Game Freak hit with another hack, info leaking

Before Fairy, Electric had the most claim to the "light" motif so I imagine that might have been the idea, Moonlight. I think if Cresselia was in a Fairygen it'd definitely be at least part Fairy, but I think they did want it to be weak to Darkrai as well so maybe not.

If I had to guess GF played with it being part Electric because part of Cresselia's design basis are auroras which are created via an electromagnetic phenomenon; charged ion particles from space collide with atoms and molecules in the atmosphere which generate light (different atoms & molecules give off different colors of lights).

Another possibility I thought of would concern if Cresselia was created before Rotom. If Cresselia was created first, or at the very least Rotom wasn't assigned an Ability yet, in this theory GF could have already decided Cresselia's Ability being Levitate and maybe were playing with an idea of a having an Electric-type Levitate Pokemon. All the bonuses of an Electric-type, (literally) none of its weaknesses (or rather sole weakness). However, maybe wanting a more "solid" parallel between Cresselia and Darkrai (hence Cresselia not having Fairy-type even though it would fit it), Levitate would be given to Rotom.

Oh dear me, I just saw beta Simisear.
Simisear in final is a true tragedy

Gets me Simisage was a yankee delinquent at first, though final barely tweaks it. Still is the best design of the 3

Simipour...is still very plain sadly

You know, looking at beta Simisear and Simipour, I wonder if we're actually seeing the true beta Simisage.

Beta Simisear's difference is obvious, it's a big ol' chubby boy. Beta Simipour doesn't seem that different at first, but I think the length of its "dress" is more telling than we think. Final Simipour its a dress, but if you consider how short it is on beta Simipour and consider what else it could be, AND you consider they were specifically designed for Gym Leaders who were waiters... yeah, beta Simipour is wearing an eating bib. It's not a thin & tall girl, it's a snooty foodie.

So with that take, we have the food-loving chubby Simisear, the picky-eater bib-wearing Simipour... and bosozuko Simisage? I now wonder if maybe Simisage had already gone through a theme shift of separating the Elemental Monkeys from their associated Gym Leader (because while a fun visual, the Elemental Monkeys do need to stand as their own Pokemon apart from the Gym Leaders). Thinking how Simisage's tall hair could relate to a food theme, I wonder if maybe there's an original Simisage where the hair was actually more of a chef's hat (and when they decided to make them more generic, it was easier and funnier to change it to being hair like bosozuko culture). So we'd have the top chef Simisage, food critic Simipour, and general food-lover Simisear.

May apparently is a gamer according to late 2001 char docs. Not sure if her catchphrase is in the anime...

https://tcrf.net/Development:Pokémon_Ruby_and_Sapphire/Character_Profiles

Wally is further confirmed to have been intended to have a Ponyta, before Ralts line took over. He was also initially planned to be a Gym Leader later for Mossdeep city

Archie is more noble in the docs along with, Maxie on the other hand was more underhanded in being a Devon Corp employee besmarching Archie (and his 12 allies) rep

Final kinda fucked up these 3...

Wallace's gym was initially Ice Type (which makes the Ice puzzle suddenly make more sense), but almost immediately in that doc lists it as a water gym as well. This likely sadly was cuz many Ice type mons from Nov-Feb 02 were scrapped due to the little amount areas that can house them RIP Glacia

Wally being initially planned to be the Mossdeep Leader is kind of fascinating end point. I can see why they axed it, it's a pretty sudden leap, though I wonder if maybe in the early planning days they had the idea of Wally having more events throughout the game instead of just Petalburg, Mauville, Verdanturf (technically) and then Victory Road.

Also seems like Mossdeep's idea was up in the air for a while. The August 2002 documents have the gym listed as a Bug or Grass type gym but the same document's profile for Leader Wally has him listed as Psychic, meanwhile his signature Pokemon would have been Ponyta/Rapidash.

Out of curiosity are there any documents about Juan in Emerald? Even ignoring how it feels odd to replace the water leader with another, similar water leader his overworld sprite is a complete mistmatch of his actual design and also is just an edit of Steven's sprite. Which is pretty weird for a game that otherwise had no qualms making all new sprites for their new characters. Kind of feels like a late decision to have him and was wondering if maybe there were docs that corroborated that

There is sadly little to no Em stuff. The Gen 4 docs have some inklings of RS and FRLG mockups (one showing a sprite for Blaziken based on March art!), but Em (and Em scratchpads) aren't here (look in Combusken's entry)

March 02 art

This implies Combusken's design was finished or added AFTER Blaziken's. Given Combusken still didn't have its name in the April list while Blaziken did, this is likely...

The Leaker admitted that Gen 2 and 3 stuff in general was a fluke, the target was mainly 4 on

Similarly the only reason we have Gen 3 Graphics logs was due to them being personally Yoshida's, who was the Graphics lead Gen 3. Same for Crystal scratchpads (sonething he and Ohta were tasked with)

There was definitely going to be some sort of Bike subplot or something that the Mach/Acro split is the only remnant of, right? Both protags are bike geeks, Rydel is not only a character but has 2 assistants with personalities, that feels like they were really looking to give us something heavily focused on the bike.

Wait, he did? I honestly can't remember anything about them, what were their personalities

Ngl I'm surprised to see mothim and dustox had a scrapped gen 4 story as well!

Unlike the other ones, this one's actually pretty wholesome! I'm pretty sure this one got axed due to the non straight implications of the moths' relationship (or at least the way it's worded). But still, I'm glad my bois' didn't try to enact a messed up yo kai tale.

Aww what a cute story ^^.

I agree on your theory of the story having implications of two dudes being more than "friends" hence why it was cut, even if Dustox can be any gender in the games, it's design has some more "masculine" or masculine themes in our eyes compared to its counterpart beautifly maybe if they changed the pokemon to beautifly it'll be less noticeable but oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I really, truly don't think this was cut due to Gay Panic. It probably would have just been rewritten so the wurmple was explicitly a girl and leave out the "didn't matter if it was a wormadam/mothim", not cut entirely. Like how they kept some of the other stories but in a much more abbreviated, less gruesome or sexual form.
They probably just didn't think it was as interesting a tale to allude to like the ones where people & pokemon were the same or the ones where people killed pokemon.

Just remembered there was a cut penguin pokemon called "penpin" iirc and it was supposed to have a bowling ball and bowling pin dynamic with spheal as walruses are predators to penguins. Which while funny, I guess was cut when GF was trying to think of an evolution for Spheal or that penpin seemed to irrelevant or design was too basic? But then again there is Eiscue.. (Tbh I also noticed that most penguin pokemon names feel uncreative ngl like eiscue is just ice cube but remove "b" and keep the ice pronounciation but make it spelled differently)

Yeah I think it was probably cut once they decided Spheal would evolve; likely Penpin didn't lend itself as well in their eyes while keeping the theme for both of them. And Spheal's a real cutie so if one's gotta go....probably easy to see why the goofier Penpin took its leave.

I can also see them thinking maybe the idea was a little too cute for its era. I could see them revisit the conceit later on, where they're fine chasing goofier ideas, but this was following gen 2 where they pulled back on other conceits (Murkrow being even more explicitly witchy, Remoraid & Octillery looking far more like a Gun and Tank, Delibird being even more like santa in aesthetic, etc).

Also probably didn't help that, honestly? It looked more like a chicken than a penguin. A few more design passes probably could have helped but if they wanted to emphasize the Bowling Pin idea more than its a penguin, it'd have only gone so far.

Personally I like Eiscue's name (I also feel like the "cue" works as a cueball with how the regular head looks bald as a cue ball aside from its one singular hair) but I wonder what the Japanese name is...
Korippo may be a combination of 氷 kōri (ice) and 立方 rippō (cube).
Oh. Well go figure.

Looking forward to the planned updates and patches for SV next year because the leaker didn't want to reveal anything regarding SV because he said that there's some future patch data that if he showed them it would cause huge issues for Game Freak naturally. What do you guys think these updates/patches will be?

- Adjusting moves or abilities?
- Adding new TMs? (229 is a weird number to end it on)
- Adding more old Pokémon through HOME?

Maybe they'll actually bother to let ZA and SV actually properly connect.

It has been nearly a year since Mochi Mayhem, the officially declared epilogue of SV came out. We are not getting any sort of substantial content update, Game Freak is done with Paldea and moving on.

If there's anything worth hiding I can only think of two options:
-Legends Z-A tie-in Tera Raid events (Shiny Kalos starters? Future Mega recipients?)
-SV will be among a batch of Switch games receiving "next gen" graphical upgrades for the Switch 2

We have two more years of VGC so there's definitely be patches and the leaker said there are some patches for the future.
