Pokémon Presents - Pokémon Day 2025 - Pokemon ZA Info & Pokemon Champions Announced

I think there's a fair chance we're seeing Z-A again in the Switch 2 Direct, as they're showcasing the enhancements for old games. If I were to guess which kinds of improvements this game could get, I'd say:

Basic, low effort option: 60fps and high resolution support;
Reasonable but not guaranteed: fancy new lighting effects;
Not happening: 3D balconies, the 2D ones has way too much aura to be replaced.

Also PLA with high-resolution textures and better draw distance would fix me as a person

Same here, but with SV! If bugs and performance were fixed by Switch 2's power, I'm pretty sure many more people would be able to enjoy everything it has to offer, which is quite a lot IMO.

I really think it's not too late to fix that, as Gen X will release in late 2026 most likely, so SV will continue to be the traditional mainline games until then. Still one year and a half - that's really a lot of time.

I don't think we'll see more of PLZA considering how the last trailer was barely a week ago. Maybe just a little glimpse, like you said? Five-ten seconds or so to show how it looks. No new content.

I think the odds of it happening are decent because theres 7 hours of nintendo treehouse stuff split between the 2 days after the direct. would be a perfect opportunity to show off gameplay.

I think PLZA and games like Metroid Prime 4 will likely get shown off and a release date, since they were likely waiting for the switch 2's release date to be officially out there first, that and to show off the better visuals.

granted if they don't there will probably be a trailer at the end of april anyway.

I think performance is pretty much a given, since you can already get a stable 30fps on an overclocked Switch, but I'm not holding my breath for any big visual improvements or bug fixes. I think it's more reasonable to expect the bare minimum for those upgrades

Hm, maybe, though I wouldn't call it a give-in.

If I were to put money on the game they would want to do a side-to-side showcase with, it would be Metroid Prime 4. That game already looks gorgeous on Switch, so it would be the perfect example to show how much better it'll look on Switch 2.

Besides, you remember how Pokemon tried to impress us the last time? You know, the "Bidoof Incident".

I was gonna say the only times pokemon games have been rereleased are on virtual console, but at the same time thats because they've been handheld games. This is the first time pokemon is experiencing a console transition, so maybe they will rerelease updated SWSH. though id prefer if they did so with dlc included........

Unlikely. Pokemon games aren't the thing you re-buy with just a graphic liftup when you can actually still obtain them on the og hardware (and Switch 2 is going to have retrocompatibility anyway).

The reason Virtual Console games (and remakes) happened is because the hardware to play the originals, as well as the originals themselves, have became almost impossible to come by, and Nintendo knows that there are people who for some reason are still willing to buy games from 20 years ago.

SwSh (and SV) is different. If you want to play it on Switch 2 you just... use the copy you already have. The games aren't good enough to have a significant enough amount of people who are willing to re-buy them just cause they have 5 fps more and the trees don't look from PS2 era.

Yeah I expect most retouched Switch 1 games will get 60 fps patches, maybe very marginal lighting/texture improvements and that's about it. If there's anything equivalent to fully fledged "next generation" upgrades in the works those are almost certainly being reserved for... honestly, probably literally just Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom. Can't think of any other first party release that's simultaneously mainstream and "prestige" enough

The way you word this makes it sound like remakes and re-releases aren't a common or popular thing lmao. That or you have some weird agenda against retro games.

From my (limited) understanding, games with uncapped framerates won't strictly need performance patches since the Switch 2 will just run them better by default. Mario Odyssey in particular is already programmed to lower the resolution when necessary to keep its framerate consistent, so those drops will probably be less common.

There's rumors of Gamecube NSO being a thing finally on the Switch 2 and I hope Game Freak puts Colosseum and XD Gale of Darkness on there, even if my wallet will be mad at me.

I also think it is funny how stingy they are about putting the old pokemon games on virtual console, that it took until the 20th anniversary for them to even put gen 1-2 on 3ds, and iirc they are all in the top 10 best selling eshop titles. Wonder if they just consider it a "hack to make lots of money out of nowhere" button.

I have some weird agenda with people obsessed by rose tinted glasses view on old games and pretending that without the nostalgia factor those games would be any good and not shot down as trash, and some of those happen to be Pokemon fan :wo: but that's a thing for another day.

Regardless, my point was that such factor only works for games that are both old and with availability issue. I won't say "noone", but the amount of people willing to re-buy a full price SwSh for the sake of seeing 5 fps more is unlikely to provide any profit big enough to justify a "switch 2 version".

seems incredibly unlikely given that there's full backwards compatibility, this isn't a Wii U -> Switch situation.

Switch 2 Direct link, it should air in a little over an hour.

Honestly, I don't expect much of a difference besides maybe some Resolution/FPS bump due to better hardware. It'll be like playing PS4 games on PS5 at best, and GC games on Wii at worst.

For example, Korok Forest may not make the Switch 2 melt in BotW because the hardware is stronger. That's about it.

Ngl I am looking forward to play the Orre games BUT there's no universe where those + 5 more FPS for ZA justify the 450€ overhead.
I am also very annoyed they decided that "btw gamecube games are NS2 only, sucks to be you". I know, capitalism and all, but still.

Switch 2 will still wait for me until we get a exclusive pokemon game for it.
That or they do a package sale with ZA where the game ends up costing less than half of the price, like they're doing for Mario Kart (jesus what the hell is that 90$ price tag though...)

yeah I wasn't expecting the game to cost 80 bucks, that's a lot

I'm probably going to buy the console because of all the other stuff they announced for it but 450 usd is pretty steep.
