How Did You Get Interested in Anime?

Again, they do not need it. I am certain of that; anything they done has become more viable, not less. It is not childish entitlement - consumers have a right to demand shit be the best it can be. Furthermore, it is not childish because my response is not to throw a fit and whine (I just hope to convince a few people to turn away from a site for making a terrible choice, I do not expect any actual boycott to occur); my response is to go back to doing what I was doing before giving something legal a chance since it made nice promises, which is to pirate. I am no goddamn leech; I seed my anime and music a whole fucking hell of a lot :)

ferron, let me get this straight; you do not understand still that I am not pirating for any of those reasons? You must not be very good at being indignant if this happens all the time! I pirate because it is the most sensible decision no matter what - even without any of my other reasons, it is still easier to have something when you want it and without the effort of buying in real life or even online. Furthermore, one is not left with buyer's remorse when something is awful. All of my arguments are just for reasons others should pirate as conditions stand now. None of it has anything to do with me at all.

you do not have rights as a consumer, because you are not a consumer but are rather watching something FOR FREE. do you not understand the difference?

also, if watching it online without buying it, you still don't have buyers' remorse.

What makes you so certain that they don't need money to keep streaming video? It's childish entitlement because you think that the world revolves around you. Server, bandwidth, and licensing costs apparently don't exist in your little dream land. And I don't see your point about seeding. A leech that sucks the blood out of the host and passes it to another leech is still a leech.

I am a consumer - they are providing a product for consumption, "free" or not. Any business is beholden to those who use their services, whatever the condition. They obviously want people using the site for free, so I do not see what point you think you have ferron :)

Well Firestorm, you do not have to worry about it, because no childish entitlement will come to pass - I will continue to pirate until a perfectly free service provides anime as quickly as fansubbers for download, and not streaming, since downloading is inherently better than streaming (again, being able to have it when you want with no hiccups like streaming difficulties is superior).

Is it even "pirating" to download show licensed in japan? I'm not saying I condone it or anything as I prefer to make sure my favorite animes are getting their due dollars. I'm just asking out of curiosity.

you have no rights to the product, which is why its being said that its a childish sense of entitlement. you think you have the right to something that someone else made, just because you want it? get over yourself, get a job and get a life, once that is all done you may join the rest of society.

CK, yes you are a consumer. However, what you're saying is you want 100% quality while the website loses money. That's not how the world works. And yes I read the NHL thread. You believe all humans are selfish as you are. Your childish entitlement won't end as you say, you will stay a child forever.

And personally I like DivX streaming supported by ads over downloading. My connection is good enough to support it so I like the instant nature of it.

Yes, it is. Nobody will care though.

CK, no one cares. the business world goes on without you. Trust me your complaints are within a sea of loud cheers. Crunchy roll is ingenious, and they, as a company, have the right to do whatever makes them the most money. You, as a freeloading non-paying viewer, have no right. You think you could just call your local cable and complain because these decided to charge you more for premium channels? Or more accurately complain to your mother who pays for the cable bills about not having that premium channel?

i would like to apologize to everyone that would have posted in this thread, but then didn't because a few of us derailed/usurped/annexed this thread.

Crunchyroll is such a farce, it got popular by using fansubbed videos and asking for "donations" if you wanted to watch them in decent quality (when these could be torrented anyway). I only use it to watch Galaxy Express 999 every now and then, and I need to proxy a US IP to do it : (

Kurokami is pretty bad, read the manwha instead.

yeah...less than 1/4 their content is legal, but at least that better than many sites where none of it is legal.

also, i want to thank you for actually being intelligent enough to note that japanese and korean comics have different name (you wouldn't believe how many people don't seem to notice or care). honestly, if i was gonna recommend a manhwa, then it would be veritas, but that doesn't have an animated series to show. (btw, i've seen it spelled both manhwa and manwha, any idea which is correct?)

Not many One Piece fans here. Also people should start reading sports manga. I'm talking about Slam Dunk and Prince of Tennis here.

so I like the instant nature of it

One can download any popular series on megaupload. I "only" have a 5 mbps connection and it takes about 3 minutes for a 480p episode, 5-6 minutes for a 720p episode, and I then have exact control over skipping introductions/outroductions to the extent I want, as well as superior controls in dealing with opening and closing or going on to the next thing (if for some reason I miss a week). On a 20 mbps connection, I assume I would get it even faster...just press download when I stand up to put something in the microwave like a pizza, come back and turn off my music and it is probably already done. ^___^

Does Hulu have entire episodes in a single video, or do they break it up into segments like Youtube does?

I'm pretty sure they have entire episodes with those stupid online commercial breaks. My sister watches stuff on Hulu all the time and never seems to need to touch the mouse to get to another part of the episode. I'm not 100% sure about the commercial breaks, but almost every other website that has online episodes has them (damn you tbs.com!!)

Hmm, that's pretty interesting. I wouldn't mind commercial breaks (especially if you can just fast-forward through them), I just hate having to search through hundreds of videos several times just to finish a single episode. Perhaps I'll check out Hulu once I get my laptop back.

By the way, has anyone else ever used Veoh.com? I watched Hajime no Ippo and that rock-paper-scissors anime I mentioned on that site, it has free, full episode videos there as well. Or used to, since I haven't been there for a while. I have no idea how it compares to other sites such as Hulu or Crunchyroll or others, either, but it seemed fine to me. No full-screen commercials (or any at all for that matter) too, for those like CK who hate them.

The commercial breaks are forced (there are usually 3 in a one-minute episode) and you can't skip them, though nothing's stopping you from just doing something on another application at the same time instead of watching. It's usually somewhere between 45 and 90 seconds of commercials for one episode, so it's very mildly annoying but still much less than you'd have to deal with if you were watching stuff on TV and overall not a big deal.

Veoh actually has instituted forced commercials now too beyond just the ones when you start up a new video, unfortunately, but oh well.

Fishin, from that list, I've also watched Suzuka, and xxxHolic. Problems with both series: Suzuka is subscribes to the harem qualification wayyyy to much, and ends up developing its characters terribly. Akitsuki, the guy the plot mainly revolves around, is so static and childish pretty much to the end of the series that it's impossible to like him. Also, it's pretty cheesy in the way a lot of the relationships are built.
Suzuka wasn't that great but of all the flaws it had, being a generic harem wasn't one of them - the main character had a grand total of two serious love interests throughout the show, and both of them were actual serious interests, not like all the random girls hanging around a usual harem who never progress in a relationship at all. The characters were the bane of the show though. The protagonist was pathetic, blockheaded, and never actually improved, Suzuka had constant PMS and mood swings, and the second girl was mostly annoying too. That wasn't to say the show was completely without worth, but it's hard to like a romance when you hate all of the characters. I haven't seen xxxHolic so I can't comment on that.

Actually, the main reason I ditched the Kurokami anime was because the main character was so bad. I can tolerate a certain amount of stupidity, but standing there, letting the girl who saved your life just a couple hours ago get unceromoniously beaten to death by your monster in disguise teacher and instead of doing anything to help, just asking "Uh...professor, is this okay?" is crossing the line.

I think the first Anime I ever watched was Sailor Moon, though mind you I didn't know it was "Anime," I merely thought of it as a cool cartoon.. I used to watch it every day before school (Well, actually DURING, since it came on when school started, and when it was over I would run around back and hop the fence, haha) when I was in second grade. Thank god my parents never babysat me for "get up for school" time.

Of course, like most others, I saw things like Kenshin and such on Toonami, but I really didn't know what Anime WAS until one day my Music teacher in.. 6th or 7th grade was like "Alright, were going down to the Auditorium today, going to take a break from actual music and sigging for 2 or 3 days. There's an interesting movie I want you guys to see."

He elaborated more. He said that it looks like a well-polished versions of the cartoons that we in America watch, but it wasn't a cartoon. It was something called Anime. And he went on for about 5-10 more minutes with explinations, bringing up shows that we have most likely seen that we did not think were Anime (of course he listed the Toonami block and Sailor Moon, lmao..). Then, movie time. "Pay very close attention to the animation, and listen to how the MUSIC changes depending on how the situation comes up." Well he WAS a music teacher.. Okay, now that everybody is filled with suspense, here was the movie:

Suspense!

Princess Mononoke. :pimp:

Perhaps the most beautiful thing I have ever seen on a TV (or projector) in my entire life. Even to this day.

Needless to say, I started to religiously watch every Anime I could find on TV, even dissing friends with the "I'm doing something" routine so I could watch all these shows. Then more popped up... One Piece, Naruto, etc etc, I don't need to explain, everybody knows what all came up in America. Of course, I ended up losing Cable, and never got to see Naruto or anything ever again, but a few months ago, my grandma started living here and got the Comcast Triple Play for us, so I have High-speed interw3bz :O

It didn't occur to me until roughly a month or 2 ago to watch anime on youtube and other sites. I first watched Gundam SEED (and Destiny) because I got cut off TWICE trying to watch that show. Now I am working on Naruto, up to nearly episode 190. I still have to do Shippuden. :O

I wonder is Sakura will ever be pwnage.. *waits*

How the hell are you on episode 190 and not hate Naruto. That's 55 episodes of unbearable filler. A full year's worth. Not only that, you still have 30 to go. Do yourself a favour and start Shippuden now.

Oh and I find it interesting that your music teacher showed you Princess Mononoke. My teacher for a media class last semester got us to play around with another Miyazaki film, Nausicaa, to get us accustomed to sound design in video.

maybe vash meant chapter 190? the manga is no where near as annoying or fillerific as the anime.

He said episode. And obviously the comic that a cartoon is based on is going to be less filler filled =P I switched from watching Naruto to reading it sometime during Shippuden. I skipped most of the filler. Couldn't stand it. Started Shippuden and it was sooooo badly paced I couldn't stand it.
