Shoddy Battle 2 (the future of Shoddy Battle)

Can you guys add a search function onto the userlist? It would make it a ton easier for mods to ban/unban. Also, grouping alts with the most used account would be a very nice feature to have on the userlist to, or at least make the IP searchable.

Can you guys make an insert team function by just importing the text that would make the team. This would be so much easier for quickly transferring teams, especially from the RMT forum.

That's not a bad idea. If that's not part of the program, it seems like it would be really easy to make a ShoddyBattle XML file generator. Hell, I could make a script to do that this weekend, moths before Shoddy Battle 2 launches.

Now I wanna do that. Stop giving me ideas ._.

Quick suggestions
  • Better graphics (moving sprites perhaps?)
  • Win-Loss somewhere (OU, UU, Ubers, Suspect wins and losses combined - true skill)
  • Search Bar for username
  • Easier Team Building
  • When highlighting a pokemon and putting a letter in, why not make the list alphabetical a-z, and not by region to browse easier instead of scrolling on a specific region for the specific pokemon?

This is a decidedly naive notion of "true skill" and I think showing a win-loss record is a bad idea, because it suggests that there is something meaningful to the ratio; there isn't. It would be like showing the ratio of enemy pokemon fainted to your pokemon fainted; it means nothing.

Accepting Random Battle challenges works incorrectly if one doesn't have a default team set. Please fix this.
Please do not post things to "fix". It is not useful. This is a rewrite.

Well, after picking up YGO WC 2008 after a long while(and playing on wifi) I realized there was kinda like a "test duel" thing, in which your ranking didnt change, no matter what the result of the duel was, could you include something as this? That way we could test new teams withou the risk of screwing up our punctuation

Actually, I think a win-loss record would be useful for when you're testing a new team and/or changes to your previous team. It's a pseudo-measure of how good your team is or how good the changes you've made are.

Group PM would be nice. It'd be great for MTs and to not clog the main chat with randbats between 3+ people.

YES! Double Battles FTW!? Finally, a new metagame will unfold! Thanks for spending the time to build SB2 Colin.

I do have one suggestion. It's smart to cap battles with a time limit, but I feel that five minutes is too long. Sometimes connections go haywire or trainers forget to move, so instead of giving 300 seconds (which is more than enough time to hit the bathroom and grab a snack while your opponent is left drumming his fingers on the desktop waiting for your turn) reduce that to a renewable 60 seconds each turn. Wifi PBR does something like that. Every turn both opponents get a fresh one minute to do their business and if time runs out, a command is randomly chosen for them. I hate waiting fruitlessly for an opponent that is obviously not going to budge. With that system, opponents are pushed to get on with it and not abandoned the match.

Wouldn't one thing be to be able to turn off Advertising (Such as Link's to other websites like youtube.) Because once in a while I'll wanna check my rating and I accidentally click some link someone posted and Internet Explorer freezes up everything I do. Or atleast be able to redirect links to Fire fox or whichever one is open at that moment.

And like other people have said, put an ignore feature on, and make some battles private with a pass word or something to keep people out from what you don't want them to see.

And having a feature where you can see what your stats are in the battle so you can go do some damage calculations instead of wasting 30 seconds just to go open your team and Look at Tyranitar or so and so's stats.

This is kind of a less wanted feature, but would it be possible to put in how many OU you have and find someone with the same ammount of OU as you have? Other then that would give away some of your team knowing you have 5 OU and they have 5 OU.

Also putting a no pc so no one will pc you "wanna battle?" or something like that.

That's all I really have to say about Shoddy 2.

Something I just realized but is very important, is that in SB2 the correct Arceus sprite should be used. Currently it just says that Arceus changes its type, but it doesn't actually change the sprite, it still keeps the Normal sprite.

Will you be able to change the default folder for saving logs into. That would be really nice.

If you cant, could you make it save into my documents/shoddylogs by default or something other than my documents.

Have a nice day.

What features would you like to see in Shoddy Battle 2?

My biggest beef is with the battle start/complete messages. My ideal vision for such a feature would be to have one space entirely for chat between members and another separate scrolling log with battle starts and completions. This allows you to spectate battles you enjoy while also being able to hold an SU or other server conversation that isn't punctuated by a flood of battle starts/completions.

What did you like most about Shoddy Battle 1 and would like to remain in Shoddy Battle 2?

The Team Builder as a whole was very solid. I do however wish for Legendaries that you could toggle down form a list of Natures and IV combinations that are legal instead of screwing around until you get lucky or trying to decipher the legendary creation method calculations.

a seperated line for chat at the bottom ofthe window would be nice, more details on your inactive pokemon are appeciated, also small preview sprites in swap menu like in real game would be cool .)

Oh another thing that may have been mentioned already is sometimes it would be useful to forfeit matches without closing the battle window.

Have a nice day.

I'm mostly intrigued with the Box System to store and take out your pokemon; its version in Shoddy 1 was rather... shoddy. It was laggy and annoying to use (I understand the lagginess was in part due to java, but honestly, the number of confirmation windows and switches made it a lot worse.) I have a couple suggestions to make the whole team creator more efficient using the box system.
Most importantly, I think a "Pokemon Creator" should be seperated from the Team Creator to make teams more easily. You would open the Pokemon Creator, and start building your pokemon - but because of the omission of the 6 different pokemon, it would be less laggy and there would be more room for other stuff. First, the EV's could be more user friendly by adding a "Max" box to each stat - it would lump the max number of remaining (or possible) EV's into the stat to avoid unnecessary addition or subtraction. Say you wanted a max att/speed with 4 hp - just click the attack, speed, and hp boxes in that order. If you wanted a 252 in one stat with various values for a few others - max out the first stat, type in one, then max out the final stat.
As for moves, (and I don't know if this is possible,) it would cut down on time slightly if STAB moves were automatically made at the top, and non-stab moves alphabetically afterwards. Pretty simple idea, but again, I've no idea if it's possible.
The same thing could be done for items, but the top couple items used (lefties, etc) could be lumped at the top for easier access.
A seperate tab could also be added; one that specifies the use of the pokemon. This would be a simple way to help organize for team building later; just include several options like Sweeper, Tank, etc. After you've finished your pokemon, and it does a scan to see if it's legal, it could be put into the box automatically for use in team builder, and if it's given a tag like Sweeper or Tank, it would automatically go into one of the boxes that has those names. This would make it far easier to visualize a team; you've got your sweepers in your sweeper box, tanks in your tank box, etc. Once you've saved a few pokemon, you could exit to the Team Builder and simply pull them out in the order you need from the boxes. The current box system (and team builder in general) has a lot of unnecessary button confirmations - since java has been known to be laggy, any attempts to compress or eliminate extra windows or messages would maximize efficiency. After you've pulled your 6 pokemon, you could possibly request a team analysis - a function that would tell you your overall team weaknesses + resistances (4 weak to ground, 2 weak to electric, etc.) Other helpful things that could assist in making efficient teams without repeatedly switching pokemon to see their weaknesses would also be helpful.
In the team builder, it would list your 6 pokemon with their moves (and function, if applicable) and be far less cramped. If you see an obvious error with a pokemon (which is a distinct possibility) opening pokemon builder again would be laggy and annoying; a possible "quick edit" button that could only change moves or items might be necessary.

I know this is a meaty post, but I figure if some of it is considered, it would increase efficiency and possibly cut down on lag, while decreasing team builder time over a period.

Sorry for repeats.

For more like traditional battles, set an "All selections final" clause. Any switches or moves you choose cannot be changed. Removes the fact that anyone can make decisions on moves based on how fast you make selections.

And make Random battles actaully playable for more than 50% of your opponents. Also fix the clauses that can be selected with it.

Allow us to set the base of Hidden Power ourselves so we don't have to look up any spreads.

Just a few ideas I have; some are things I've done in previous incarnations of my Shoddy Battle client mod, others are things that could give Shoddy Battle 2 a little more "flair" over its "big brother" Shoddy Battle 1:

- Show damage category (physical/special/status) in the team builder (or its replacement), please.
- The ability to sort moves by any of the eight categories (Enabled, Name, Origin, Type, the aforementioned Damage Category, PP, Base Power, Accuracy) in either forward or reverse order.
- A sort of "Stadium Mode," where you can see what species your opponent has and then select which Pokémon you want to lead with, as in the Stadium games (hence the name).
- The ability to make a "trainer" for your teams like in Pokemon Battle Revolution; this is largely unnecessary, but could add a little more "flavor" to Shoddy Battle 2.

Yeah, I'll edit this post if I come up with another idea by Page 11. (Also, just because you disagree with my ideas does not necessarily mean you can flame me for posting them.)
