No 3rd installation has not been fully compatible yet, though none have had any new forms of pokemon, and who knows there may be new non-key items though I doubt it. Could be a one-way compatibility thing, though hasn't battling been confirmed (between a dialga from diamond and giratina)?
That was a battle between two Platinum versions; the Dialga was traded from Diamond to Platinum. It actually goes to support the theory that Origin Forme can only be used against other Platinum players.
I was just looking at the Sinnoh legendaries that aren't in the Sinnoh Dex, and I realized if you drop them all, other then Giratina, and then add all the new evolutions and their families, the number of Pokémon in the Sinnoh Dex would be an even 202, supposedly a holy number when it comes to Regional Pokédexes. The only issue with this is that Manaphy would still be included while Phione wouldn't, however, since it is an event Pokémon, it really wouldn't matter.
Red came out in what, '95? Gold/Silver didn't come until like 1998. Thats a massive time lapse.
Here's an idea as to the whole battle compatability thing...
Pearl vs. Platinum
Giratina (origin form) is used on a platinum game against a pearl game.
The icon would change.
New moves can already be programmed onto a Giratina (look at Pokesav).
The stats - consider it like Pokesav sending all numbers to 999 - unless you put it in a box, the numbers will stay 999. And will not change from 999.
Same thing with shaymin - from the PEarl game, the shaymin graphics could just appear as normal form shaymin, not sky form graphics, with weird stats and a fe moves. As long as the mechanics stay the same (damage calc), I don't see a problem with wifi.
As for the local, there might be another entrance way - one with the ooooooold DP entrance room for the wifi, and one for the new solely Platinum - Platinum room.

Correct. It's even mentioned in-game (especially by the Rockets. Man I miss the Rockets. All these newfangled Teams SUCK..).
I'm going to keep my eye on this in the coming days to see if anything floats by, and especially about this Version crap.
I was going to buy Platinum anyway, but forcing you to is just plain wrong.
Looks like I'll have to trade all my 30+ fighters to Platinum...
But there's a bright side to this. You can use Platinum as a clean slate to use at those events that hack check your game, in case your old Diamond or Pearl (or both) got contaminated somehow. I know mine has. -_-
So once I get Platinum I'm trading over my legit goodies and NOT trading with ANYONE on that game but I'll still trade back and forth with my Diamond game.
The way the tourney rules are set, it seems platinum is the only way to go regardless. I do hope for tutor moves however. More replay value outside the wifi +catching + poke event side quests makes me happy with the battle frontier.

I remember when I first played Red/Blue and encountered Giovanni I thought, "Shit man, this is the mafia, they could kill me!" All these other "teams" are wierdo, haley bop, jonestown cults.

In a pokemon episode they always have little shorts at the end. In the recent episode they revealed froslass is #208 in platinum dex.
Wasn't Tyranitar after the legendary dogs in GSC Dex?
Personally, I don't want to see new Pokémon in the Sinnoh Dex. I want the new evolutions lik Gallade and Leafeon, but don't want to see Game Freak randomly throw Pokémon like Pinsir and Walrein in.
Edit: Arael, the only reason Tyranitar was after the dogs in GSC is because it's one of those base 600 stat total Pokémon, like Dragonite after the birds in Kanto, and Metagross and Salamence after the Regis in Hoenn. So, if any non-legendary Pokémon deserves to be placed that late in the Dex, after the pixies, is Garchomp.

But what happened with Dialga, Palkia and the legendary trio? Would they be before Froslass and the other evolutions?

Dialga and Palkia are in the game. Maybe they can be obtained after you receive the National Dex.
I hope the Torn World would be somewhat of a "dungeon" and Giratina Origin Form is the "boss." That would be awesome. The storyline I propose is that Dialga and Palkia are fighting and cause a rip in our dimension. This rip leads to the Torn World where Giratine lives. Giratina Orgin Form comes to our dimension to settle the battle (somewhat of a Rayquaza from R/S/E). Maybe I have this all wrong.... :-(
Are we going to be able to catch both Dialga AND Palkia in Platinum? If would make sense, seeing as we could catch Kyogre AND Groudon in Emerald. I think the methods of catching them will have to do with the Torn World, because that probably has something to do with you(the character) not catching Palkia and Dialga before the catastrophe at Mt. Coronet. Maybe they tore open this new world? I think something along those lines should be expected.
