Pokemon: Graphic Novels

I was thinking about reading some of the Graphic Novels created about Pokemon. Thought they might be better than the series and I was curious as to what everyone's experiences have been with them.

Should I read them all or just pick up the "best of" collections that I have seen around online?

Also, I noticed that there are multiple number "1"s making it slightly confusing on where to begin reading. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Imo you absolutely must pick up the very first; "The Electric Tale of Pikachu". I have a copy at home and it's one of the most rewarding Mangas I have ever read. The first gen ones are classic, so I'd start there.
 
Mangafox has scanlations of the very incredible Pokemon Special manga. Only 7 volumes were translated into english, and by the manga equivalent of 4kids.

There used to be a thread about it in internet renaissance, but its link is down. Think what Pokemon would be like if it was way more epic and had occasional decapitations.
 
The "electric tale and pikachu" and its following volumes are not to be missed. The battles range from comical (ash's metapod vs. misty's gyarados), to violent (ash and richie's charizards maiming eachother bloody). The art has the pokemon looking a lot less cartoony and a lot more, well, "realistic" is the best word I can use to describe it. The art really pays a lot of attention to detail.

I read the other manga, but I found the art style to be lacking compared to the peviously mentioned manga. However the story is interesting as it's completely original from the tv show or the games, though the characters are based off of the video games, with the exception of the characters Yellow and Emerald.
 
If you mean Pokemon Adventures, it's amazing and should not be missed. Far better than the Pokemon anime. Do not get the Best of Collection. It'll be very confusing. Try and track down the actual volumes. Much, much better. I was completely hooked on them.
 
Yeah, like Firestorm said, Pokemon Adventures are easily the best ones out there, much much better than the anime. They should be rereleasing them soon as well iirc here, and of course, they're up to DPPt over in Japan.
 
Pokemon Special/Adventures was really good, I lost interest by Gold's journey though because his pokémon are fucking wimpy. Might read everything someday!
 
Even though the Electric Tale of Pikachu was really good as well... I have all 4 issues at home and they are great. They give Ash a lot of personality. ^^
