Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 3 (Competitive Discussion)

Aldaron, what do you mean? Do you think that this one could teach other moves after some "event" in the game?

Well that's exactly what happened with the XD move tutor (go through the game = more moves available / beat the Orre Colosseum = all moves available). Who knows?

What move do you guys think goes best with Scizor's Bullet Punch (which, btw is awesome heh heh)? X-Scissor gives kind of crappy coverage, so maybe Brick Break? Or maybe forego roost for a 3rd attack.

every single quality offensive team posted in the rmt forum (just click the rating tab to see all the 4-5 star ones) has garchomp without exception.

Just because they have garchomp doesn't mean they can't function without one . . . besides, a lot of sweepers have gotten even stronger, and there's Shaymin to think of now too (assuming it can stay in OU).

@Vacuum Wave Discussion-- Infernape also gets vacuum wave (only one I've tested that had it).

Because I'm feeling nice I'm going to double check the whole list in the file for all of those moves at the beginning of the thread. Sorry if stuff is learned by Lv. up 'n such, but I keep on finding stuff in the file...

...

Enjoy!

I did this, and removed the Pokemon that already knew the move (advance tutor, level-up, etc.) - that's the thing RB Golbat quoted. For Pokemon that already knew the move, you can't necessarily be sure that they got the move by tutor in Platinum (sounds stupid, but sometimes it can be counterintuitive, like Golduck only being able to learn Psychic by breeding and not by TM in Adv).

well outside checking ourselves, someone hacks into the game to figure it out or nintendo tells us. Can't think of any other way.

@people drooling over bullet punch scizor-- enough drooling. Help me figure out what to put on mine. lol Right now I have an Adamant one ev'd for the LO set with Swords Dance/Roost/Bullet Punch/Brick Break, seem good?

x-scissor hits stuff like uxie, cresselia, tangrowth, and celebi. It's also its strongest move against hippowdon, spiritomb, and swampert. I'd hardly call it crappy coverage.

Swords Dance/X-Scissor/Bullet Punch/Brick Break, with Leftovers. I've never found a need for Roost on a Scizor.

I wouldn't be talking about X-Scizor if it wasn't well known to be a good move. >.> I guess the only real consolation is that many steel types in OU are also psychic type. Still getting walled by heatran doesn't sound fun.

Does Rock Smash have any merit with Technician? That boosts it up to just 15 BP less than Brick Break and it drops Defense 50% of the time. I assume not, but it was just a thought while browsing through Scizor's options.

Heatran's probably going to outspeed you anyway, which means you're probably going to want to run even if you have Brick Break. Scizor's options outside of Bullet Punch are going to be running off his not so stellar 65 speed after all, so you're probably going to still have to run from anything with a fire attack if you can't kill it with Bullet Punch.

Yes I believe it does. @ Tracker

Wow, think of the possibilities. I am currently using this on Wi-Fi, and the basic concept works really well. Consider:

Infernape @ Life Orb
Timid - Blaze
252 SpA / 252 Spe / 6 Hp
- Encore
- Nasty Plot / Calm Mind
- Vacuum Wave
- Flamethrower

Why worry about lowering their defense, when you can boost your attack?

I don't really see the need for Brick Break when he can just be fine with 2 attacks - Bullet Punch and X-Scissor. BB will still do shitty damage to stuff like Skarmory and Forretress.. and X-Scissor is still better against pokemon like Metagross and Jirachi. Might as well give him Quick Attack for fire types that resist his Bullet Punch, or just Baton Pass for scouting... (or Roost)

I could definitely see Vacuum Wave Infernape being a success, especially with all these Scarf Heatran running around.

Bullet Punch and Quick Attack on the same set might actually be useful.

Also does anyone know if a cloning code for Platinum has been developed yet?
