It's offical, the new formes DON'T work on wifi or union room.

Are you sure this was over wifi?

Come to think of it, could it be a glitch where Japanese Platinum can't use the formes against American D/P games? Doesn't make much sense but it's worth checking out I think.
I don't think it would be exactly as you described since there is no data of the new formes in D/P. However, it could be a glitch where Skymin isn't compatible on Wi-Fi for two Japanese Platinum game cards playing each other.

The maintenance might be something to do with the new formes. Come to think of it, didn't they patch a R/S berry glitch via the Jirachi disc on the GCN? If it is a glitch, would they be able to apply a patch to our games over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection? I heard that the items needed to access the new Rotom formes will be obtainable over Wi-Fi.

All of this is right and it was just what I was thinking. Just hopefully, they can fix it and we can actually use these forms.

There is no way we can say that anything is "right" at the moment (except for stuff that other people have tested) so everything is up in the air right now.

I really do hope it is just a glitch, because why the heck would GF make pokemon you cant even use in wifi, which was like their best new feature of D/P.

What I meant by "right" is that the R/S Berry Glitch was fixed with a patch...meaning its still possible.

Ahh I see now lol my bad.

In that case, that is definately a possiblity that I am hoping will happen, although the possibliity of it happening is quite low....Only time will tell.

As soon as SVC and hrc969 found out that the alternate forms actually exist in Diamond and Pearl's .pkm file, it became clear that the forms could in theory be used against Diamond and Pearl players. Still, I am slightly surprised by the report about the Battle Recorder because of the following statement:

PokéBeach said:
  • I setup a trade between Platinum and Pearl. I wanted to trade my Giratina Origin Forme with its Platinum Orb to Pearl. When entering the trading room, Giratina Origin Forme reverts back to Giratina and its Platinum Orb goes back into the backpack. When you leave the room, you have to put the Orb back on yourself to transform it into its Origin Forme.

  • The same thing happens with a local battle. Giratina reverts to its regular form and the Platinum Orb goes into your backpack. It does not seem like any of the new forms can be traded or battled with while in their forms. They are exclusive to Platinum for this generation it seems.

As far as I know, PokéBeach's webmaster owns a legitimate copy of the game. It could very well be that the person whose data was watched on the Battle Recorder was doing similar experiments to those done by SVC, hrc969 and Arael; after all, the Battle Recorder doesn't reject data submitted by hackers.

But either way, the reason for incompatibility likely has to do more with the distinction between trading and battling than it does with the distinction between Diamond/Pearl and Platinum. The Club Colosseum only offers battling; the Union Room and Wi-Fi Club offer both trading and battling. That makes matters more complicated: Were it possible to enter the Union Room/Wi-Fi Club with the forms unchanged, the need to revert them would be dependent upon the player's actions in the room.

The reason that trading is off-limits is not solely because of compatibility issues with Diamond and Pearl: Game Freak clearly wanted to restrict the number of Origin Forme and appliance-based Rotom to one of each per a game. Why is it so vital? I couldn't answer that as I fail to see what makes those Pokémon more special than Deoxys and Shaymin (the latter of which has been impacted by this, though). But this is also consistent with the odd move of making Rotom's alternate forms event-exclusive and rendering them ineligible in official tournaments. It is all unnecessary hype, but sadly, it might just have worked out in the relevant companies' favor.

Finally, it could be argued that Game Freak should have programmed the forms to revert within the trading room right before being traded. The trading process would have appeared to be like that of Deoxys in the GBA games, but in actuality, it would have been different in that Deoxys did not have to revert since its data was interpreted differently between the games, and no game actually had data for more than one form. Had this been done, there would have been no need to distinguish Union Room and Wi-Fi Club from Club Colosseum.

Unfortunately, the lack of discussion on the subject outside this forum seems to indicate that there won't be enough fan backlash to change Game Freak's mind.

Guys I'd like to say that you cant see the alternate forms in diamond and pearl because there is no sprite for it. its like when you used a deoxys form from emerald and your opponent had fire red or something. same ability and stats but it fits the look of the game.

I seriously doubt GameFreak put any sort of "ROM-detection" code into their games (if that's even possible), and if they did, why would they choose its mechanism of action to be preventing you from using alternate forms on Wifi? Wouldn't it make more sense for it to just not allow you to play and give you some sort of BSOD calling you a dirty h4x0r? Or corrupt your save file after you just worked so hard to beat the E4?

Unless they decided to update their battle system in between the time the game was leaked and the time the retail versions started shipping to allow Skymin, I don't see it making a difference. A ROM is just an exact copy of the cartridge.

Hey Syberia, can D/P and Platinum battle on that Colosseum thing (I mean, talking to the woman on the right on the second floor of the Pokémon Center)? If so, could you try to use Origin Giratina and Skymin on Platinum against D/P?

I'll test it with Skymin right now, I don't have an Oritina. I'm 99% sure that whatever the result for Skymin ends up being is also the result for Oritina, though.

Platinum as the host: Skymin stays Skymin. Shows Skymin sprite on Platinum, Hedgehog sprite on Diamond. Takes not-very-effective damage from a Fighting attack. Wow, that was unexpected. I thought it'd fail for sure.

Diamond as the host: Skymin stays Skymin, again.

So that proves that there are no compatibility issues between D/P and Platinum's alternate forms. They appear to the D/P player as their regular sprites, but stats and typing are that of their new forms.

Looks like GameFreak just hates wi-fi players for whatever reason. What the fuck, GayFreak?

I updated my post. Skymin works even if D/P is the host. It's just not allowed on wifi for whatever reason. This happens in local battles only.

Seriously, what the fuck?

EDIT: For Shoddy simulation purposes, please do not ask me to check what Hypnosis' accuracy in these types of battles is. I don't want to sit through 100+ rounds of falling asleep, waiting to wake up, restoring my PP, resetting, continuing, etc...

So, this means I (unfortunately) was right the whole time -__- Game Freak either hates us or has shitted on something.

It would be good if any of the japanese-speaking members could find some Japanese blog/forum having the same problem then us. Unless they're not having the problem (as Chou didn't find any site yet), but it's very unlikely. I think.

I wasn't going to ask anyone, that would be a good way to get people mad at me. I just asked for volunteers.

Although, it will probably work like Choice Band+ Pursuit between Japanese and American Diamond/Pearl (In the Japanese game, If you use Pursuit on the first turn as they switch out, you can choose a new move for your next attack, which is when choice band will activate)

Basically, the newer game overrides the older game.

I sure hope so, because I don't want different sets of rules for Skymin and non-Skymin battles. That would just be extremely annoying.

If it were up to me, I would have the "default" rules for Ladder and Tournaments and such include 60% Hypnosis, with an extra check box for people without alternate forms on their teams to "use D/P Hypnosis" in non-Ladder/Tournament matches. The option would obviously be blanked out if you have Skymin or Oritina on your team.

Or just pretend D/P Hypnosis doesn't exist altogether, as there's no special option for two players to "use Japanese Pursuit glitch" if they so desire on Shoddy.

Why would we want to change the Hypnosis if GF changed it in the first place? If they added it in to the game, so be it, don't go changing the rules because you like the 70% better...

Why would they even change it like that anyways? I mean, it was always 60%, then they changed it to 70%, now back to 60% in the SAME generation?

lol, is it just me or is GF not making sense this time around?

GF were never known to be consistent anyways.

I'm still betting they're blocked on American Wi-Fi? It's pretty gay if you can't use them against D/P players....

It should still be confirmed; after all, the Platinum Orb is not programmed into Diamond and Pearl's data, though it does have a placeholder.

But Oritina does not actually need the platinum orb. Through normal gameplay it does. But you can force giratina to become oritina, without the item.

I bet Sky Forme isn´t allowed on Wifi because us Americans over here don´t know about it yet, at least not officially. Remember that it was revealed during the months before Pokemon Movie 11, so suddenly having a Grass/Flying Shaymin over Wifi wouldn´t make any sense to anyone outside of Japan. Most likely when American Platinum comes out, it will be Wifi usable, overriding the Japanese coding. That´s what happened with Japanese Pursuit: new overrides old.
