Shoddy Battle 2 (the future of Shoddy Battle)

Add an Option to Reset your Ladder ranking. All in all it just seems it would decrease the use of alt accounts, as people will not make a new account just to ladder with a different time. But also let people who aren't doing so hot, restart from scratch without having to make a new account. Maybe limit this function so it can only be done like one every 12/24 hours or something to prevent spammage.

How about instead of having an option to reset your rating, after a certain amount of battles (100+), your first battles don't count toward your rating. There would be a sort of queue for battles: once you battle 101 times, your first battle only counts for your deviation in your rating, and whether or not you won or lost is forgotten. Only your previous 100 battles would count toward your rating. After your 102nd battle, your 2nd battle is forgotten, so on and so forth. (100 is an arbitrary number, the real number would probably be much higher.)

Say you lose 50 times to begin your shoddybattle career. Instead of being able to reset your losses, you would have to wait until you to get better to improve your rating. If/When you do get better, then after a certain number of battles, your rating WILL signifigantly improve, because your previous losses will be erased from memory.

I find that finding HP spreads on Legendaries is extremely difficult. Shoddy 2 should have an optimal HP spread generator for legendaries so you don't have to mess with numbers all the time. Like, per say, HP Grass on a Heatran.

I also think that Battle Fronteir things would be neat, like, a separate tier solely for Platinum Battle Fronteir matches, like Battle Hall, and whatever else, where you battle the person who has the next highest rating or something next, so it gets harder as you go. There could also be a brain feature, which would be crazy awesome.

Seriously, the one thing I'd like would be to see the type my Hidden Power is, I have it on 3 pokemon, it gets kinda confusing.

I think that a really nice addition to the team builder would be a chart to show you how your mon's typings and abilities all stacked to produce certain compounded weaknesses and resistances to certain types.
This would really make team builiding, at least for me, alot easier as I hate having more than two guys weak to one type and its annopying having to think about that while making the team when It could just be shown to you alongside it or somthing.
Hopefully I didnt make this too long winded.

Just use that.

Oh wow A-Z! this is awesome! Only thing is...
Now I need to constantly flick windows.
I think it would still be a great addition.
nobody likes flicking.

This is not really important but how about being able to change the color of a Pokemon's name like if you want to change Heatran's name color to red or Vaporeon's to Blue etc

There was a way of doing this on the Official Server last I remember. You'd put a colon after the Pokemon's name/nickname and it'd make it bold. I remember putting that next to my Kingdra's name to make it blue and bold somehow. Example: "Kingdra:". Maybe I'm wrong about the color, but I definitely remember there was a way of bolding names and they were blue/bold and can clearly be seen in the text area when your Pokemon does/did something. I know there was a way of doing such a thing, as I asked how to do it on the main server, and I think AA or someone told me it, and I found it quite useful.

Instead of adding a colon to the name, is there a way of just being able to put something into SB2 to make all the Pokemon names/moves bolded to see them better in any match you have on SB2 (this question is pointed at Colin and Bearzly)? Bolding such things as, the Pokemons name/nickname, and what moves the Pokemon just used would be great and for your eyes to see them more clearly because you may avoid or miss something in the text that happened that you just went all ??? about.

Below would be an example text taken from a match I was watching earlier today when I was on SB. The first things you'll notice is that the names, and the moves are bolded. But below, you'll see that Bronzongs name is only bolded once, because in the 2nd text where it says "Bronzong twisted the dimensions!" isn't really all that important to see compared to what your opponents Pokemon used/did or what your own Pokemon used/did.

Aerodactyl used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around the foe's team!
Bronzong used Trick Room.
Bronzong twisted the dimensions!

It doesn't even need to be colorized, just bolding those things in a match can make the players more aware of whats going on in the match. I know this would help me greatly, among many other players, because I sometimes tend to miss something since the matches on Shoddy go very fast and even though you do have a scroll bar to see what happened, bolding such things would make it so much easier to figure out what happened, and so you don't end up all "??? wtf just happened man? O_o" in the match.

Not exactly sure what you mean here. Maybe that there are too many popup windows floating around? That it being changed somewhat.

About the names etc. in logs, the colon trick is more of an exploit of some poor design in Shoddy Battle 1 :p. In Shoddy Battle 2, you will be able to style all of the messages using CSS, so you can bold them, change their colour etc. however you please.

Sweet, thanks for the update Bearzly. Also, I had an idea that I'd like for you and Colin to think about. How about adding a section checkmark option in the "View" drop down menu, along with the 'View Battle Notices' and 'Join/Part Messages' where you can click it to stop viewing the main chat text on whatever server you're on. This would be a great add-on because:
  • 1) The chat text on the server can be very annoying, and sometimes the conversations are just pointless.
  • 2) If you choose to click the option, say it was something like 'View Chat Text', then by clicking that it only shows the battle notices and the join/part messages (if you choose to have those on). All you can see are those along with what the OP's/Mods and Admins on the server say when they type it on the main chat area of the server. Also, it'd be neat if the OP's/Mods, and Admins, ah hell lets just call them "Server protection" for now, can have red colored names that stand out from the blue names and of course your username that is green while being on Shoddy Battle 2.
  • 3) This option can also come in handy if SB2 chooses to make the battle notices in click form, to be able to simply left click on them and view them or double-click on them and the battle window would pop-up (unless it's a privatized non-ladder match that people can click to tick a box in the little window with the clauses before a non-ladder match against another player.) Also having privatized matches will be asked for, (which already have in recent pages) but it's only necessary to have an option to privatize non-ladder matches, so that way anyone can watch the ladder matches.
Privatizing matches would only be used for, and again saying this, non-ladder matches, because most players like to test their teams and they hate people going into the battle and watching it, as I guess it makes some players nervous or paranoid that they're stealing their battle ideas. Also about stealing and paranoia reasons, if you're testing a team out for a tournament and you don't want people snooping in on your battle with a different account name (paranoia starts here) then I'm sure plenty of users would love total privacy to test out their team between him/herself and the persons opponent.
Also, most test teams aren't really even played on the ladder, as they're all against someone else on a non-ladder match. Don't get me wrong, people do test their teams on the ladder, but most people who want quick and straight results usually battle a friend off these forums on SB1 (2) and they discuss the teams weak points/advantages during the battle, this gives away hints and clues if other people are watching in on the battle. If you wish for someone to view the private battle then maybe simply type a / sequence in on the battle chat window or even on the main server chat area? Perhaps something like: "/viewbattle [enter username here]". Then again, I think that would only work if you typed it in the battle window itself, because if you'd do such a thing on the main server, you'd have to include which battle for the person to join, so scratch the main server one, it'd be easier if you added them through the battle window.
But other than ranting on about privatizing options, let me go back to my main topic, a click option to not view the chat text on the main server where everyone types. I'd like a way of having to not view what other members talk about on the server when it's completely off-topic or to just not see it because you just don't want to see it and only care to see the battle notices, who joins/leaves/gets kicked/banned out and being able to see what the "Server protectors" say on the server. If something like this could be added or even be acceptable, and that you guys are not Genies and can just get your magic lamps rubbed and make things suddenly happen, then it'd be great to see such an option/add-on to SB2. I'd have a face just like his, :justin2: (lol sorry if this is one of the site Admins/Owners of Smogon, only person I know on that list of face smilies is Jumpman16 :jump: or so I think it's him...).

Bearzly, read my post a few ones up from that, I thought that adding a type chart for our team to the team builder would be a decent Idea.

This is looking awesome, I can't wait. Thanks for all the work guys.

Would it be possible to create a two-player doubles simulation? Essentially, you could pair up with another player and challenge other pairs - I think that this metagame will spark a new type of thought process.

This, ever since I got Platinum and found out that I can team up with a friend for the Battle Tower, I've wanted to do it. I'd love to be able to do this on Shoddy 2.

It needs a better way of handling the moves. When changing around movesets it can be annoying to scroll past the move you want to uncheck another move first. Either add the ability to check more than four moves (but have it unable to be saved) or change it in general.

is it possible to make it so you have something other than a check list for the moves? I always get confused when the moves are in different locations on the list and sometimes end up with only three moves. Also there seems to be a glitch. If you switch to a different program while picking move you can only pick 3 moves. It resets only when you change to a different pokemon and then change back.

Why do people go "will you fix bug x" in a complete code rewrite?

I've encountered the glitch before (only picking 3 moves) but it's not caused by switching pokemon at all. Uncheck every move on the pokemon, save the team, reopen it, and it's fixed.

It would be awesome (for me) if I don't see too many similarities (comparing Shoddy 1 & 2) in terms of interface/design. To be fresh, pointless thought.

Although I must say these:

I "dislike" hovering-info.
I "dislike" scroll-down-till-you-see-it.
I "dislike" screenS.
I "dislike" "pop-up".

Lol, elaborating is not one of my skills. I can try but, umm so please delete this if things aren't appropriate.

This idea came up out of no where... How bout usage statistics pokemon/ moves/ items that update after every battle that has occured?

Your over complicating things. You don't have to close the team to fix things. You just have to change to a different pokemon and then change back. However trivial it maybe it can be quite annoying, and my main point to the post was asking about doing away with the check list, not about bug fixes.

I don't know if this was suggested already or not, but it would be great if the text that narrates the battle like "Pikachu used Thunderbolt" didn't just show up in a big block for the whole turn. It would be nice if this text appeared a little slower and action by action like "Pikachu used Thunderbolt" *pause* "It is raining" instead of getting a block all at once.

I don't think that will go through. Maybe the text will be spaced better but pausing for dramatic effect would slow down games.

Most likely there will not be pauses. However, you will be able to set an arbitrary style for the log, and in general it will be colour-coded, making it easy to extract the relevant information with a glance.

Can you make less pop-ups? Every time something new happens (ie having a battle request rejected) a new pop-up opens. Maybe just save the pop-ups for important things. Also, can you make it alert the player when a battle opens. Sometimes if i'm waiting for a while on the ladder (especially ubers :/) i'll open another window, only to come back to find out that i was put into a match and my time ran out. Maybe like an alert or a small pop-up (this would be one of those important things).
