generated content are well taken. It's true that tools like ChatGPT can only synthesize existing information, often missing the nuanced understanding required for in-depth discussions, especially regarding specific game dynamics and matchups.
Relying on AI for posts can indeed dilute the quality of our conversations, as it tends to produce generalized content that might not add substantial value. Our community thrives on the unique insights and detailed analyses that come from individual experiences and expertise.
While AI can be a useful tool for many purposes, maintaining the integrity and richness of our discussions is crucial. I'll make sure to keep this in mind and contribute with my own thoughts and knowledge to ensure our forum remains a valuable resource for all. Thanks for the reminder and for fostering an environment where genuine, thoughtful discussion is prioritized.
(Pls no ban)
Just wanna add to this that it's also explicitly against global rules, so it's not just a common sense/courtesy/obviously-going-to-suck thing. Not pointing any fingers at anybody, but this ChatGPT comment makes me want to state something for posterity as a general rule of thumb: please do not use AI to write your posts.
For those wondering why, beyond just simple courtesy, ChatGPT and similar AI software’s data collection and synthesis methods regurgitate already publicized and stated information, worsened by not really understanding the nuance involved with specific subjects. Thus, this makes ChatGPT incapable of sharing any truly original thought. Set choices and the dynamics certain Pokemon have with one another in the context of specific game states/matchups are omitted completely, since you’re only going to be dealing with aggregated surface level information from surface level sources that cause it to generalize what it finds. This means that effectively you’re going to just get meaningless slop for your post that adds nothing no matter how you slice it.
Obviously, nobody can really say who is using AI to generate posts or not in an objective fashion. But, for the sake of actually having discussion that actively adds insight and builds knowledge bases, using AI to make your post isn’t going to provide anything of value. So, please don’t. Thanks!
I fully expect sub kyurem to dominate wcop and olt because kyurem is pretty busted and the ability to fish for freeze and special defense drops behind a sub is actually super filthy. Makes darkrai getting a dark pulse flinch look tame in comparison when kyurem can roll the dice to freeze with freeze dry or drop special defense with earth power.Underrated Threats I Expect To See In OLT
Specifically DD kyurem. DD special had a moment but physical has kind of taken a backseat. I predict more icicle spears will be coming our way.
OR
Depending if kyurem gets a lot of usage we will probably see either A (no kyurem) or B (lots of Kyurem). To expand on this I think calm mind users are underrated right now as special bulk that also hits hard can be tough to take down
Bulk up tusk is a bit underrated right now and all it needs is an unexpected tera type. How about fairy?
