I told myself I wasn’t going to get this game. I told myself I wouldn’t cave. Especially after that whole AI art drama. I don’t want to play any of the mobile games anymore. And I still haven’t downloaded this, and I quit both GO and Masters. But something about this new set that came out seems extremely familiar. Can’t quite put my finger on it, though… it’s not like this set features an oddly specific combination of Legendaries that were all on the cover of a game together or something, right?
Between this and the last set, I think this game is trying to tell me something… eh, probably thinking too much into this. While I would call myself a big Johto fan, I don’t know if I’d call myself enough to want to start playing an entire game just because of a couple TCG sets of it. I’ll let you guys decide. Would you “recommend” this to someone, for lack of better word? I mean, it’s just another F2P mobile game, it’s not a big deal or anything.

I enjoy the game more than I expected to and just play with the free stuff but I don't think I'd recommend unless something seemed fun to you. Especially at this juncture since you'd be needing to pull on multiple sets (such is the way of gacha).
Like I guess if you jsut raelly want to see the new cards in-game and move the cards around and maybe play a few matches? That's probably fine. Then just uninstall when the luster wears off. The one upshot of these kind of games is, ideally, you can just put them back down.
Also for clarity it wasn't an AI art issue. The issue was they gave the artist fan art (considering the fan art itself was based on official merch, I can see the line of how this happened, even if they really shouldn't have had it happen to begin with) as part of their materials and told them to reference the materials very closely due to how immersive arts work.
I remember hearing online somewhere it was another AI theft situation, but this matches more with what I was pretty sure actually happened. Stupid fake news outlets. In any case, thanks for getting back to my post. It looks decent, I suppose, certainly welcome as I don’t collect the physical cards anymore (thanks, local scalpers) and most of my friends don’t play the TCG anymore anyways. I tend to give mobile games a lot of crap regardless of the franchise, with only a select few ever holding my interest over time. I may opt to give this a shot, but I probably wouldn’t be that interested in the PVP side of it- said friends I mentioned earlier got me into Magic: the Gathering in college and I strongly prefer their PVP over Pokémon’s.

The game is amazing, it fixes so many of the issues with OG TCG. Also, you can legit make a lot of good decks as a f2p player.
