The World Is Going To End!!!!!!

Do you believe in the Christian-made conspiracy of the appearance of the Devil wreaking havoc amongst mankind? My mates believe in it, only to find out they're Christians themselves.

No. Religion is usually the easiest explanation for things like this(when/how the the world started/will end, the meaning of life[I don't even care to know]), but that doesn't have to make it "right".

Don't want to know the meaning of life? o_0

When the mess of a relationship I find myself in started going tits up - two days into it - we were on a plane and I found myself hoping the plane would just crash and we'd all die and it'd end there, absolving me of responsibility.

Nine months later, and I hope it's the world that ends, not the plane ride. And soon.

I'm a Christian, and I've never heard of this "Christian-made conspiracy".

This thread is a slippery slope from the start, I don't really see it going anywhere worthwhile.

Christian-related apocalypse hype usually happens around the millenial years. It happened in 1000, and we all know what happened in 2000.

Most of the end-of-the-world talk stems around several ancient calendars, like the Mayans, ending with 2012. The rational side of me says that it's all just coincidence and astronomers would have found something by now, but the crazy side says that I'll be shitting bricks in about 4 years.

Ok, here's why the world won't end in 2012.

1. Regarding the "Christian-made conspiracy". The bible says that the end of the world will come when it's unexpected. If someone predicts it, does that sound unexpected to you?

2. The second coming is said to happen to confront the next "world-domination seeker" who will pop up out of nowhere, and no one will have any idea where he came from. (it does not sound as if it will be the devil himself, but more of a person working for him) I'm a very religious person, so that's why I thought I should put an end to this thread reasoning, as it sounds you aren't properly informed. I do believe it will happen, but when, no one knows if or when it will be in my lifetime.

There are many reasons that the world could end or have very severe problems nearly driving humans extinct. I do not think anyone who ever studies the Bible seriously and engages it believes in a demon rampage, Christian or atheist.

the world is not going to end in 2012; they turned of the LHC.

and honestly, the end of the world scenario from Revelation is not that far fetched if you study it, and then look at the world around you.

granted, people always think their generation is the last one because of all the horrible things happening.

buuuuuut the world keeps turning and shit keeps happening.

it won't continue forever though.

Conspiracy is really the wrong word here. Conspiracy suggests that the Christians are the ones that will be creating the situation, and if you read into any if it, not the case. A better word would be speculation or theory or story even. As a Christian, yes I believe it will happen, as of when, well Im not going to know when so ill just live as if it could be tomorrow. As it is I never will know when the world will end for me, I could die tomorrow, i dont know and well I have lived me life and I am pleased with it.

I think that if you believe in something, you might even distort your perception in order to believe.

Maybe "The Devil" is our own ignorance, hate, and fear? Not some strange monster? And that could even be quite reasonable, since difficulties between human beings include some sort of ignorance or irrational hate, most of the time.

Elaborate more on this conspiracy. I am a Christian as well and I never heard of a "christian-made conspiracy," so this post really doesn't make any sense to me.

Pretty sure he means the Rapture. It is Christian made (sort of), but that's the Antichrist, not the Devil.

Astronomers know how old our star is and approx. when it will explode/impode/whatever.

That being said, I don't think that will be the end because it's predicted.
2012 will not be the apocolypse, because it is also predicted. And besides, the Mayans never left a rason for why their calendar ended on 2012. Perhaps that was all the further in to the future they were able to calculate.

that's how I see it.

I had a strange dream once that everyone who believed that the world would end in 2012 die and everyone who didn't live... I personally do not believe in any of this. I just thought it was an interesting dream though, because I always thought everyone who believed in heaven and hell would go to heaven or hell because they believed but everyone else would just... rot. Lol. But that's just me.

This is kind of funny because I recently saw a show on discovery a few days ago with some ways the world would end.

#1- Supervolcano

The supervolcano under Yellowstone hasn't erupted since 1.2 Million years ago; If it does soon, it will cover the ozone with ash and cause whats called a "volcanic winter" which will last for no shorter then 30 years.

#2 Nuclear War

I'm pretty sure I don't really need to explain this, but we can end the world ourselves. A nuclear missille exploding is like bringing a 16 mile-long piece of the Sun to Earth. not only that, the radiation can go very far, from Washington D.C to Beijing, crossing the Atlantic.

There's a lot more, if you want to find them just google 2012 predictions.

if humans get killed off completely by a natural disaster (including planetary depletion) i will laugh. we are probably to smart to get snuffed out by anything besides extremely improbable events i.e. insanely climate changing disaster, supervirus, supermassive nuclear/chemical fallout etc.. as far as im concerned it's no use predicting the end of the human race before we decide how many more resources we can get from the entire universe (and therefor continue to exist)

in the meantime, the fate of the rest of the universe as a whole is alot harder to predict. an "end" can imply alot of things, but as far as we can tell the energy in the universe is constant and there's no reason not to believe that a big bang follows a big crunch!

People have been predicting the end of the world for a long time. They've obviously all been wrong. The whole idea that the end of the world will come when nobody predicts it is just some shit that discourages using proof as a reason to believe something will happen.

It happened in 1000, and we all know what happened in 2000.

Ummm...real historical evidence says otherwise. Those fanciful tales of Pope Sylvester or whoever holding a huge Mass awaiting the end of the world is just bullshit. Added to the fact that the calendar we use now was not in widespread use in Europe back then (iirc, not even at all, but there did exist the crude predecessor of it).

As long has we got Nasa and those other crap that keeps world living.

We should be fine.

And honestly I'm christian and i really doubt the devil exist. And so on,

When you die there's no ''afterlife'' You rot in your grave.

When the world ends the world ends. Not much you can do. Just enjoy life has its the greatest gift.

Edit: Also the whole 2012 thing is bullshit. The world can end right now or in a second or in 2 seconds or in 1 minute or 1 hour? Get the point?
