Want to rant about your crap laptop or boast about your expensive gamer computer? Here's where.

TBH, my computer can play games, yet it can't play that well. TBH, I'd love to have an awesome gaming specified computer, but I'd never get the cash. :P Everything non-game related is up to standard, though. :)

except a few slow-downs when trying to open too much stuff and on very crowded places on wow, i am pretty happy with my computer.

I'm never happy. For a laptop that I got for $900 after tax over a year ago though, it's pretty damn good.

2.0 GHz Core Duo
2x512MB of RAM (upgraded to 2x1GB for $65)
256 MB GeForce Go 7600
120 GB HDD

Right now, I'm not. I'm currently sitting on the following:

AMD Mobile Turion 64
512 MB RAM
Radeon 200M Graphics
80GB HDD

Though, as of Friday, I'll be stepping up to new desktop system, which I'm ecstatic about.

Intel Core2Duo Q6600
2GB RAM
Geforce 9600GT
320GB HDD

My PC could just use a Video Card upgrade and another gig of RAM. GeForce440s just don't cut it anymore >_>. Mostly due to the lack of Pixel Shader support (No Portal, TF2, ectect). Other then that, my rig has held up incredibly well over the years, especially when it comes to gaming. HL2 on the highest end settings (minus ant-aliasing) at 35+ FPS is just wow.

My specs almost exactly, although I paid a bit more because it has a larger screen. I mine came with 512 MB RAM, and I added another 1 GB stick for $35. I'm considering replacing the 512 MB stick with a 2 GB one since that would also cost $35. DDR2 memory is really cheap these days.

I'm pretty content with my current setup, but the fact that my external hard drive enclosure recently died (making my 500 GB hard drive unusable until I purchase a new one) has made me sad. I still have more than 30 GB of free space on my internal drive, though; the main problem is that I have a lot of data on that drive that I can't access now. And I don't have room for stuff like this.

I'm able to run the old Source engine at mid settings (DX 9) with 1680x1050 at 60-80. With the new Source engine, I run at min settings (DX 8) with 1280x800 to get 60 FPS. This isn't really a bad thing, and I could probably get away with running at higher settings if I didn't use wide resolution.

The only resource-heavy non-Source game I've tried is Bioshock 1.0, which I can get bearable framerates on if I'm using min settings and 600x400 resolution.

By the by, now would be a really great time to buy more memory if you don't have enough right now. You can get 2 GB modules for under $50 unless you have a crazy high clock speed.

My PC sucks. It's five and a half years old, only had 256 MB of RAM and 20 GB hard drive. I have to keep burning my pictures onto DVDs to free up space, and in the process lost my photographs of my Las Vegas trip on January 11-12, 2007 due to misplacing files. I really, really want a new one

At the moment, I'm not happy with mine. It has a mind of its own (Random Shut Downs for no reason at all >.>) I can't wait to get a laptop. Anyone have any suggestions on a good laptop for a good price?

I had people offer to buy me a new laptop and I refused them because my laptop will probably be good enough for the next few years(yay for 4 year foolproof warranty!), considering I don't really game anymore.

Although some accessories will be nice (like a graphic tablet or something)

Vista Home Premium OEM 32BIT
RAM: 2GB [duel channel]
CPU: Intel Quad Core - 2.4GHZ

The Internet we have is not that bad either; we run on 4MG.

I guess this deserves a separate post. I am surprised that the majority in voting is currently 16-14 dissatisfied with their computers. Computers being as good as they are is AMAZING. I was amazed by the computer I got in 1999, and were I still 'limited' to that, I would still be happy. I, of course, am even more amazed and happier with my quad core, but I would never be unhappy with almost any computer, and I would go so far as to say that it is spoiled to be unhappy with computers, because that feeling comes from a lack of appreciation or our material culture or whatever. Only rich people could afford cars in the early 1900s, and they were shoddy compared to what we have now, yet in an age where nearly everyone can own a solid computer for an extremely cheap price, people are unhappy, and it baffles me.

I've got a good desktop but had a laptop before and miss the extra mobility. So I'm buying a new one next week. Still, I voted no on the poll.

This is quite an interesting observation you've made. And maybe I should have rephrased my statement differently. I should have said that I am unhappy with the performance of my computer, not the computer itself. I've learned a long time ago, not to take the little things for granted. And I think the people who stated that they were unhappy with their computers, were actually saying that they were unhappy with the performance of their computers and not the other way around.

My post addressed performance. Computers are amazing and people expect too much out of things and quickly get over their enjoyment of something new. E-mail revolutionized how people could communicate, and yet after a while of it, they get upset with Outlook Express being difficult to set up or whatever. People get mad about computers getting blue screens of death when Microsoft and forums online provide good solutions.

Now, the one thing I did NOT address in terms of performance is needs of a computer to do actual work. Demands of industries and projects for school where you actually have an requirement is a different story, but I think most of these people love computers enough that they are still loving their job and any high-technology computers they get to use. Doing leisurely things, whether they are things those same people do for jobs or school, is a little different, but still I can understand the frustration there. Any casual user has no right to get upset over performance when it is not NECESSARY to his or her life in any way.

I am not saying I am above this, and I get upset sometimes, but when it happens, I think back 'hey, I have an amazing thing here, I need to calm down and work on figuring out if I screwed something up and a solution regardless of it is the machine or me'

Now, people have rights to get upset over faulty materials too, and there is error in all industry, so there will be machines with errors, but most people get upset over 'not enough power' or 'not enough ram' et cetera which is ridiculous.

Yes, you've made another good point and I completely agree with you. I've had my computer now for about 6 months I think and the only real problem that I have with it is the random shut downs from time to time. I admit that I use to get upset about it shutting down because I would be in the process of doing something really important (rather it be something for school or for work) and it would shut down and cause me to repeat everything I've done to that point. But that was until I figured out what causing the problem. Like you said, calm down and figure out if it was me my fault or the machine's fault.

And usually the random shut downs had to deal with the computer having to many programs open at the same time. So the basic solution would be "Not to open so many applications." After I figured that out, the computer has been working fine, but I still get some random shut downs here and there, and it's usually when I'm not doing anything of importance, so there's really no reason to get upset.

So even though, I'm a little disappointed in the performance of my computer because the random shut downs do get a little repetitive and tiring, I'm not going to out and buy a new computer for that small reason. And I do finally decide to buy my laptop, it won't be because I want one or want to replace this computer, it will be because I need one. :D

I bought mine about two months ago for about $1000 (Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware included):

Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit)
AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile (2.2 GHz)
3 GB DDR2 SDRAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400
250 GB hard drive (5400 RPM)
Built-in 1.3 Megapixel Webcam and microphone

For perspective, my old $500 notebook had a 1.67 GHz Intel Celeron M and 512 MB RAM. (and a 80 GB hard drive) Yeah, I absolutely LOVE my PC.

(By the way, the Internet is loading more smoothly for me after installing Service Pack 1 earlier today. It's about damn time Microsoft put that out.)

It's not ridiculous at all. It's in our nature to want better than what we have. If we have Option 1 and Option 2 with Option 2 being superior to Option 1, which should we want? Most are unhappy with their computer's performance because it cannot do something they would like to do. Or does it worse than another could.

I use a laptop for everything because I find switching from desktop (home) to laptop (school) to be troublesome. So I got a mid-high range laptop that could do all my needs. However, this was before I played PC games. After buying the Orange Box, I do wish my laptop could run it at higher settings with a better framerate. I envy my friend with his MacBook Pro running it at max settings + 60 fps constant.

However, I am happy that it's enough to get my work done without too much issues like my desktop. I can run more than one Adobe product without it crashing like my old computer and that's essential to my schoolwork.

Wanting option 2 over option 1 is not the situation I expressed - being unhappy with option 1 because option 2 exists is. The amount our society feels is a birthright is egregious.
