Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 3 (Competitive Discussion)

About DDOutrageMence, is true... with Stealth Rock and 236 SpAtk Ice Beam is KO, but if we take a Pokémon as Vaporeon with max HP and max Def the damage of Outrage after a Dragon Dance is... 70% - 83%
Are you crazy? You banned Garchomp for the same motivation, this means that Outrage to Salamence is Cheap!

I've seen two Outrage Mences now, and both have done nothing except become setup bait for my Scizor. Without Swords Dance like Garchomp had, I really can't see it posing the same level of a threat.

Paralysis and SR can both hit Salamence, as it is Flying-type and weak to Rock attacks.
Granted, it is extremely powerful, and has Intimidate, but it will struggle to switch in on anything that isn't EQ.

Even if mence had swords dance, with SR weak, lack of the same defenses and generally good typing, I can't see it having the same sheer brute force Garchomp had. Not to mention it being stuck in the same speed tier as stuff like Zapdos.

I had no worries that Salamence would get bumped up to Ubers after hearing he got Outrage, if only because of the fact he doesn't have 102 speed. Being hit by Thunder Wave and Stealth Rock clinches it.

Salamence brings something new to the table really. It gets Stealth rock weak and no sandstorm immune for that +1 Atk, compared to Scarfchomp.

hmmm, would a +2 Atk Brick Break OHKO a Blissey 252 Def/0HP Calm?

On the other hand, Dragonite is FINISHED. He really has no more redeeming features. Poor Dragonite.

Got bored and threw this together..thoughts?

Adamant - Magic Guard
Toxic Orb
252/252/6/xx/xx/xx
-Trick
-Facade
-Fire Punch
-Zen Headbut/Brick Break/Icy Wind

EV spread needs work, Im not sure what it should bother outrunning. (assuming it doesnt run Icy Wind)

Trick to dump the item off on an unlucky wall after Clefable gets Poisoned, hopefully snagging Leftovers in the process, Facade for STAB + Status boost. Fire Punch to deal with any steels (though Heatran lols at you still), Zen Headbutt mainly for Gengar although Fire Punch might be enough to deal with Gar, while something like Brick Break for Heatran. Icy wind, finally could work for when they switch out..

that is soooo evil, I got to try this in UU.

I don't really fear Salamence that much. Yes it's powerful but I already have ways of dealing with it much like the rest of the dragons.
And correct me if I'm wrong, but once you use Outrage, you're locked into it, yes? No switching? That could prove to be a real pain in the ass..

I think so. The only way to have that option while being forced to do the same move at the same time is if you were Encore'd.

Except LO Flamethrower easily OHKOs, and his higher special attack means Bronzong/Skarmory can't switch in. Same thing goes for Hippowdon. Look, this thing is definitely not Uber, but it sure the hell is way more unpredictable and more powerful on the first turn than Garchomp ever was. With 110 special attack and Draco Meteor, and now Outrage to go with his base 135 attack, there is really nothing that can switch in safely. The best way to beat Mence is prediction, and the way to beat Garchomp was luck...(Sand Veil mainly). The fact that Mence can be paralyzed and doesn't have STAB EQ to work with means it isn't as effective as a sweeper, but this puts holes into teams that can't just be Wishpassed away, unlike Choice Scarf or Banded Garchomp. That special attack makes all the difference.

Heatran just has to be careful it doesn't switch in on a Superpower, otherwise it easily outspeeds and OHKOs.

Scizor can always Agility on the switch
Im guessing some people will go Agility Super Power Pursuit/X scissor Roost or filler with expert belt or life orb

Superpower doesn't really fit stat-boosting sets. After the trouble of taking a turn to raise your attack, ending up losing your sweep because of lowering attack power is junk. Moreover you can't even baton pass out well because passing out the -ATK/-DEF is lame. Even if you pass to a special sweeper taking the loss of DEF on the switch is not appealing.

Meh, well that's kinda disappointing. I was hoping for something a little more worthwhile. I love that furry elephant. But anyway, I really like how Scizor got bullet punch. Stab priority move ftw.

I think Super Power is a pretty good addition to Mamo. Bar them inventing an entirely new ice move, I can't see any moves that exist in the game that could help it (and wouldn't seem absolutely ridiculous, ie. Flare Drive/Ice Punch).
