Anyway, what are everybody thoughts on Kamala's promise to appoint a Republican to her cabinet if she wins?

I hate it. Stupid as hell unnecessary pandering. I hope she is lying and doesn’t appoint any. Republicans would never appoint a Democrat to the cabinet. There is no benefit. Opposition will politically stab you in the back any chance they get.
There are a few Republican politicians that are “okay” in the sense that they aren’t fascists. Doesn’t mean they should be given an opportunity to fuck up the Democratic agenda. This reeks of slimy DC Democratic political consultants at work.

it's
common to have a member or two of the other party in the cabinet. This is most often in a defense/intelligence position or veteran's affairs position, if you're a Democratic president. Harris could absolutely have a Kinzinger type in mind. She certainly doesn't mean anyone who's MAGA lol. Trump didn't really continue this trend and technically speaking neither has Biden in his cabinet, but there was a good string of this between Carter and Obama and
if you dig into it further Kennedy, Nixon, Eisenhower, etc. all did too.
Biden currently has Jerome Powell as head of the Fed, renominated from Trump (not technically cabinet but close enough).
Obama had Mueller and Comey in intelligence, as well as actual cabinet secretaries Bob Gates and Chuck Hagel as Secretary of Defense, Bob MacDonald at the VA, and Ray LaHood at Transportation (not all at the same time).
Clinton had Alan Greenspan at the Fed and Louis Freeh at the FBI, as well as actual cabinet member William Cohen as Secretary of Defense.
Carter had William Webster at the FBI and James Schlessinger as the first Secretary of Energy (previously in Nixon's cabinet at Defense)
Bush Jr had Norman Mineta at Transportation, previously in Clinton's cabinet for a brief stint as Secretary of Commerce
Bush Sr had Lauro Cavazos at Education
Reagan had Robert Volcker at the Fed (renominated from Carter)
So definitely more common for Ds, especially Obama, but traditionally Rs have done it too. If you count the Fed, Reagan and Biden both would count too. Pre-Trump, you have to go back to Gerald Ford, and before that to Woodrow Wilson to find presidents whose administrations did not have a significant position filled by a member of the opposing party.
