Is this much fanfare for a Pokemon Day Presents normal? Legitimately asking cuz I have totally forgotten the leadup to previous ones and I don't seem to remember any of them doing anything like a countdown with all these different themesThread reposting the Japanese countdowns for the presents this year

If I'm remembering right there was the year they did legendary-focused art pieces for each region + isle of armor & crown tundra and the other year they did "notable moments" art pieces from each generation, like the encounter at the Lake of Rage.Is this much fanfare for a Pokemon Day Presents normal? While I think it is reasonable to expect "Z" to stand for "Zygarde" and "A" for some other Pokémon, since the previous Legends game was named after Arceus, somehow I think it shouldn't be taken for granted either. It could refer to something else, like other Pokémon, NPCs, game mechanics, or even story lines. After all, Z-A can be read "Z to A", as in "the alphabet backwards", or something happening in reverse order. There might be an element of travelling backwards in time involved here.My only real requests for Z-A are Eternal Flower Floette finally being available and "A" referring to a new Legendary.
The main thing indicating the A is a new Pokemon (to me anyway) is its stylization in the logo. The Z very clearly represents Zygarde with its black-and-green hexagons, but the A doesn't look at all like any existing Pokemon. While I think it is reasonable to expect "Z" to stand for "Zygarde" and "A" for some other Pokémon, since the previous Legends game was named after Arceus, somehow I think it shouldn't be taken for granted either. Despite the fact that I agree the A-legendary is most likely a thing, I think you have a point too. The title may very well be a reference to Gen 6 leitmotiv which was Infinite itself. This title is similar to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire after all: end and begining, eternal cycles, etc. While I think it is reasonable to expect "Z" to stand for "Zygarde" and "A" for some other Pokémon, since the previous Legends game was named after Arceus, somehow I think it shouldn't be taken for granted either. In this case I think it was a marketing move for the IP at large. GTA or Elder Scrolls need the games out to sell and monetize them, but Pokemon thrives on conversation and getting people hyped for multiple related projects. Z-A teased Megas hard, a very popular feature in gameplay and creature design that has been out of the limelight for close to a decade, and all manner of communities have speculated on what their return could mean (how do old Megas with new stuff play, new Megas to buff more Pokemon, will we see them in more games besides Z-A come Gen 10?!).It has been one year since Z-A was first shown. Afterwards, we have heard absolutely nothing more about the game, and I'm having mixed feelings about that. One one hand, it was nice for them to basically say "no new Pokémon game in 2024". On the other hand, revealing the game last year just feels pointless when I look back at it. They could at least have shown some kind of gameplay video a few months after the reveal. Compare this to say, GTA VI, which was also announced very long before its release, but it did at least have a proper trailer in the announcement.
I'm hoping we'll see some gameplay this time around. There are so many things I want to know about the game, and getting the answers to some of them will be nice. As for the presents itself, I won't watch it live, I'll just catch up on the news afterwards.
My predictions:Time for wild, largely baseless speculation and people getting angry about decisions that may or may not be made, baybeeeeeeee
I was with you until the last part because cheesing catches in Legends Arceus is significantly easier than fighting Pokemon lolI have hopes and dreams for Legends Z-A but the only prediction I'm really counting on is Alpha Megas. It's such an obvious, simple, fun way to implement Mega Evolution into a single player game that I'll genuinely be stunned if they don't do it. They could even do it so that if you defeat the Alpha Mega it has a small chance of dropping its Mega Stone but if you catch it it'll be guaranteed to have the Mega Stone as its held item, incentivizing coming back when you're strong enough over cheese strats
I think it’s going to be absolutely hilarious for Pokémon fans to think their games are relevant for one day, just to get smacked in the face with the greatest reality check you’ve ever seen and immediately get overshadowed by Monster Hunter Wilds the very next day. I’ve been waiting until the night before the presentation to post this. Not that it affects me since I’ll be missing this, and even if I didn’t have a work meeting when this is airing I’d still rather be at my new job I just started on Monday than get my hopes up after the complete joke that was Pokémon’s 2024 calendar year.
Is this post a little bit harsh? Absolutely. But I want to put my foot down while I still can and reflect on my disappointment with the last Presents and the lack of a second 2024 presentation. We already know that upwards of 60 percent of this presentation will consist of information for the mobile and/or free-to-play games, and save for more specific reveals people might be waiting for about anime or TCG projects, nothing last year or this year will be worth my time, and I fully expect that the lack of information we’ve gotten about Pokémon Legends ZA will finally catch up to it, too little too late as the game just isn’t relevant to casual or hardcore audiences anymore. The game may still sell decently, I suppose- it is Pokémon after all, but I predict content creators or the most diehard Kalos fans will be the only people that still care about this game by the time it finally releases.
Oh, who am I kidding. You’re absolutely right, this (referring to my post) is anti-copium from yours truly at its absolute finest. Truth be told to everyone here, I’ve been on a bit of a negativity hot streak over the past two nights after work, not because I hate my job (the opposite, actually) but because I’ve gotten so burned out with Pokémon that it’s started leaking out onto my posts and the occasional YouTube comment. And when I put it that way, I think what I’m trying to say here is that I really want to have a reason to be optimistic about Pokémon but nothing has scratched that itch for me. I would love to come back from my meeting tomorrow during my lunch break to good news, both figuratively and literally.this is like the opposite of pokemon fan copium. anti pokemon fan copium. im sorry to say but between legends z-a and wilds the game most likely to stay relevant after a year will be pokemon. especially because wilds is an AAA wannabe that has the worst needed specs known to man and i feel like they shot themselves in the foot with that (i dont think itll make them flop, but i think it will alienate some fans tbh)
One thing that has happened in the internet age is people put themselves in the Burnout Machine towards hobbies / interests because they feel like they have to be constantly into it, and then when they inevitably burnout they become insanely cynical about itPeople have got to learn how to walk away from things
pokemon can feel difficult to walk away from due to how omnipresent it is but really i think itd be good to just take a break yeah. enjoy wilds (if u can. wilds devs ill fucking get you what the fuck are those specs), enjoy other games and non game stuff. give yourself a proper break even, whether it be months or years or whatever. pokemon will always be around to pick up when you feel like itEdit: @R_N is right in the post below, maybe I just need to walk away for a bit. That could be healthy for me.
Even aside from the competitive aspects or burn out, I think being in certain communities for a length of time tends to exacerbate things too...One thing that has happened in the internet age is people put themselves in the Burnout Machine towards hobbies / interests because they feel like they have to be constantly into it, and then when they inevitably burnout they become insanely cynical about it
I remember when for like a year and a half I thought I "grew out of Pokemon" and then after that break I played EoS, USUM, SMD, GTI, etc. and became honestly probably way more into it than I had before.
This is something I notice in the competitive Splatoon community where people play a shit ton, people will get tired of it after it practically being a part-time job for months and then act like it's the devs fault for not keeping it interesting lol.
i tried the mh demo and what fucked me up is that the game doesn't even look that goodpokemon can feel difficult to walk away from due to how omnipresent it is but really i think itd be good to just take a break yeah. enjoy wilds (if u can. wilds devs ill fucking get you what the fuck are those specs), enjoy other games and non game stuff. give yourself a proper break even, whether it be months or years or whatever. pokemon will always be around to pick up when you feel like it
