Pokémon Presents - Pokémon Day 2025 - Pokemon ZA Info & Pokemon Champions Announced

Hm... There's a limit to Malamar's powers. Malamar can't convince you they're on the same level as Arceus and god. (No, I'm not brainwashed of Bidoof. I'm just scared of the Perfect Bidoof's wrath after watching Pokemon Rusty.)
What do you know about My Friend Malamar's true power? Their capabilities are endless.

You best make a Topsy-Turvy right now and repent for your heretical speech.

Bug-type Sylveon, who remember
There was a huge contingent who thought it was Flying too.
I remember at least a few who thought it was just gonna be Normal type.

Normal is new to me, but I remember Bug and Flying.

While I never bought Bug, I could see where people were coming from as Ironmage pointed out. I imagine it was a popular opinion of the "Eeveelution for Every Type" group as a Bug-type Eevee is kind of hard to imagine without transmuting it into an insectoid creature. Like, sure, Vaporeon has fish-like traits so you can use it as an argument for transmuting to a different Class, but then again we also have plenty of marine mammals with fins (not to mention connections to mermaids).

I was in the Flying camp if it wasn't a new Type. One reason was the name, Sylveon, Sylphs being air elementals. Second was they had sketches on Pokemon Sunday (or whatever it was at the time) where the hosts tried to figure out what Type it was. One sketch was it at a dojo where the woman dressed as Sylveon failed at boxing (thus concluded not to be a Fighting-type). Another and probably the most notable was the "Poison" test where the woman smelled a "stinky" shoe. She acted like she was having a bad reaction to it, thus not only concluded wasn't a Poison-type but maybe weak to Poison. Guess that was meant to be the major hint it was a new Type (since at that time only Grass was weak to Poison), however some who didn't think it was a new Type took it to just meaning it wasn't resistant to Poison cause any neutral affected Pokemon would also probably gag at smelling stinky shoes. Good times, good times.

Normal never crossed my mind as a Normal Eeveelution feels like will never happen as Eevee "fills" that spot, will be one of the very last ones, or if it happens earlier would be paired with another Eeveelution with a Type & aesethetic which correlates with Normal.

Is Bulbapedia just shitposting loudly now?

Not just Bulbapedia.

I haven't watched the Malamar vid, so I feel like I'm purposefully missing an inside joke even though I'm completely sure of what the joke is and why it's funny. It's kind of like I'm playing dumb about it.

Like, even not watching the video I feel the context is understandable.

There's apparently a malamar event at the usual reveal time (7am in my timezone of MST) on wednesday the 10th, so probably no mega malamar reveal until then

but there's also supposedly a nintendo direct soon after then (rumored to be friday the 12th) so there might be other megas in that video? (hopefully the kalos starters)

Last I checked, general Directs never happen on Fridays. Plus big Pokémon reveals tend to come from other sources.

There is more than likely a Direct this month, but it won't be on that date nor will it have any LZA news.

I remember being in the Dragon-type Sylveon camp(still shocked they haven't given us that yet). Ghost was a long shot(apparently fangs were visible in the first image?), and again, I'm still waiting for that one.

Obviously the evo method for Dragon would be beating an oppt 10 levels higher than Eevee without any other mon involved in the battle.

And Ghost would be the same, except Eevee has to lose.

Since no one’s mentioned this yet but has mentioned the possibility of a Nintendo Direct, it is worth noting that we still have no idea what Nintendo’s doing (if anything) for the 40th anniversary of the Super Mario games so I would be willing to bet any Direct would be focused around that, though I also think such a Direct would have been announced by now and be one of those “we’ll announce it a week in advance” kind of Directs.

I could actually see a reveal for Malamar happen as early as tomorrow but this is entirely off the premise of 9 and 6 being inverted numbers don’t say it and Malamar’s evolution method reminded me of that. Someone mentioned the 10th as a possible date but five days feels like an oddly long time for The Pokémon Company to milk this Malamar trend. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see- they might not even have a trailer for this one.

The 10th is being mentioned because there will be, quote, "a special video celebrating Malamar" put out then.

They sent little malamar merch packages to content creators so I assume the reason they did it this way, with the amount of time, was just to let the joke percolate a little and hey maybe you get folks like bulbapedia that lean into it. Either people bite and yo uget free engagement or they don't and oh well, no big loss.

the most reliable nintendo leaker claims there will be a general direct on or around the 11th or 12th, and other leakers have said the 12th. I assume Nintendo wouldn't want to have a direct on 9/11, lol.

don't think there's really any reason to automatically assume there won't be pokemon news in a direct considering that Legends ZA has been in directs in the past already, and this direct would be a month before the game is out.

Well Friday is 99% wrong because general Directs do not happen on Fridays. I checked: the last general Direct to air on a Friday was over a decade ago. Unless leakers mean Friday in Japan due to time zone differences. Otherwise, it's Wednesday because that's the most common day of the week to air Directs.

And 9/11 hasn't entirely stopped Nintendo before, either. They've made announcements on that day and the first Super Mario Maker released on 9/11/15 in the US (and Europe). But this is a moot point if they just air the Direct on Wednesday.

I'd rather be wrong here and end up pleasantly surprised. Keep my expectations tempered.

People were so thirsty for it that people kept getting mad when the variety skit show kept doing variety skits to have fun with not knowing the typing, and then those weren't "hints" towards anything.

Ah those sure. Were....times. The times of all times.
Huh? I specifically remember the variety show confirming a new type was on the way because two of the skits were "resists fighting" and "weak to poison", ruling out all existing types.

Lest we forget about a certain Smash Bros. amiibo being restocked possibly for the first time in years… at 9/11 or the day after?
With the fact that King K. Rool launched a destructive invasion on New Donk City by flooding it with rotten, possibly fermanted banana mush at that. Even if it was unintentional, it’s either shocking or darkly humorous depending on your sense of humor.

Playing SV this weekend, looking at the ZA footage, and reminding myself of PLA and Sw/Sh’s wild areas…

…I am convinced that gens 8 and 9 have been a combined experimental series of games building towards Gen 10 and a whole new kind of Pokemon game.

Paldea in SV, I realised today, is big but it is in reality an island in concept. It’s standalone. It is a culmination of PLA and Sw/Sh developments. Kitakami and the Blueberry Academy are standalone elements and themselves are worlds within worlds.

Lumiose City is standalone, but a city within a region. It flips the open worlds into a closed world. That’s PLZA’s big change up.

It is possible that the Island concepts of Gen 10 that are rumoured may be a building on Paldea in terms of the size and scope of an individual island, and maybe PLZA’s development is that cities on these islands from the outside may seem small scale - but then you enter them, and we get…Lumiose styled cities that are expansive.

In other words, SV and Paldea provided the big physical world development that PLA prototyped and PLZA is the prototype for the true new approach to cities.

Combine the two separate approaches together…and maybe we get Gen 10.

the official? japanese "pokemon information bureau" twitter account posted a 17 second video of someone walking in the darkness on what sounds like snow with cold winds?

the english pokemon twitter accounts haven't posted it so I have no idea if it's a promo for a new mega or what, but it's very odd

Poketimes is official yeah.

And this doesn't sound like walking on snow, you can hear clacks of shoes on hard floor. The "crackling" is a combination of lack of noise cancellation and the winds. Sounds like they were walking around and then broke into a run. Probably continuing the tease for Malamar.

I wasn't sure because I scrolled down after posting that they just had a bunch of random drawn gifs of pokemon.

I have to wonder if this whole week+ of teasing a singular mega is going to be something more than that. Malamar is a rather villainous pokemon and hypnotizes people into doing what it wants. It would be cool if they also revealed a heroic Mega to fight this Mega Malamar.

Assuming Mega Malamar keeps its Dark/Psychic typing, it’d be the perfect time to debut a Bug mega - if ever there were a time for a Mega Ledian, it’d be now. Still, I expect them to keep it to just Malamar; we’d probably have seen teases for another Mega if they were going to debut two.

I suspect Mega Malamar will br about 80% the same but with like bigger tentacles and probably some more hypnotic coloring when it's in motion.

Strikes me more as "Design++" mega.
